Title: Jonah Hex?
Post by: cripp12 on August 02, 2007, 10:47:26 AM
Do you think Hex would make a good movie.

I actually do.  Done right it could be a unique and very interesting "universe" that would translate well to film.  There's virtually no reliable fandom, though, so any movie would have to stand on its own merits.

It would be nice if they could get Robert (Sin City, the Mariachi trilogy) Rodriguez to direct it, although I doubt it since Rodriguez isn't technically supposed to work for Directors Guild of America affiliated studios (which Warner Bros. is).

This could be a fantastic movie, and there is plenty of room to tell the story, since Hex isn't a huge property.  I mean, the thing practically writes itself.

I've only read the new Jonah Hex series and the DC collected edition volume of the older stuff ... but apparently the film-makers are going to make the Jonah Hex film more supernaturally inclined. Which I'm not that excited about.

Really?

A supernatural element would actually make me MORE likely to see it, not less...

Nah ... I like Jonah Hex more when he stays away from the supernatural (that being said, I haven't read ALL of his stuff). And I don't think I've ever seen a good supernatural western film.

I'm all for it, just so long as it's set in the "Old West". I was not a fan of "Hex".
Having it tilt towards the supernatural will make it harder for me to watch.

Yeah, but without the supernatural twist, Jonah Hex is really nothing more than another cowboy and you'd wind up with a Western.  A horror/western is a pretty new beast, picture wise, and there would be a lot of fun territory to explore.

I kinda like what they did on Batman:TAS - Western Steampunk.

Supernatural could work, if anyone's read the "Mad Amos" short stories, Alan Dean Foster did kinda of a nice balance of western and supernatrual.

Western Steampunk would be awesome....   just try not to go to close to Wild Wild West!  heheh
i also say no to the supernatural.  theres too much supernatural crud out now for my tastes.

How about  non-supernatural western done in the style of a supernatural horror movie? It strikes me that, if done well, that would fit Hex perfectly.

Off topic, but I'd like to see a steampunk variation on Saw...
