Title: DNS Issues
Post by: captainspud on May 08, 2007, 09:17:55 PM
I'm having some DNS issues with my site (www.captainspud.com isn't pointing to it anymore), and it may take a couple days to sort out (or it could take an hour...). In the meantime, pardon the weird "slow exposure traffic" dealie it's subbing in for picture links. And for those I'm hosting files for, PM me and I'll give you an IP you can link to that still works during the downtime.

And now I return to figuring out which end the problem is on.

Joy.

I'm something of a DNS expert, if you want the assistance...

Crap. I found the problem, and I'm not sure what to do about it.

I just realized that I originally registered the site immediately after finishing last year, which would put the anniversary right about now. I think I only registered the domain for a year, and it just expired.

Ordinarily this wouldn't be a problem, but the company I registered with (Inspire Networks) got hit with a DDOS attack after three months and had to cease operations. I switched over to a new host and took the domain (which was registered for me by the original company) with me. So, now that it seems to have expired, I have no idea who owns it or how to get it back. @_@

Help?

:(

If you can't get it back go for "www.captain-spud.com".

Have you done a "whois" at Networksolutions.com?  That might tell you who currently holds your registration.

The good news is, the domain is still technically registered to you.  Here's the whois lookup from dnsstuff.com:

QuoteUsing 0 day old cached answer (or, you can get fresh results).
Hiding E-mail address (you can get results with the E-mail address).

You will lose the registration within about a month if you don't act.  You need to visit enom.com and figure out how to pay for it.  If you need help with that process, let me know.

Thanks to Bard and Glitchy for hooking me up with the name of my registrar... I went to their site, and it turns out I had an account there under the login from my original host, and was able to re-activate it... with auto-renew this time. ;)

Thanks for the help, everybody! :D
