I'll end up paying it.

I see this as being something that's more attractive from a "character storage" point of view rather than a "gee I really want to play UY on Pinnacle" point of view.  I could certainly be wrong though, as I only play on one server currently.

This actually sounds like a pretty clever move by NCSoft to get some more traffic on their lesser used servers . . . or maybe to set up culling a few of the same.

I dislike the idea that I could have a char of the same name as someone else, but for whatever reason, I am forced to change it.

not that I RP Prelate, but his name is a very big part of his 'concept'.

hell I had him designed in my head LONG before I heard of CoH

$10 per transfer is far too steep in my opinion.

There's no "forcing" to change the name. If you don't move the toon, there's no reason to change it. If "The Prelate" from Liberty moves to Freedom, HE changes his name, not you.

I was referring more to moving to a 'server-less' environment.

I guess I'll deal with that, then.

or I need to go make prelates on all the servers and log them in every 90 days.

Serverless likely wouldn't happen until the game's dying anyway, when they can no longer justify the maintenance on ten servers each running at 2% capacity.

I dunno.. I think freedom is more than 2% capacity.

and if it is only 2%, they need to add some serious steroids to the hamster diets.

No, I mean that would be the trigger for them merging-- when the population has dwindled to the point that the combined playerbase wouldn't even fill one server.

I'd agree.  For one character?  What if I want to shuffle 6 slots?

We're talking transferring 6 characters off one server to make room for 6 different characters from other servers.

That's $120.  I can buy play time for a good chunk of the year for that much.  Heck, just one such shuffle is going to cost more than a month's play time.

I'd guess that nobody who isn't running a character over level 35 will want to take advantage of it at those prices, and even then I'd bet most folks will never ever transfer or rename more than one or two characters.

$5 per transfer would be a bit more reasonable.  Still high enough to keep people from doing it constantly, but low enough that folks can move or rename the characters they really want to move or rename.

Me, I'll wait for the "server-less" environment.  Or maybe they'll run a limited-time "special" on transfers someday.  Or maybe the Hulk and Batman will take ballet classes together.

You'll hopefully be waiting a very, very long time for that.

actually $10 is a bargain.. coming from WOW, it's a flat fee of $25 per character.

though it would be nice if they offered a cap on it.. say.. if you are moving 5+ at one time, you pay for the first 4-5, and the rest are free.

Can't see moving more than maybe one character, ever, at those prices.  I certainly won't be doing any slot-swapping to get all of my favorites on Freedom, and if I can't do that then why bother moving any of them?

At 10 bucks a pop that is a total bargain!  This is a program designed to transfer that one or two toons from one server to another a friend or group is playing on so you can join them with your "main of the year".  I have several friends who will likely be taking advantage of this service, and I have one or two toons that I might move as well.

Here's to hoping an internal mail system will come soon... Probably not, but I can dream can't I?

That's one of the things I really LOVED about WoW.

I heartily second that.

as it is the email system is fairly useless atm

give us internal messaging that lets us mail things to each other - on the same server though. I can imagine the nightmare of cross-server mailing of inf/enh/salvage/recipes

Would that allow you to email between toons?  I'd love a way to transfer Inf between toons more easily, although I can see why the Dev might want to discourage such a thing . . .

trying to keep us from mailing alts is pretty silly, IMO.

if they want to prevent us from giving influence to our alts, it's easily bypassed by asking a friend to play courier for 3 minutes.

That will not be a problem for me since I created DMenacer on all of the servers.
I did this after I run into some one that like my Knight Star name so much that he created another one on different server. I did this so if anyone talks about teaming with DMenacer, you will know that they were talking about me and only me.

I'd create BlueBard on all of the servers, if I ever had a toon concept that worked for me.

As it is, I don't mind very much that my other toons might have alternate identities in an alternate reality (server).  Not like I have any of them trademarked or copyrighted or anything.

I ran into a Captain Spud on Virtue. We ended up on a PUG together.

Nice fellow.

I've met several Tortuga-like (in name) characters and there's another Tortuga-esque global name out there b/c I tend to get global tells that arent for me.  I do have the name reserved on a few servers, but not all.

I've got Verfall on every server. Did that back when the name freeing up was going on.
