Title: Help!!!
Post by: Shazam on July 13, 2007, 02:17:08 PM
Hello all,
I have a big problem with my mod.
I decided to rename a character and a template. I had a character named voltimax and one named voltimax1. One was a mesh with the voltimax costume skin and the other was a mesh with his civies. I decided to make a character named gary, so I copied the voltimax charater and template, then changed the names of them to gary. I copied them rather than recreated them because they use the same mesh and skin.

I then went into ffedit and deleted the charater I was using for a mission and replaced it with the new character gary. After that I opened the script and changed all voltimax references to gary. Now when I came to run the mission, the game crashed on me straight away. I narrowed the problem down to the cutscene, however I hadn't made any mistakes in it. The game appears to object to running a cutscene with references made to the new character. If I change the script to refer to say alchemiss and use her template, the mod runs perfectly as it does with any built in character including the custom ones I made last year when I started this. If I make any new character on any mesh, the mod crashes everytime.
Modders, have you ever experienced this? I'm at my wits end with this now, please help!

It would help if you could post the actual error message.  That would likely narrow down the problem considerable, if it wasn't a dead giveaway.

I've had this and for me it's to do with heads. The only solution is to use a different mesh. If you've got a head nif then try removing that and running it, if it still breaks then it is the character mesh itself that's causing the problem and you'll have to find a new one. Sorry

Thanks for the replies. Actually Prem sorted it out for me very late last night. You're right Lunar it is to do with heads.....the fact that I hadn't set one up for the new character. Without it FF doesn't like it when the character tries to talk. I am sooo rusty right now, lol. Normally Cat I would put up an error message, but there wasn't one, the game crashes so quickly that script log doesn't get a chance to record anything.

Well, Prem found it so it doesn't matter.
