Title: From the Brink to the Edge of Infinity (Mesh Hosting Site)
Post by: Failed_Hero on July 11, 2007, 10:29:59 AM
To:    the Leadership and Members of Freedom Reborn, and the Freedom Force Community as a whole

This is announcement that I hope will gain the ear of everyone involved in FF Community.  I am in the works with a friend of mine to build a site which will have the capacity to host a great number of the meshs, skins, skopes, hexes, and fx our community as a whole creates and works hard on.

The site will be a joint along with my own InfinitysEdge productions website, which was a community set up to design an alternative Super-Hero Universe.  The site is www.freedomforce.infinitysedge.org.

Granted nothing is there now.  And that is why I am posting this announcement.  This is a ground floor operation, and I am but one person.  I am willing to host this site as gift to FF Community but I will definitely need help running a developing it.

I do this because I know that sometime ago, before I was a member of the FF community a site existed called Gamma Patrol, and the crash of that site has been a cause of a lot of confusion and frustration for people looking for meshes.  And many of peoples hard work has been saved due to some fast thinking and the blessing of Yahoo groups.

I am excited about this, and I hope other will join me in this endeavor to get our communities work in one place.

Sincerely,

Failed_Hero

If you're serious about this, I could help with the web graphics. I know Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and Indesign inside and out. Let me know what you need, in dimension and resolution too.

Good Luck with this.

I don't know that I can be of any real help, but I do have a rather large collection of stuff (meshes, mods, etc) that I would be willing to mail to someone for upload (I have dial up for a while longer).

I did want to applaud your efforts and say "thanks."  This is a great idea.

It is not going to happen as soon as I thought.  Because David, has "actual" work to do, but hopefully in two to three weeks the basics will be set up.

I'm about to put the Ink meshes that I have into yahoo groups.  Maybe it wmore efficient to just email them to you, or even send a cd through the mail if you want... yahoo groups are great but there's no way to preview the meshes.  And I wouldn't want to do all that work just to have to do it over again!

Thanks Ips, I'll take that into consideration.

This is a great idea. I would recommend trying to get in contact with Ink and asking if you could put up his meshes, those are among the most requested that aren't online anymore. Ink seems to come around every so often so you should be able to find him.

He can also be very easily reached at his DeviantArt site.  He told me that his meshes now belong to the community, but I'd agree with Pod, as things can always change.  Also, it's worth the visit to DeviantArt just to see some of his fantastic artwork.  Like this one:

I have worked out three options with my friend david to get this up and running.

Option one: Individuals can upload their own meshes, skins, fx, skopes, etc on his file service Upload Snap.com.  He is going to give anyone who registers from this community a three month trial of this service, after those three months I will take over payment for the service in order for people to keep hosting.  This is the least work for me and him and it allows people to place their own stuff up.

Option Two: We can do a community group on the same web site where one person or a trust few are give the password and allowed to upload the work of the community.

Option Three: He can create and upload feature on my website freedomforce.infinitysedge.org.  Uploads would be handled through Admin and. These same admin and artist would be able to have their own forum/gallery to place links to the .rars which would be hosted directly on the site.  With option three I believe it will be the most work for all parties and take longer but the individuals who work hard on these meshes will get the most correct credit and have all of the links to their work in one place for easy access.

The choice is up to the community.  I believe I am going to put a pole here on this topic and leave it up for 14 days if anyone thinks it needs to go longer let me know.  I believe that this way we can settle this democratically and then we can all get to work.

I'd kick in (cash) for this as well, so long as it's viable.
