Oh yeah, it's been out for a couple of months.  I'm looking forward to the movie.

While Valandar may describe the bots as "T-1 endoskeletons covered in car vomit"...I kinda like that concept.

It's something different.  We've seen the solid blocks of metal in the G1 designs, now we've been given something that allows us to see the working mechanisms inside of these things, but also keeps some seriously awesome looking Transformers-y goodness.

I've never been a particular fan - I was just a little too old to get into transformers when they first came out.  I must say, though, the film looks to be much more intense and "grown up" than the cartoon.

I think that's cool... if it was all campy I would have a hard time getting into it. I was always much more of a G I Joe guy than a transformers guy, I dunno... the hopes of watching somebody get severly injured I guess. Happened a LOT in the comic.

And GI Joe wasn't campy?  ^_^

I think he meantthe GI Joe comics, not the series. Noone ever really got hurt in the toon, despite the massive amounts of firefights they got into.

They had an episode... where the badguy was called THE VIPER. He would keep calling... "I am the Viper..."

in the end it turns out it was a cleaner... "I am the viper, I have come to vipe your vindows!"

Oh yeah it was campy, but like proto say's I mean the comics.

there are two new trailers out, though much shorter...they can be found on IGN.com.  They're pretty neat though, almost all brand-new footage.

Well, I've seen the trailer...and I have to say, the special effects look awesome...but it's just completely unrecognizable to me as Transformers.  If they had slapped a different name on this movie, I'd probably be more interested, because I just can't connect these "T-1 endoskeletons covered in car vommit" with the noble autobots.

I don't really like transformers.
And i really dislike Michael Bay as a filmmaker.
But...uh... yeah.
I agree.
I'm kinda excited now.

I don't have anything against Bay as a director although he is far from being my favorite director.  However, I am definitely looking forward to this movie.

Just out of curiousity, Goggles, what about Michael Bay's work don't you like?  Not asking to start anything, I'm asking as someone who is still trying to get his feet wet as in the business.

Pearl Harbor.

Now we never mention this again.

Quotewhat about Michael Bay's work don't you like?

Now a lot of this is personal preference and observation. Everyone sees these things differently

But for me, I think he is a very talented technical filmmaker.
And its not to say that he hasn't done some movies that I have enjoyed (The Rock is a guilty pleasure)
My main problem with him is that he embodies the MTV style over substance type of film making to me.
The 3 frame quick edit, the hand held shaky cam, the complete overuse of the heavy handed musical cue.

These things can be effective as a technique (I think the Bourne movies use them well), but not a standard look and feel for every single movie you do.

He also seems to have a library of "Michael Bay" -isms that need to be put in every film. They just seem to stick out to me in an annoying way.

The obsession with the Humvee vs. Exotic Sports car.
The annoying slow mo circle cam as the characters stand up and look into the distance dramatically (the bad boys shot).
And this one is subjective, but all his stuff looks like a Michael Bay film. Supersaturated colors, high contrast. Its like none of his films seem to try and evoke imagery to go with the story or the tone. You could take scenes out of the The Rock, Bad Boys, Armageddon, Pearl Harbor and The Island...splice them all together and they all would look like they came from the same film (story elements aside)

Now these same arguments could apply to some other filmmakers, my most obvious comparison would be Tony Scott, but he at least seems to try different types of over stylized nonsense to try and fit the tone of the film hes doing. Like there is some kind of art process to what he does. Bay's stuff seems like what an automated computer would spit out when you requested "overly loud big budget" movie. Technically well done, but soulless.

Sorry for the potential thread jack, if people would like to continue in this discussion in its own thread or via PM thats cool....

That trailer sucked at first, but a quarter of the way in, it just TOOK OFF!!!  :o

That was awesome-ly awesome.  Far better than both of the previous trailers.  Thanks for sharing, Ren.  ^_^

i just want to make a quick note here before too many people here start griping about it.

Bumblebee was made a camaro instead because

1) Volkswagen did not want any of their vehicles used in a context of war rather it was real or fictional.  Thus, permission was not given for a VW Bug to be used.

2) A lesser reason was there were fears of a comparision to Herbie The Love Bug.  I believe this was said in gest.

I find the first reason funny since VW will forever be remembered for their association with the Nazi's during WWII.

I'm also one who really isn't a fan of Micheal Bay and when it was announced he was directing the TF movie I was ready to pas on this movie. But after seeing the trailer before Pirates I'm earnestly excited about it. I was sold when they showed Optimus roll around the corner as a truck and then transform.

From all of the interviews and behind the scenes stuff that I've run across in the last few weeks... it's pretty apparent that while Spielburg knew he couldn't bring the cartoon on screen completely he managed to make sure that the heart of the franchise would be (hence why he turned a lot of wheels to make sure that as many of the original voices would be returning.. especially Frank Welker as Megatron and Peter Cullen as Optimus Prime).

Transformers needs to have that summer-action quality to pull in the July audience but manage to pull in enough parents who grew up with the old cartoon and toys to start a whole new updated franchise. That new trailer seems to show that "spark" (excuse the pun) that I was worried would be missing as the surface of the film almost seems to be about another movie entirely (Matrix-like robots which can shapechange and occassionally show the trademark symbols now and then). I have some worries that the whole core concept behind the movie will be lost behind all of the uber realism and merchandising but I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

The only voice returning as their character is Peter Cullen as Optimus.  Hugo Weaving is slated to play Megatron instead of Frank Welker.  Welker, however, will be playing Megs in the videogame.

You should hear the real one than...

Of course I don't think any theme could compare to the original movie one. This one is a pretty good cover of that actually.

Thanks for the link, buddy.  I'm actually going to buy Black Lab's Technologie album just because of that cover.
