Title: Installing skins and meshes trouble shooting
Post by: fetty_pet on August 31, 2007, 03:05:54 PM
So, I got a guide to installing skins and meshes (Thanks to the board members), and I haven't been able to get it to work, from what I gather, it should go:

Meshes go into:

C:\Program Files\Irrational Games\Freedom Force vs The 3rd Reich\Custom\Art\library\characters

Afterwards, you can put skins next to the folder it creates, titled "Standard".

So,

C:\Program Files\Irrational Games\Freedom Force vs The 3rd Reich\Custom\Art\library\characters/skins

Next to the "Standard" file. I've tried that and haven't gotten anything, any ideas what I could be doing wrong? I think the files I had been trying to install were created for  :ff:, do the ystill work for  :ffvstr:?

You're like 75% of the way there :o

1.
QuoteC:\Program Files\Irrational Games\Freedom Force vs The 3rd Reich\Custom\Art\library\characters

your meshes should all be placed, in individual folders, in your "characters" folder.  I.E.

C:\Program Files\Irrational Games\Freedom Force vs The 3rd Reich\Custom\Art\library\characters\superman_tf

where superman_tf is the folder containing the mesh you downloaded.  This folder must have character.nif and character.kf (or keyframes.kf) files or the mesh won't work.

Every mesh must have it's own "skins" folder.  Every "skin" folder must then have a "standard" folder with a skin in it.
IE.
C:\Program Files\Irrational Games\Freedom Force vs The 3rd Reich\Custom\Art\library\characters\superman_tf\skins\standard

Some do, most do not.  You can upgrade them using the Nif Converter from Alex's Freedom Fortress.  Just install it, open it navigate to the mesh you want to upgrade (it's pretty self explanatory)

Post back if you're still having problems.

You need a specific location of FFVTR.
Then at the characters folder you put the folder of the mesh.
For the skins you need to either paste the tga or dds files into the standard or another folder of different skins.
If it still does not work convert them with Lightning Man's Nif Converter Or Npi's Converter.
If you have trouble with pink skins convert them with dds converter.
And lastly ;).

Ok, still haven't gotten it to work, quick run down on what I'm doing:

1. I download the "Male_basic" from http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/Irrationalmeshes4/files/

2. I unzip it into C:/Doucuments and Settings/(Username)/Application Data/Irrational Games/Freedom Force vs the Third Reich/Custom/Art/Library/Characters

3. I move the files into a folder called "Carnage_tf".

4. I unzip a Carnage skin (Found here, http://members.cox.net/horton551/skin-carnage.html) and put it into C:/Doucuments and Settings/(Username)/Application Data/Irrational Games/Freedom Force vs the Third Reich/Custom/Art/Library/Characters/Carnage_tf/Skins

Is the skin designed only for FF? Sorry about this, I'm normally good with computers.  :(

Should be C:/Doucuments and Settings/(Username)/Application Data/Irrational Games/Freedom Force vs the Third Reich/Custom/Art/Library/Characters/Carnage_tf/Skins/standard (skin files go here)

First of all what is your FFVTR CUSTOM PATH?

C:/Doucuments and Settings/(My username)/Application Data/Irrational Games/Custom

I missed putting it into "Freedom Force vs the Third Reich"..... Fixing, checking to see if that was the problem.

You've written 'Doucuments' a few times. Is that a typo or a windows path problem?
