In my quest to build perfect hero files - stop laughing ALL OF YOU!! - I have been 'fixing' Gambit and ran into the following.
I gave Gumbo Atomic touch so that anything he throws - generally mailboxes and trash cans he has a 3 strength - explodes on impact and I gave him a Molecular Excitation melee to charge up cars, buses, rocks and phone booths (which makes using him and Rogue together fun BTW! He charges it up and she throws it)
ANYWAY...
I was thinking about how to simulate his card attacks and came up with the following:
3 different attacks
- a single card with no cost, low energy damage and a small radius
- a flight spawn of 4 for low cost - again low damage and low radius (pretty big area w/ 4 4 of them though!)
- Finally a power called 52 pick-up it is a flight spawn 4 with a 3 contact ranged animation - 12 cards (ok not quite 52 but it's plenty!) The damage is where I am a bit hesitant. I stuck with low damage in a small radius (again this is 12 small radius projectiles, so there is quite a ka-boom!).
My thinking was thus : Each card is not doing any more damage than normal. There are just lots of them. As such, simply throwing 12 cards at Iron Man vs just 1 is not going to make a difference. To me it is like firing 1 pistol at a tank vs 12. IF one bullet will bounce off the armor, all of them will.
Anyone else have an opinion on this?
That sounds exactly like my Gambit hero file.
I did give him a staff area attack (like in X-Men Legends) but that seems unnecesary since you have him with the 4x ranged projectiles (and he never really does that in the comics, right?)
Of course I use the staff animations for melee attacks.
His total power set looks like
zero cost:
Kick - weak melee
card - the single card mentioned above
low cost:
5 card stud (the flight spawn above)
staff strike - a 2 contact 180 degree arc melee
kinetic charge - molecular excitation
medium cost:
staff flurry - a five contact staff attack (Gambit has been shown to have devastating hand speed)
staff spin - active defense vs projectiles similar to 'eternal vigilance' as Gambit routinely deflects projectiles back at people
High cost:
52 pick up - the flight spawn/ 3 contact attack
