Avoid playing with Spud. :P

Most of us play on Freedom, but we have a smattering of toons across other servers as well.

Did you have any idea what sort of toon you wanted to play?

Get invited to the FR/NRF channel as quickly as possible - probably the easiest way to get ahold of us and get quick advice and quality teams in game.

not too sure yet. I was just dinking around with the character creator to try to figure out a look etc. I think I might be a tanker or a scrapper. I will probably make a couple

Scrapper's probably the best starter character. Enough defenses to be forgiving of newbie mistakes, and enough damage that you won't get bored in the 30s.

Unless you're like me and get bored of em in the 20's...

Heh. Well they're good for learning the basics of the game anyways.

And how to play mindlessly as well.

That's kinda the point. You don't need to think about your own character, so you can pay more attention to the rest of the game.

I made some test characters 2 heroes 1 villian just to test out the creation. If I delete one can I use the same name again or is it gone forever?

As long as a name isn't currently taken, you can use it.

Hooray, IMO scrappers and controllers are loads of fun to play. Good luck!

So to make sure I am clear? if I delete one of my test characters I can reuse that name since no one would have it anymore correct?

That's the theory, at least. I'm pretty sure I've actually done that once of twice.

If you're unsure, try creating a test character you don't intend to play, give the character some nonsense word name which you've written down somewhere so you don't forget it, delete the character, create a new one, and give it the same name. For a test character you don't plan to play, you won't have to give any thought to any aspect of charater creation- don't even bother designing a costume- so it shouldn't take long.

It most certainly does work.  I've often created and played a character to 2 or 3, then decided I wanted to change something.  I delete that character, redesign and use the same name usually within 5-15 minutes and all's well.

sweet I will try it :) the character creation is pretty interesting. I made one guy who looks pretty close to Apocalypse. I am still deciding on names and appearances before I get full blown into it. So are most of you Heroes or Villians?

I think most of us play both, actually. These days, I'd say we tend to play heroes more often, but there was a tiem when we were playing villains more often, and I imagine that that will tend to cycle around.

Note that there are tailor shops in the game, where you can cahnge your character's appearance in-game. Also, as you increase in level, you can open additional costume slots, so your character can have multiple costumes.

I bought CoV (at a discount) mainly for the ability to use bases and some of the extra content that bleeds over into the hero side.  I tried a few villains, but I don't really get into some of the missions.  I'm too much of a 'good-guy' at heart to really enjoy playing evil for very long.

Now, if they ever come through with the promise of being able to cross the good-evil barrier and if that process is semi-reasonable and doesn't totally strip the characters of their essence, I might play villains with the intent of eventually 'converting' them into heroes.

I play almost solely as a hero - I also can't get into the role of a villain.  :)

Although I just created a plant/thorn dominator -- "Forest Grump" -- in order to team with my son; it's kind of fun.

I enjoy playing the hero more, too- but I can enjoy playing a villain at times, as well, if I'm in the right mood...

Still, if and when they start allowing characters change from villain to hero, I suspect some of my villains will be making the switch... Just have to figure out which ones...

(Unfortunately, of my villains on Freedom, the two who are the ATs I'd most want to try playing as a hero are probably teh least likely, "in character", to make the switch...)

I think CoV is a much better game, and I encourage you to get it at your first opportunity.  I've seen them at Best Buy for less than $20.  IMO, the classes are much more enjoyable to play, and I don't get bored like I did playing CoH.  I absolutely felt the level grind in CoH between levels 20 and 40.  I'm having a blast playing a master mind in cov, and in very little time have reached level 32.

It seems like there are more villains playing CoH than CoV.  Every time I go play on the "good" side I'm teaming up with "Satan's Tears", or "The Defiled One" or something like that.  You fight the same guys, for the most part, in each game, so I'm not sure that hero/villain line is that pronounced.
