Title: Bioshock rave reviews
Post by: catwhowalksbyhimself on August 17, 2007, 08:00:38 AM
It should be known that Bioshock, which has gone gold and is awaiting release, is getting amazing reviews.  The lowest I've seen mentioned so far at the big sites is 95/100.  No you didn't misread that--it really is the lowest score I can find.  Most are 10/10 or 100/100.

This isn't my kind of game, mind you, but I'm glad that the folks at what used to be Irrational are making themselves proud.  Now we'll just see if anyone actually buys it.

From what I "heard" the pre-order sale out sold HALO 3 pre-order.  I have the limited edition for PC on pre-order.  I'm looking forward to this game.

I saw an interview with Ken in my newspaper. No word of FF but Bioshock sounds like a very indepth freeroam kinda game, so maybe they'll make one for superheroes after ;)

Worth hoping

I had heard the same as well, but it was later confirmed that it didn't even cause a dent compared to Halo 3's pre-order sales. I believe the Wall Street Journal said that Halo 3 has the biggest pre-order sales of all time so far for a video-game. Not that it really matters, I'm getting both.......I'm more then sure both will be amazing in their own separate ways even though they are in the same genre.

Very exciting time right now for 360 owners :)

This may be the second game in history I update my computer system to play.

(For the Curious, the first one was No One Lives Forever #2...)

Ive gotten to the point that I will not upgrade my computer for any single game.
I'll just make do until I have to upgrade the machine for practical reasons...

That being said.
The game does look pretty cool...

the game never caught my interest until now. If I ever get a 360, this one is definitely on my list to get.

I've been thinking that this game looks and sounds utterly amazing since it was that I first heard of it.  Alas though the requirements of this game are beyond my kenCPU, I simply don't have the processing power to handle it...

I got all the parts for my new computer last Tuesday. (unfortunately the company forgot to tell me my processor is out of stock, so that's coming on Tuesday). I'm hoping that my new baby will be able to play this little game so Irrational can have my £30 for a the FFF (freedom force fund ;) )

Apparently, sales of Bioshock has driven up Take Two's stock.

This bodes very well for T2 backing up anything the former Irrational Games feels like doing.

I hope they're able to do another Freedom Force game, or just another superhero game in general.

I doubt very much if they do another FF game.  Looks like a lot of love is going to the 360 instead of sharing it with the PC

Actually, they are saying that the PC version of Bioshock is actually better.  It does seem like that was their focus.

In other news, Bioshock is gathering criticism for advertising having true widescreen, while in reality, it just crops off the top and bottom of the screen. . .

They've just started advertising Bioshock on TV here in the UK, which makes it quite a big deal (most PC games get zero TV adverts).

I JUST got this game for my 360 and am now playing it. I'm not that far in, but I have to admit it's pretty good. "Rave review" worthy I'm not so sure yet, but I can already see where a lot of praise is due. It's definitely top notch.

This is also one of the creepier games I've played in a long time.

Given the fact that keyboard/mouse controls were implemented so poorly as to make the game (even patched to the hilt) unplayable, and all these months later, there is still no fix for this issue, I find the claim that "that was their focus" highly doubtful at best.

Yes, it's a great game, so I hear- It's a shame I'm gonna have to shell out an EXTRA $30 for a 360 joystick to enjoy it properly.

Umm......I've got the PC version, and I haven't had any trouble with the keyboard and mouse controls.  I just wanted to pop in here and say that I got this game for Christmas, but haven't been able to play it until relatively recently because I had to upgrade my PC.  It's fantastic!  A wonderfully atmospheric game with an interesting story and good gameplay.

Then you're lucky. There's a 50+ page forum thread on how poorly mouse sensitivity was handled.  Can I ask what type of mouse you use and what your .ini settings are?

I'm using a logitech optical, but I'm afraid I don't know what .ini settings are.  Perhaps I'm just not terribly picky.  ^_^
