Just when you think that Bendis can't get any more lame, unoriginal, and derivative, he always proves that there really is no start to his talents.

Last I knew, the Carnage symbiote was torn in two and left without a host in orbit. How the smeg did it end up on Janet?

Nice cover art! I think it's interesting to see Carnage or his symbiote comeback. Especially since the Sentry was the one thought to have killed Carnage before.

Wonder which girl the symbiote is using though. ^_^

EDIT: Is it really the Wasp? Janet?

The costume design running down the torso matches Wasp's current costume, and we're seeing significant size change right there - makes sense.

Didn't they just do a story where Janet turned into Ultron or something?  Does Bendis have it in for her or what?

They should have stuck with this version of the symbiote:

the rumours flying around is that after carnage was ripped in two( daft move) he rained back to earth and this invasion is parts of him

roughly its the story currently happening in ghost rider only with carnage instead of the devil

i havent read the latest 2 issues of Ghost Rider,
Is the storyline actually about the Devil? or was it Carnage?  your comment mystified me.

I, um... Huh?

Yeesh. Marvel has such a higgledy-piggledy* messed-up continuity. Every writer wants to do wild things with the wild characters, and it just doesn't work half the time. Remember when Carnage attached himself to the Silver Surfer? The Silver Surfer?

The symbiote idea was great back when Venom was evil and the perfect antithesis of Spider-Man. Then he became an unevenly written anti-hero, and Carnage came along, and then all those other symbiotes... "Planet of the Symbiotes", anyone?

Hrm. I want to like the irrepressible evil of the symbiotes, but they've been overdone. Does Marvel even have good villains anymore? Iron Man being a fascist doesn't really cut it.

It's plausible, though, that Carnage could have survived Sentry's ripping him apart. The very nature of the symbiotes makes them very resilient, especially in outer space. Their nature is to split and replicate, or at least be cleaved in half and regenerate like basic worms, so I wouldn't rule out Carnage coming back no matter how much he's put through. They need hosts to thrive, but they can live without them if they must.

But I haven't read any Avengers comics in a long, long time (since New Avengers #6, I believe). I'm interested in this wacky Carnage plot, but, as I always say, $2.99 is too crazy a price to pay for too little reward.

*I originally had "gobbledy-g**k" in there, but the censor misinterpreted it as a "racial epithet." Oops!

ok, thought so.   i just didn't want to have a great storyline ruined by... well... this.
I understand Bendis wants Mighty Avengers to be this super fun, nostalgia influenced rocket ride,  but reallytheres sooo many other characters and plot devices to be used.  As TUE mentioned, the multiple baddie/world over run is being used successfully in Ghost Rider, and in Annihilation Conquest we've already got the amoebic take-control-of others scary monster in the form of the Phalanx.

Bendis, want some ideas from the past to help make Mighty Avengers more fun? THE MASTERS OF EVIL!
When was the last time there was a half-decent supervillain group for the Avengers to fight?

Invaded by symbiotes? Didn't Carnage suck enough? Didn't they screw up Venom enough? Doesn't Marvel ever think before they...?

Well, there's your answer I guess.

And that cover makes sense...  because Carnage could surely have a evenly matched fight... with Iron Man... and Sentry?

I don't get it.  :(

Tony Starks, Skrulls, Symbiotes, oh my!

Translated: This will be a suckfest. I used to like where Marvel is going but it seems to over-the-top and let's see how much we can rehash and reshape lame old ideas and make them fun. Don't get me wrong, I loved the idea of the Skrull Invasion but it dragging so slowly and no one else in the whole damn Marvel Universe realize they are being invaded? No one!?

This reminds me. I need to pick up the new JSA.

Yannow. Cause it has good villains.

seriously i do think marvel went over board with the symbiotes, but i do think the carnage character could have worked. just no writer had the guts or more importantly the environment for him. i mean right from the get go he was a serial killer, you cant expect him to not be watered down in some of his appearances

i still think you stick carnage in a max series with a decent writer and it could work

Venom - Cool.

Carnage - Decent...

Hybrid, Phage, Lasher, Riot...or whatever they're called...  - UGH!  UGH, UGH, UGH.

Two was enough.  Hell, if it wasn't for all the crap that has happened with the symbiotes over the years, I probably wouldn't have minded bits of carnage reigning down from outer space and bonding with people...but with Marvel's over-use of the symbiotes, this is just going to blow.

So the next Bendis story will bring back "The Clone Wars"? Oh wait he already did that in Ultimate Spider-Man. What are the chances he would do that again in 616? Sometimes I like Bendis other times I don't, and I'm not fond of his revival of the thought bubble. Personally I was glad that died.

Ooh, where was that image, thanoson? Are there others too?

I don't care much for the story, but the images are still fun to look at.

Why is Marvel doing this "multiple major event thing" so much lately?  We've had and currently have the House of M/M-Event,Decimation/Annihilation/Civil War/The Initiative/World War Hulk/Skrull invasion/X-Extinction or whatever-it's-called/now a Symbiote invasion...Whew!  Did I miss any?  All these recent events were/are right on each other's heels and even stumbling over/bleeding into each other.

It's like Quesada, Bendis, Millar and co. are throwing out everything before they burn though whatever creativity they may have left in them.  Big events used to be put out every once in a while (as they should be), not for almost two/three years straight.

It's just too much...And it's a strain on folks wallets (not mine, since I've not bought much Marvel in 10 years and I avoid big events like the plague).

It's an add in either the latest Hulk or Wolverine.

You're right Dana.

Actually it seems as though big events are status quo at marvel.  especially if you read any of the Queseda interviews or Joe Fridays columns.
it seems as though he has a big event planned for every month well into november 2008.

not cool.

ohh for the love of god! :P

Disassemble them and then what? Create a New X-Men title? We already have one of those and it's darn good the way it is. All X-Men titles are fine the way they are at this moment why change that?

Here's a tip Marvel: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."
