Title: Compressing Shield Bubbles
Post by: Cybertronian on May 05, 2007, 07:21:14 AM
I've recently attempted to hex a mesh for one of my characters, who wears a Saturn ring around his torso.
So far, I've managed to graft one of the shield bubbles to him in order to make it look convincing, however I wonder if it would look better using one of the bubbles from such shields as the GL_shield and the banshee_shield FX.
Problem is, when I copy one of them to my mesh, the bubble becomes round again.
How do I compress the bubble into something resembling a pancake?

IIRC, those bubbles are actually billboard nodes, meaning flat 2D squares with an alpha-ennabled texture on them... so if you copy just the editable mesh portion and not the node, as I found thru trial and error, it should result in a flat disc.  you can then angle it and scale it to the size and position you want.
