Title: problems installing Freedom Force on my laptop
Post by: Zivon23 on March 07, 2007, 04:26:45 PM
I try to install  :ff: on my laptop and it says it is not compatable with my version of windows.  Now....as far as tech specs:

Operating System: Windows XP Home Edition
Service Pack 2
System Manufacturer: Dell Computer Corporation
System Model: Inspiron 1100
BIOS: Phoenix ROM BIOS PLUS Version 1.10 A32
Processor: Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU 2.20GHz
Memory: 254MB RAM
Page File: 236MB used, 389MB available
DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c

Same copy of the game works perfect on my desktop computer which has:
Windows XP Professional Edition
System Manufacturer: HP
Older model (not sure the model number)
Memory: 512MB RAM
DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c

I installed it about 4 years ago on the desktop.

The Error window that opens gives me 3 option buttons:  Continue, Cancel, Details
Continue acts like it is continueing to load the game the crashes.
Cancel closes everything.
Details just repeats the original message of Not Compatable with this version of windows.

I know it is not alot of useful info but maybe someone else has had a similar problem in the past and can help.

Thanks in advanced

It does this during the *install*, not just trying to run the game?

The problem is Service Pack 2 (one of the worst things Microsoft has put out since Windows ME).  It essentially cripples a *lot* of software, including Microsoft programs, and all it really does is plug holes that shouldn't have been left in the OS in the first place.

If you can get it installed, you should then get the patches (1.1, 1.2, & 1.3), and install those, as well, before running the game.  I'm not sure if they have to be incremental or if the later ones also include the earlier ones as well.  1.3 is what you'll need for SP 2 compatibility.

well, I tried uninstalling SP2 and 'cleaning' up my computer.  It didn't work.   :ff: still would not load.  Any other suggestions?

Actually, 1.3 contains all previous patches, so that is the only one needed.

You never answered Panther's question about whether this was during the actual install or running the game.  1.3 fixes any XP SP2 conflicts.

I'm sorry....I overlooked Panter's question.  It first did it while I was installing it.  When i rebooted the game, Play and uninstall buttons were selectable.  I selected Play and the screen goes black then the error message comes up.  I hit continue and it acts like is about to work then just shuts down.

{EDIT}  I got it fixed.  All I had to do was download the 1.3patch.  Thanks for all the help guys.  Really appreciated.
