Title: There's a new hero in town!
Post by: The Phantom Eyebrow on April 27, 2007, 09:39:24 AM
Several of them in fact.  I just got my hands on the US version of CoH/CoV and have created some characters on the Freedom server as I gather that this is where the cool kids hang out.

I look forward to seeing ye there!

Welcome aboard, you're joining at a pretty good time...

... lots to see at its best, a lot of generic maps have been updated as special maps, etc.

... lots to do!  Incredible zones with some different enviroments that'll keep you busy for a long, long, long time.

... on the verge of a new system being added to the game!

Now... we know where to find you.  Just 'um... mind filling us in on who you are in the game?  You may also want to join the FR channel in chat.

the channel is called "FR and NRF". Free to join. There's a global listing around here if you want some help getting up to speed with FR's umpteen billion alt squads. :p

Yay!

Do you know your global handle? If you haven't changed it (which you can only do once), it's probably the name of your first character with a "@" in front. We have a partial list of global handles in this thread (http://freedomreborn.net/archive/index.php?topic=41864.0). You can add people to your Global Friends list by typing /gfriend (handle), where (handle) is the person's global handle- for example, /gfriend Alaric 7 (yes, there's a space and than a 7 in my handle) would put me on your Global Friends list. This makes it a lot easier to get in touch with other players- you can right click on their names on your list to send them "tells" or team invites, etc.

Hope to see you in-game soon!

Bienvenido, Eybrow!

Be sure to also check the "Active Super/Villain Group List" thread under the Super/Villain Groups forum heading.  There you'll find the FR super group and a bunch of other satellites that might interest you as well.

Look forward to meeting you in game!  :D

Thanks folks!  It'll take me a while to get to grips with the mechanism for communicating online but I'll learn, oh by God I will surely learn.  Based on what I gather to date, I can be contacted at @ Captain Impossible as this was the first guy I made.

Cool news, Eyebrow!

On a separate matter - what is the time difference between where you live and the East Coast?

I'm pretty sure TPE's local time would be 5 hours later than Eastern Standard time.

Welcome aboard TPE.  I'll be sure to add you to my friends list and would be more than happy to help show you the ropes.  And I'm in charge of the Global Chat Handle & Active Super Groups threads that Al and Condor mentioned.  Once I know exactly what your Global handle is, I'll be sure to add you to the list.  I would suggest that you look at that list and add all the globals you see there as global friends.  There is usually at least one person on from here at all times of the day.

Thanks to everyone that helped me on Friday with such things as using the communication channels, using insert the subway, allowing me join the FR group, helping me bash villains and giving me scads of prestige points!

One thing I noticed is that the colour looks kinda funny outdoors but fine indoors.  It's just slightly off.  Is that deliberate because of the big glowing walls of energy about the city or could this be a graphics problem?

It depends on the time of day.  The game models the angle of the sun based on the virtual time of day, so sunrise and sunsets the lighting is darker than it is around noon.

And, depending in part on your graphics card, at certain times of day in certain zones the colors can change in very odd ways.

You could try playing with the in-game graphics settings, though.

To clear up some lose ends:

- Yes we have always been those few steps ahead of you lot; 5 hours ahead to be exact.
- I think it was the night time effects I was looking at - My character's costume looks odd under that lighting is all it is.
- I have probably spent as much time creating characters as playing them.  I have to get TPE or another one up to a decent level so I can team up with you lot some more.

So far so good I have to say.
