Hi and welcome to "Em's Crap"! This is the umpteenth version of this thread. The other incarnations were eaten by the board.
All new art will be posted here for you to see. To save anyone with a slower connection a little time I replace all old images with links to look at them. This keeps people from having to load 10 images just so they can look at the newest one.
Thanks for stopping by!

This is my February (AC 14) entry. I'm posting it here because I hope to have more stuff to show off in the near future. Plus the AC 14 thread has been archived in the Arena forum.
My assignment was an amalgam of Colonel America (Marvel Zombies) and The Joker (DC Comics). My idea was Colonel Anarchy, an insane super soldier.
Here is my initial drawing of Captain Anarchy. I drew this to get a feel for what the character looked like before I "zombified" him.
http://65.98.89.98/~captain/mjb/images/captain-anarchy.jpg (http://65.98.89.98/~captain/mjb/images/captain-anarchy.jpg)
When it came time to draw him in zombie form I decided to use Arthur Suydam's style of doing a parody of a famous cover. I chose The Killing Joke (http://www.fantasticfiction.co.uk/images/n5/n28753.jpg) by Brian Bolland. I didn't want to draw it totally like Brian did and I didn't want to color it in the style of Suydam. So I chose to mix a bit of Bolland with MJB and do it in the parody style of Suydam.
Here's the pencils.
http://www.captainspud.com/mjb/images/colonelamerica_pencils.jpg (http://www.captainspud.com/mjb/images/colonelamerica_pencils.jpg)
I changed a few things when I started inking it.
Here are the inks.
http://www.captainspud.com/mjb/images/colonelamerica_iniks.jpg (http://www.captainspud.com/mjb/images/colonelamerica_iniks.jpg)
Finally I threw together the colors.

Comments are always welcome.
More is on it's way... I hope.
-MJB
That is so wicked cool! That really is great, Meej. Glad to see you posting art again.
Hey, does that mean you have a working scanner now?
Good work MJB... I especially love that bird nesting in his skull... gives new meaning to the phrase "going cuckoo!"
Great stuff, Meej!
I like the concept, especially because of how odd of a concept it is. :P
Daaang, that's creepy. That colouring is... wow. Yeah, this picture is great.
The only thing I find odd is the shadow on his right arm. Instead of a shadow, it looks like he's wearing some sort of mesh thing under his glove. ...unless that's what you intended.
But as a shadow, the line just seems too defined, at the very least on the crosshatched area.
Other than that, though, this is really a lovely, abeit disturbing, image.
that is one of the coolest things i have ever seen
:o
Soooo sweet! The color and shading give it exactly the right feeling. I got goosebumps on my goosebumps!
I sure hope you're getting paying gigs for you work, Em - this is good stuff.
EC
Thank you for the comments. Keep them coming. ;) :)
-MJB
Dead bird nesting in the brains. That makes the picture!
Wow Em, your inkin gon this is stunning. Yes the bird's nest is cool, but what really caught my eye was the inks. Great job.
Thanks for the comments people.
Here's something new. This is a villain designed by my eight year old son.
"Evil" Red Star
http://www.captainspud.com/mjb/images/redstar.jpg (http://www.captainspud.com/mjb/images/redstar.jpg)
That's a super rush job on the colors. I've been busy with other projects today so I didn't have time to put a spit shine on it.
-MJB
I was just wondering when the next piece of crap would be flung.
Thats pretty nifty. sweet design, nicely rendered :)
Your son has a good eye. Nice outfit and cool scar. Great colors and expression too. What's his schtick?
Great drawing!
Like Glitch, I want to know what his whole deal is.
I like the boxing gloves. Good job!
Looks like junior's going to be a chip off the ol' ice block.
Cool stuff, Em!
EC
Cool beans, MJB!
What's the 'Good' Red Star look like?!
nice job! :) i love it! :D
What's that? An update? Well not really...
I haven't had the inspiration, nor the drive, to draw anything recently. I still sketch from time to time but it's usually on scrap paper while a zone is loading in City of Heroes. I draw on printer paper with a Bic pen usually. Most of the time I just throw the paper away when I'm done for the night. Here's one that survived...
http://www.captainspud.com/mjb/images/sketches_07.jpg (http://www.captainspud.com/mjb/images/sketches_07.jpg)
Clockwise starting on the top. That's Bluudlust, Ghost Rider, Brainstorm and Lou. The head to the right of Brainstorm is just a doodle.
Here's one that I colored with my son's colored pencils.
http://www.captainspud.com/mjb/images/mjb_vampires_sketch.jpg (http://www.captainspud.com/mjb/images/mjb_vampires_sketch.jpg)
Last but not least this is one that I sketched in pencil and then inked. I did it all while playing CoH. :)

Wow, that's a fairly violent image with that last one, and the level of violence is actually magnified by what at first glance looks to be a fairly innocuous sense of design (you'd think it would have the opposite effect of "softening" the tone). Great job getting all that emotion through the drawing.
Thank you for the comment Zulu. I really appreciate it.

I gotta get you to learn Illustrator. It would suit your style. Nice to see you making art again!
(Now I just gotta get you participating in the challenges again.)
yea illustrator is great , once you master the pen tool its smooth sailing
I purchased an older version of Illustrator on Ebay for cheap. Now I need to learn how to use the pen tool. I used it briefly in my Graphic Design class last year, but I kind of chickened out..
EDIT:  Meej--cool drawing! I like that you showed the "pencil" stage. Nifty!
MeeJub! Great to see you drawing again! I like the angle on the Sentinel with his cjest hiding his chin as he leans back a little. I can't wait to see it colored.
Thanks for posting the pencils. I love seeing an artist's process in stages. Keep it up and post the finishes piece when you color it!
Psst! Mowgli, look up a couple posts... :P
-MJB
I'm a jerk.
Anyway, I like the night time coloring, it really makes the eyes and lights into focal points. Since you have used lines to indicate curling of the gas, you might wants to add another shade of green to give the gas a bit of volume. Looks good though. Sorry I missed it. :banghead:
Great stuff here. You are damn talented!

Wow! Just wow!
Love that colors!
Meejub, have my babies.
Please.
:o
*sighs, goes to prepare the shrub
Meejob, I love the inks. There's a lot of great detail in there and I like the viewpoint. The colors obscure a lot of the detail you did on WM's back. Other than that, I like the shadows. It adds to the feel of an aftermath. Keep posting these!
The babies? The family shrub will need updating ;)
Really love that sentinel, currently is my background

Thanks for the kind words about the inks, Mowgli. Spud seems to have liked what I did as well. As for the colors obscuring the inks, all I can say is that you may want to check out your monitor. Not saying that I am infallible, but the colors on this pic turned out nice. The colors do not obscure anything on my monitor.
That being said there is a good chance that I need to adjust the colors on this monitor.
Me love to contradict what I say!!
The cycle is... never ending.

Up next: Stiltman.
Spud drew the layout and I basically just inked it. Added some touches of my own.

**EDIT**
Sorry about the muddy colors. Working to fix them. *sigh*
**EDIT-2: Electric Boogaloo**
You may have to refresh a couple of times but I brightened the colors a bit.
-MJB
LOL!
That is an awesome drawing there guys! It's a simple idea with the perspective... I wonder why no one else has thought of it? That is simply great!
That's right, three new pix from good ol MJB.
Spuds project rolls on. This weeks subject: Starro!
I had the idea for the first Starro design right off the bat. I sent Spuddles a doodle I did in MS Paint (Ill spare your eyes by not showing it). Spud sent back a sketch of his own. I liked it so I used it as a basis to put my own spin on it.
Inks/Colors

http://www.captainspud.com/mjb/images/starro1_colors.jpg (http://www.captainspud.com/mjb/images/starro1_colors.jpg)
Next up I had the idea of the images telling parts of the same story. Pic one has Starro arriving and fighting members of the JLA. Pic two would show a hero getting possessed. Pic three would show a Starro controlled hero taking on a normal un-possessed one.
Here's the initial sketches I did: **CLICK HERE TO VIEW** (http://www.captainspud.com/mjb/images/starro-sketch1.jpg)

-MJB
oh man, I like all three of these, for different reasons. The first is a good overall sort of pic, and even at that small size, Bats still looks grim. Is there a reason you went away from the standard gold/yellow coloring for the Daily Planet globe? The second one is just a classic MJB sort of emotion.....it's got that campy edge to it, without being horrible. The last one gives a sort of "ouch" reaction, as Steel is getting pwned in the back of the head by a full-on power ring blast. I don't see that ending well for the man with the hammer. Overall,
That's awesome, Em!
Although I saw the cape first as....a blood spray! And then I thought, "Oh noooo, GL's gone into the head-severing business!!". Then I realized it was a cape and was happy again. Note to self: put on glasses FIRST next time. :P

Honestly? I had the old Superman animated series in my head. The boys used to have a fast food Superman toy from the series that had a grey Daily Planet globe on it. For the first time since I started this project I didn't do research for one of the items. Heck I even dug out my "Heavens Ladder" book for reference on Steel.
-MJB
After taking a week off from Spud's project, I'm back with a new pic!
When Spuddles mentioned that his subject for this week was the Inhumans I was immediately lost. I haven't read any of the Jae Lee Inhuman books and I'm not familiar with the characters. Then he told me what he needed me to draw, a picture of the Inhuman city, Attilan. The shot was of the dome over the city cracking open
He sent me reference shots and a sketch of the camera angle. I was intimidated but gave it my best. Here it is.

The perspective of his right knee/thigh doesn't seem to be working....it just looks like a big round thing. Don't ask me how to fix it, though.
Maybe a lighter colored line around his hair to make it stand out better from the smoke behind his head?
I agree with both points Panther made and I think another colour on the blanket of the baby might be better.
I like how the fire is coming from his shoulder / arm. Cool pic.

Oh yeah!(I love your style btw ^_^)
very nice, MJB. I think, and take this lightly since i don't do the whole art thing, if you shrunk the knee a bit and "relaxed" it so that it isn't on the same level as his crotch, it'd look a bit better.
Hey Em! Good stuff here. The thigh doesn't bother me. This may sound weird, but try flipping the image horizontally in Photoshop. Since we read from left to right, I think the image "reads" more smoothly that way. I tried it and thought it looked good that way. Let me know what you think.
Either way, I like the image. It has a strong sense of action (frozen). Well done.
MJB you and Spud is Killin It!!!

Wow. I'm surprised that my drawing was symmetrical enough that you didn't see 1,000 flaws once you flipped it.
-MJB
I love the concept, but I think a change in camera angle would dramatically increase the 'action' of the picture. Place the camera at 45 degrees, as if he'd coming toward you but to the side. Of course, that would mean reworking a great pic, so that's up to you. :)
Appreciate the feedback, Tortles but this one has been Spud Approved™. I've already received my next assignment. :D
-MJB
Here it is folks, the last drawing for Spud's project.
I was assigned the Lizard League from Invincible. I wasn't familiar with them so Spuddles was kind enough to supply some scans for reference.
Sadly real life punched me in the junk and I missed the deadline. :(

I've always loved your work, Meej. Good stuff!
The only suggestion I have is go read Invincible!
I love it!
You know, before I start a drawing, I always seem to grab a scrap sheet of paper and attempt convinve myself I can draw like MJB.
Sadly, it is not the case. I'll just have to settle for the real thing.
Thanks for the comments guys. Now that Spud's project is over I don't know when/if I'll be drawing anything.
I have some old stuff lingering around that I may finally finish if I get bored. Meh.

Thanks for the comments guys. It means a lot. :)

I like your technique for shadowing - The drawing looks cool expecially the rocks
What color is Bloodlust exactly? I remember an old pic of him and he was reddish brown I think, is he still that color because I think he is green in COX isn't he?
In CoX he's red with tiger type stripes. In my old books he would have been a brownish red, if I had colored them.

I read somewhere that some professional artists sketch pictures of other characters to warm up their hand. The other day I planned on drawing something else but wanted to warm up first so I drew this.
Venom, Spidey and Hulk.
