When creating a base skin, did you work with the flesh tones first or did you just use various shades of grey and then apply a color overlay later on?
I was just wondering if one was easier/harder or if working with flesh tones made the final product better.
oddly, I worked in greyscale for my bases, but did my faces in colour....
i'll dig out a timelapse for a face:

I find seeing others work flow helps :)
wow! that helps a lot. i had been using the wiremap as a guide up til now, but i like the idea of sketching out some lines much better.
thanks a bunch for the timelapse. now i just need to figure out how to slow it down
All of my bases (minus the costume one) were done in flesh tones.
made my first one in flesh tones... blergh
made the second in greyscale , MUCH better
easier for colouring different skin tones and nicer to work with :)
I was thinking of making a "Curt Swan" base. My plan was to take a wire fram for male basic, place it on a light box, place another piece of paper over the wire fram page, and then draw on Curt Swan-esque faces, muscles, etc. Once that was done, i could scan in the new drawing. It would probably take some time to get it perfect, but I think it would look neat. I wasn't sure how to add the tones, either. I maybe just leave it black and white.
My bases are done in greyscale, very simple and undefined. I'll make it just a bit darker then I intend the final product to be, recolor it, and add definition with the highlights.
I don't add faces though. I try to redo the faces with each skin to make them each unique.
I created my base(s?) in flesh tones, actually.
