If you're wavering on whether you'll see this movie or not... just... just cut off your penis and throw it away. Just do it right now.
I'll wait.
What do you need to hear? Would "It's better than 'With A Vengeance'" help?
And yes, I'm fully aware of all of the implications of that statement.
Put down the mouse, turn off your computer, get in your car, and drive to the theatre.
Do it right now.
Yes, I know it's 10pm. If you miss the screening... buy some concession snacks, find a comfy bit of sidewalk, and wait until tomorrow's show.
Oh, I'll see it. When they release it on DVD, preferably as an unneutered version.
I would have been there with giddy abandon...if it had been rated "R" like all the other Die Hards. He doesn't even get to finish his "Yippie Ky-i-ay" properly. Next they'll get Sam L. Jackson to only say "Well, shucks!"
The soul of this fine fine movie has been ripped out in order to cater to children. Also, it has been done to release multiple versions of the DVD, PG-13 and "unrated" versions.
The industry is annoyingly predictable.
Have either of you seen it?
Then don't speak ill of this film. It is marvellous. It has NO FLAWS.
But no, you're right. It's much more important to look like a pretentious film connaisseur than let yourself enjoy a movie about explosions.
<_<
I will say that I think this is the best Comic Book movie we've had this year....
This aint a Die Hard film.
Its a really good, if over the top Bruce Willis Action movie.
But its not a Die Hard movie.
The whole beauty of the Die Hard series was that John McClain was the every man. The joe schmo who ended up in ridiculous situations and got hurt, got frustrated, got tired etc... and through it all he just kept pushing forward, shooting and swearing more and more the worse it got cause thats really all he could do. As several reviews have pointed out, the original Die Hard was kind of the antithesis of the Overblown Impervious Action hero. With this film, the character becomes the antithesis of himself. He basically becomes Jack Bauer from 24. The Superhero Action guy who can shake off anything in 10 seconds flat.
Image if when Die Hard came out, Marvel comics licensed the character for a Die Hard comic Book. Being a comic book, it took the character to new and ridiculously unbelievable levels. Now flash forward. Lets say Issues 121-124 of this mythical comic book were then adapted by 20th Century Fox into a movie. Thats what Die Hard 4 is. Its a comic book filtered rendition of the John McClain character from an old movie called Die Hard.
All that being said, Its ridiculously entertaining....if taken for what it is.
There are a few scenes (one especially) that are laughably bad and feel out of place.
But there is enough ham fisted fun action to overlook those couple of blatant missteps.
And its nice to see Bruce Willis out of the mopey mumbling phase of his career and back into a bit of boisterous arse kickin.
**As for the PG13, yes the character loses something by not being able to inject the word F*** every 30 seconds, but its definitely in the "R" category in terms of violence, its just the violence is done without a lot of blood. It didnt bother me near as much as i thought it would.

Actually from the reviews I've read he does get to drop the f bomb once and I'll let you figure out when he does it ;)
QuoteActually from the reviews I've read he does get to drop the f bomb once...
He does, but its conveniently said along with some background noise so that while you can hear him say it, its a bit drowned out. Its kind of a cop out.... I dont understand how a swear word is somehow more offensive or harmful than a bunch of people getting shot, beat up, blown up etc....
i only want to know one thing to get me to go with all the talk of it being a 12a in the uk (pg13 for usa) does the pivotal line appear
Quotedoes the pivotal line appear
Yes it does, see my post above yours....thats the f bomb being referred to.
Though Ive never understood the love of the line.
It was kinda funny and throwaway in the first one.
Yet everyone feels like it needs to be shoehorned into every other film where it makes no sense at all other than "Ha ha, he said that line again"

In the first film, if you recall, the conversations between McClain and Gruber at one point geared around the theme of old westerns and cowboys. The theme continued through the film with Roy Rogers being referenced a few times until the line was uttered.
It would've normally been a throwaway line except there was a sort of lead in to it. The fact that the line is so oft quoted and has been used in every film (for no related reason) I don't get either but the first one I definitely understood.

Yeah thats what I meant. In the first it makes sense based on the conversation. In the later films, it makes no sense at all. Its not like Ahnuld and his "I'll be Back" as that line can work and be an in joke in numerous situations...
"yippee Kay Yay..." doesn't flow into everyday conversation nearly as well.
And they never even really tried to al least craft the dialogue around it into a situation where it could be funny for him to say it... Its just said for the sake of saying it...
In a pg-13 movie, they are permitted one "F-bomb". But not a MF-bomb, which is what is needed to finish his line.
I wouldn't be a bit upset if he never even said it at all in the movie. But they started it, and didn't finish it.
