Gold. Just Pure. Gold.
Apparently, it was stolen by Stephen Colbert.
It was! Agents outside of Comedy Central, that mugshot....its Colbert!
Dang it, the "mug shot" won't load. :(
Oh man I gotta watch Colbert tonight!!
That was bloody hilarious
Ok, I feel much beter now. Stephen didn't steal the shield, it was willed to him by Cap. He was informed of this development by Joe Q himself...by letter.
The shield is in a safe place now. All can rest easy :P
I'm still raging at Marvel over the whole thing. Then I find this little gem from IGN.com.
"'Captain America will continue to be published despite the very real death of Steve Rogers. In May, Captain America #26 will reveal the aftermath of his death, beginning with the autopsy of his body. This is no hoax - Captain America, Steve Rogers, is dead.'"
Why does a man who died from gunshot wounds need to have an autopsy performed?????
For those who missed the Colbert Report you can see the video on Newsarama.
MyndVizion, I believe an autopsy is required after shootings in the real world. Marvel has been trying to make their universe more "real" for a while now.

Totally right, when Kennedy was shot we put two FBI agents in the autopsy room to make sure that no foul play happened or evidence was altered.
Did Colbert say anything about it last night?

This whole thing is one gigantic shame spiral.
Well I was trying to make a funny.
One of the reasons an autopsy is performed on a gunshot victim is not (necessarily) to determine the cause of death, but to determine the number of shooters. This information is helpful in tracking down the weapon and perps.
If Steve really is dead, its not big deal: someone will grab a Cosmic Cube and he'll back amongst the living. I give it six months to a year, if that long, before he comes back.
Oh, and the true story on the shield that Colbert has? It used to belong to Mark Gruenwald. It was hanging in Tom Brevoort's office before it was given to Colbert.
Woot! Captain Colbert, to the rescue.
Anyone agree that he should be the new Cap, rather than Punisher?

Yes, and I really hope someone sends a letter to ask him.
