Title: Metal Storm Mod - minimalist decor
Post by: The Phantom Eyebrow on April 02, 2007, 02:47:42 PM
I wasn't sure whether to make a thread for this or pm Wickerman directly, but I went with this option in case someone else could help first.  I'm considerate that way...

I downloaded the latest missions for the mod a while back and was playing through from the beginning but then I got sidetracked and have only got back to it now.  I was playing as far as the mission Inside the Machine with Shrapnel and Alyson and it plays okay but it looks a little odd, see:

It looks like the map is based on the Shadow or Ant levels from the original game - I presume there's just a texture file missing or something.  Is there an easy fix perchance?

Ta muchly in advance anyone...

hrm, I dont remember having that problem when I played the mod. If there are missing map textures, I'm pretty sure they would show up in ff.log as missing (it's been awhile since i modded though so...:S).

Sidenote: that gif is so...pixel-y.

Anyway, I hope you can find a fix to this soonish, sir TPE.

Ta muchly Lord Prev.  (See, I knew I was right to make a thread).

Incidentally, the pixelly nature is due to the fact that I shrank (or shrunk) the image and then GIF-ed it.  Or GIF-ed it and then shrank it.  I forget now.

I just checked the installation files and the textures were there - I recall you did some play testing fo rm e- did you get a beta maybe?

Just digging to be sure there is no problem before the next release...

You know, now that you mention it, it might be the case that I'm still working off the beta of the mod.  I will download the version of ms3 and patch 1.3 from your webpage and see how it goes.  I know I playtested for you before and perhaps I offered to do so for this version, but obviously I did a very poor job as I'm only playing this mission now.  Sorry 'bout that but I can assure you that I have been greatly enjoying it.

Gosh darn it!  I installed the files and tried playing again, both with my save file and with the save file you provided, but I keep getting the error message

alert: CCampaignImp::getNextCampaignMissionDef(), invalid campaign mission index

I know this is a common error message, in fact I have definitely come across this one before, but I have no clue how to fix it.

did you reinstall into a new folder or install over the previous version?

I installed those files over a previous version.  As a cross check I started a new campaign and it seems to play okay (although I just played the very first bit).  I could always play through the missions again to see how I get on.

Sorry for the late reply with this, but there's no need for you to do anything yet I think.  When i have the chance I'll play through again and if the problem of the blanked out terrain recurs I'll let you know.
