Title: Requesting a few TJ meshes
Post by: NomadX on August 08, 2007, 11:52:24 PM
Looking for TJ's Ghostbusters, Stay Puft, and Spy vs. Spy, non-converted. I kind of wish I nabbed these before FFunderground disappeared but it doesn't hurt to ask :D Thanks for any help.

Can I second that request + throw in one of my own ... GunWitch?

Does anyone have a complete list of TJ's meshes? Can we put them in a yahoo group, ala Ink and Fusion?

Following a tip on another thread, I tried to call up the missing TexasJack2 Yahoo Group on Webarchive....but I'm not a member, so I could not access the files!

I believe Yahoo uses a dynamic sign-in system, so it may not be possible to "join" or "sign-in" to his group through the main page.  It may be possible, however, to get his work through direct link (assuming somebody has the direct link!)

At any rate, here's the sign in page on Web Archive:

http://web.archive.org/web/20031128183147/http://groups.yahoo.com/group/TexasJack2/ (http://web.archive.org/web/20031128183147/http://groups.yahoo.com/group/TexasJack2/)

If anybody knows a way to get in, please share with the community.

GG -- Shucks! :banghead:

Ghostbusters (by C6) are available on Alex's Freedom Fortress:

http://www.alexff.com/stuffC6-DC.php (http://www.alexff.com/stuffC6-DC.php)

There are no keys!  I have some converted for FFVTTR, but I can't remember where I found them (Freedom Asylum, maybe?)

I'll check my files and see what I can find.

I just uploaded all of those requested meshes to the TexasJack3 Yahoo Group (http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/TexasJack3/).  Enjoy! :)

I believe that those are just skins for The Ghostbusters.

You know, detourne_me, I've often thought it might be good to get the old FFUnderground site back up.  I have the entire site (HTML and all) on my hard drive.  'Twould require TrainWreck and the crew's permission, but I think it's an invaluable site that should have never gone, you know, underground.  Do you know if TW said he never wanted it to see the light of day again?

Weren't hosting rights for FFUnderground passed over to the GPL crew after Train Wreck said he could no longer keep it running?

(at least parts of FFU anyways,  like the more popular mesh sites)  If this is the case,  I think MB7 or Randy would know if it would be ok to re-host the site.

The long of it:
Now I can't speak for TW at all, but I do recall (during my pre-forum days) that GP hosted FFU--at least temporarily.  DM & PB:  I
completely agree with you.  (Ok so I lost the whole thing in a crash.)  Still, I remember many things that would benefit the members
here that were lost when FFU went away.

The short of it:
Thanks again.   (No matter what happens.)

There's also a hexed mesh included in the pack (no goggles).   My copy of the original Ghostbuster was corrupted, so I wouldn't mind getting it.  Spy vs Spy would be cool too...

That may be it. I know that I haven't installed them because the meshes I was directed to were on a site that wasn't there.

I got a spy vs. Spy that works with FFv3R. It is kinda coll to put th two spies against each other.

So, does someone need to contact Texas Jack or what?

Has anyone ever done Bugs Bunny, the Tazmanian Devil, or Droopy (I have two versions of Daffy)

Yeah, from what I remember about the "last" update on the main page, once it was transferred over to GPL, he had pretty much washed his hands of it, and there'd be no further updates.  With all sections of GPL gone now, I don't suppose there'd be much issue if the Underground were hosted somewhere else, as long as it was completely intact, and not messed with.  Does anyone know if *all* of TJ's meshes were hosted there, or just a few that he selected?

Thanks ow_tiobe_sb, I finally got my childhood heroes

Say, if any of you gents host TJ's meshes in a yahoo group, are you guys gonna be stepping on someone's toes?

Based on a comparison of the downloaded site and detourne_me's file list, I would say no, several of TJ's meshes were not hosted on the FFUnderground.  For example, meshes such as Battalion, Ooze, and Sluk were not hosted on the site at the time that I downloaded it.  One troubling note: I seem to be missing some interface graphics from the original site.  I gather that they did not download as expected. :(

I think anything before TJ joined FFU was on various yahoo groups. anyway, I'm would think that TW allowed GPL to host TJ, B's (that's right, folks...there's more than just TJ there. :P), DJ's, Schizo, etc. stuff. Think of it as his last gift before he wiped his hands of FF. Now, it's possible that TW wouldnt mind and maybe even DJ...but you still got all those other skinners, B, and TJ who should probably be asked. That's just my take.

note: This message only applies if the whole FFU site was planned on being rehosted.

Aye, Prev, if any of these plans go forward, I would make certain that all parties involved were contacted for permission to host their materials.  Here is the roster list as it existed before the site went down:

Beyonder
Death's Jester
Dognoodle
Moonswolf
Schizo
Texas Jack
Train Wreck
USAgent
Vaticus

Beyonder, DJ, TJ, Train Wreck, and USAgent should be fairly easy to contact; however, I haven't seen Dog(gy)noodle or Schizo around in ages, and I've never encountered either Moonswolf or Vaticus on any of the FF forums. *shrug*

Moonswolf used to be active on this forum, dunno where he went. Out of that whole list, the only person you may not be able to reach is dognoodle and maybe schizo.

Cat Who Walks By Himself is apparently upgrading Freedom Force Forever, so as to host more sites.

Maybe should talk to him?

You just did.

But yeah, if you want a home for these meshes, as long as TJ doesn't mind, and I doubt he would, I could give someone access.

Maybe this needs a little more consideration, as in "bigger".
Over in a thread on Ink's meshes, I had considered suggesting domething like a mesh graveyard, sorta like the Mod Graveyard on Freedom Force Forever. Look at the names of the people hosted on FFU. The ones I am familiar with, Beyonder, Death's Jester, USAgent, and, of course, Texas Jack, all do fantastic work. The others, to be listed in such august company, have to be capable of some neat stuff.
And whose work, besides Ink's, did the community lose when GPL shut down?
I got Freedom Force when it came out. I downloaded the demo and played it on the laptop I was issued by my supervisor (so long as it wasn't during work hours). I enjoyed it, and at that time I downloaded quite a few meshes and skinned me several characters of my own, and waited to get the game. Well, it wouldn't run on my laptop. According to the Service Tech, the demo wouldn't run on my laptop, either. I knew it wouldn't run on my home computer. So I waited until I could get another computer. Of course, FF didn't work with XP, but...
Anyway, the point is, I had a lot of links to Freedom Force stuff from years back. When I was actually able to play the game earlier this year, I went back to as many of those sites that still existed as I could. There were a lot gone, though. If you go the the links page at NPI, maybe a third to a half  of those links don't go anywhere. The story is the same at Mad Rabbit's.
Maybe we could use a mesh and skin graveyard. We might not be able to recover all that has been lost, but if it were known that one existed, maybe we wouldn't lose much more. If someone gets tired of the game, or for whatever reason decides they no longer want to host their meshes or something, then it can go to the graveyard.

Thoughts?

P.S.: I still can't play FFv3R.

Soooo... what you aren't telling me is that it is a bad idea?

Anyway, what's going on about this? I'm sure there are a lot of people out there who have been searching for certain Texas Jack meshes for some time.
