Title: virus software
Post by: afterburn on May 26, 2007, 10:17:50 PM
Hey guys.  I got a virus that just won't quit.  My current software, McAfee, recognizes it and just won't delete it.  I've tried so many things.  Is there something I can either download as freeware, or if I need to, go out and buy something that is definitive and get rid of the crud mucking up my system.

Thanks

Some viruses can't be auto-removed by McAffee or Norton.  Do a quick search on google for the virus name.  You should find several sites with step by step instructions on removal that may or may not involve AntiViral software.  I personally use AVG Free edition from Grisoft.

You're a lifesaver.  Did the trick and picked up AVG free edition, which is already picking up some little nuggets that McAffee missed.  Thanks again.

You're welcome.  Glad it helped.

many viruses are designed specifically to elude Norton and McAfee. AVG is a good choice.

In addition, run AV software in safe mode now and again. Many of the file viruses love to infect are locked (and cannot therefor be fixed or deleted) when windows runs normally.
