Title: Some thoughts about the free weekend.
Post by: RTTingle on August 05, 2007, 09:41:12 AM
First...

... Issue 10 is cool and all, but I have to say my favorite thing about this weekend is being able to actually post on the boards again. Sure I stopped playing after 3 years and sadly, issue 10 isn't enough to pull me back --- but I still read those boards every day and sometimes I click the reply button and well --- I get reminded I'm not a subscriber anymore.

Now the suggestion...

... I really like the Issues 10 update. The Vanguard base is cool as all get out.  I really enjoyed running around clicking on several items to see what their description was when it popped up.  I love this new feature they started last issue --- no matter how silly and useless it is.  The invasion is real fun.  It was really cool to watch the ships fly by, dropping bombs and zapping heroes out of the sky.  The bomb marks in the ground, the explosions and the unexploded bombs were all very, very cool.  When they beamed down and attacked, it was even cooler.  Great fun gathering with a group of heroes and fighting them off. The revamped zone is pretty interesting.

... I'm most intrigued by how you earn merits and can use the in base invention kiosks for specialized zone powers and costume parts. This was similiar to an idea I was begging for before and a way that skills could be partially introduced using the Universities, Paragon Police HQ and the Paragon Times.

I would love to see the new ideas in Issue 10 and the RWZ and Vanguard be applied to COH in other ways.

I had thought, at the Universities all sorts of inventions and costume parts could be made --- except for anything that could cause damage. Defensive powers and buffs would be ok though. I know it sounds corny... but making pistols, bats and what not at a University right after the WV tragedy I thought wasn't a good idea. Universities are supposed to be the center and beginings of advanced thought and peace movements. It would also be where we found certain contacts that allowed us to have missions against certain mobs at any level. Professors who were plagued by the Vahz., CoT, and Clockwork would send us on missions to retrieve stolen devices, experiments, etc.

The Paragon Police HQ is where we would find all the offensive weapons we could invent and other special temporary powers. This is also where we would find certain contacts sending us to take care of certain mobs at any level, like the Outcasts, Warriors, and Family that they usually have trouble with.

At the Paragon Times we would find several reporter contacts sending us out on missions against mobs like the Tsoo, Crey and others we could play against as any level. We would earn temporary powers that gave use to NPC costume parts to allow us to do some undercover investigative work.

Would really just like to see what was done this issue applied in so many different ways.  I like what I see with the random clickies and I really hope to see it used in ways to expand a players world around them.  I'm really, really, really hoping this is the begining of someone trying to sneak in the idea of clues on crime investigation storylines.  Something that allowed those to enjoy missions a different way, you know --- and not just the clicking what glows.  Something that allows you to put the clues together yourself.

The merits handed out as rewards for doing a specific task... that you could cash in on temporary powers and costume parts.  Apply that idea elsewhere, like with the Universities, Paragon Times and Police HQ; be a scientist, an detective, or a police journalist.  Its almost... skills and I think in a way thats done right and would fit COH.
