I was just wondering if anyone would care to recommend a server, or does that not really matter much anymore?
i want to play! let's get a server and get some ppl to join with us!
The "semi-official" server for the Freedom Reborn community is, of course, Freedom (well, they didn't have a server named Reborn...), though many of us have characters on other servers, as well.
I personally have Hero toons on Freedom, Virtue, Guardian, and Liberty. (Not gonna count Infinity at this time.) I've got one villain on Freedom and I think I have other villains on Pinnacle and Triumph, but I don't play those unless I feel especially hostile.
I probably play most on Virtue and Guardian. Look me up! (Global Chat is in my sig.)
i'm on right now. firebearded in freedom.
When I logged in tonight, I thought Freedom would be it. So I will start there.
See you all soon.
what is your global?
For a list of everyone's Global handles go to this thread ---> Global Chat Listing. (http://freedomreborn.net/archive/index.php?topic=41864.0)
While there, feel free to post your global as well.
Freedom is the default for us morons. There's colonies of peeps on Virtue and Champion.
Virtue is more or less the unofficial roleplaying server. However, I have alts on there (all under lvl 10, because I rarely feel like logging on there) and hardly rp as any of them.
Most of my toons are on Freedom, ranging in level from 6-35. I also have a L20 hero on Virtue. I find the PUGs to be generally more solid on Virtue.
PUG's?
PUG = Pick up group. Random teaming. Though I've been finding its better to have builds that can solo, since a good group is hard to find and most people in FR are out of my level range, though sometimes I am pleasantly surprised. But yeah, I find the PUGs on Virtue to generally be of better quality. I don't know if its a truism, but it seems to work out that way.
Ah. Every time I've ended up in a PUG on Freedom, I've been gakked because the tankers run off away from the group, the defenders try to be blsters and end up drawing major aggro, and the scrappers run around willy-nilly...
I never ever grab Tankers when forming a pug myself unless the mission either really needs one (or two) or I know the Tanker by either having worked with them before or by reputation. Because I've had more than a few groups that failed due to the Tanker screwing things up (ie, herding when we're either not ready for it or don't have the firepower and healing to deal with a herd).
Some of the best teams I've ever had didn't even have a Tanker in them. I once had a team that had 4 Controllers, a Scrapper, 2 Blasters (I was one of the 2) and a Warshade in it, with a Defender and another Scrapper replacing one of the Controllers and the Warshade at one point, and it was one of the best PUGs I ever had. We were doing missions on the two highest difficulties and never even came close to a group wipe.
Also had a PUG one time that did Frostfire with the mobs orange and red to everyone. I was running a Martial Arts\Dark Armor Scrapper, and the team was so effective that I dropped my toggles at one point because we weren't taking enough dmg for me to really need them (I did put them back up for the final room, just in case). We completed the entire mission - and I mean cleared the entire building - with NO defeats. In fact, it was the only time I've done FF without at least one team wipe or near wipe.
So it is possible to get good PUGs. Its just the luck of the draw.
One piece of advice I'll give: form your own PUGs if you can, if you want to get your missions done and want to control the make-up of the team. If you join a PUG, more often than not you'll end up doing the leader's missions.
Another piece of advice: If the team leader's name is made up of alternating capital and lower case letters, just say no. Not all people who spell their characters that name are bad, but I've grouped with plenty of them and the majority have been idiots, so its best to be safe instead of sorry.
Global? My login is PWon1...I have Devil Rae, a hero; Ara (Adam-Ra) and Obelisque for villains -- all on freedom...just learning the keyboard (yuch...mouseless) controls and figuring out the camera angling and zoom. I will likely log on a lot on Saturday and Sunday, as I have both nights off (How rare!) :D as well as only 1 month of game time currently. Thanks to all for the tips so far. Devil Rae is a cold blaster (closest to water). I honestly don't know what I'm doing yet, but feel free to drop in and say hi. Will probably add a couple Victors, Wikkens, or even a Peerless on the hero side.
I got the combo CoH/ CoV pack, and I must say that instructions on how to play are not really there at all. I will probably check the boards for help.
One other question: How rude is it considered to jump in and help a fellow hero who is vastly outnumbered? Just on the street thugs and such.
Note: I met a Scarlet Recluse on the villain side (twice), but he didn't know Redback Death. What a shame for him.
I will try to drop in to Reborn more often, but I work nights so it's hard to catch any1.
i'm usually on around 8 am till noon most days. my global is firebearded.

Global?
Your global handle is a way other players can communicate with you, regardless of which server you're on or character you're playing. It will be the name of the first character you created in the game with a "@" in front of it (for example, if your first character was named Heroman, your handle would be @Heroman). You can change your handle once, and only once.

Definitely considered rude- you're taking experience and kills from the other player. Usually considered okay if the other player is doing really badly health-wise (the amount of health the character has left is more important for determining if they need help than the number of opponents they're facing), but unless they're really about to be killed, it's always a good idea to ask if they need help before jumping in (in fact, asking if someone needs help is a really good way to make friends iin the game). Of course, if they ask you for help, feel free to jump in. Also, there are cases where it's usually okay- fighting giant monsters, for example. It's also usually considered okay to help in ways that don't actually damage the opponents- heals, buffs, etc.
What a crap deal then...I'm stuck with @ I DUNE I for a global...don't ask. Oops...just read the rest of your post. Guess I will change my global then.
Otherwise...new char Victor the Wiccan is in Galaxy City. I will post a pic in the proper thread...thanks all.
Global is @Peerless1, and that is the name of my new hero (- the @, of course). Off to bed...work in 4 hours.
I will second GMs generalization about team leaders with goofy spellings. I also get nervous about teams that have too high a concentration of said names.
My other guideline for PUGs is to put something to the effect of "Grav/Kin. NO blind invites accepted. Ever!" in my team comment field. And then stick to it. I find it greatly improves the general level of leader. If they take the time to send me a tell and respond to my questions I find I have decent luck with the group. It's not a perfect system, but it seems to work pretty well.
