Post by: Outcast on September 10, 2007, 02:03:33 AM
Hey guys.  :) I want to learn more about Photoshop and be familiar with all its tools, techniques, tricks and just maximize everything its capable of doing. Can you recommend some sites that offers a good tutorials for free? Or if you can share some of your expertise here, so much the better. Thanks in advance. ^_^ I think a lot of newbies here would also be interested in this.

Maybe this should be in the skinning or artists forums?

I may move it unless there is a compelling reason to keep it in the General forum.

There are a number of online resources you can use in a pinch. Dozens really, although none that are as in-depth as the officially-licensed printed guides and instructional books you can buy. Anyway, some fairly basic but readily informative Photoshop tutorials are available at the following sites:

http://www.heathrowe.com/tutorials.asp
http://www.vecpix.com/tutorials/photoshop/
http://www.sketchpad.net/photoshp.htm
http://photoshoptechniques.com/forum/archive/index.php/

A good resource is Adobe Photoshop 7.0 Classroom (http://www.amazon.com/Adobe-Photoshop-7-0-Classroom-Book/dp/0321115627), which is used by many graphics classes as a companion textbook (most any decent public library should have a copy). It's fairly concise and covers all the basics, and I think there's an edition for Photoshop CS as well. Of course, nothing beats learning by doing, and for that, you'll need to put in hours of practice.

Does anyone have the link to Midnight's video tutorial that addresses some elementary skinning techniques using Photoshop?  It might be the most directly relevant video tutorial you can find about FF skinning, Outcast.

EDIT: I found Midnight's video tutorial on my hard drive.  I plan to PM him about the possibility of re-hosting it, unless the original host still exists.

Thanks to Midnight for making this video tutorial and for allowing Melmoth Hall to host it. :)
