Title: A Clue About History
Post by: BentonGrey on March 05, 2007, 10:28:38 AM
Howdy guys, I'm working on the strings for the Cluemaster, but I find myself woefully unaware of his backstory, and while I could just make one up, I rather like to base my changes in the actual comics versions.   Wikipedia, my usual source for these things, doesn't really have anything on his origins.  Can anyone more familiar with the character than I am help me out?

*whips out the Jul 85 issue of DC Who's Who*

"Little is known of the early life of the man called Cluemanster before he first appeared on the scene in Gotham City, initiating a series of complex robberies in an attempt to learn the secret identities of the Dynamic Duo.  Convinced the very knowledge that they were facing The Batman was a psychological handicap that gave the Masked Manhunter an edge over his foes, the Cluemaster was determined to learn The Batman's true identity so that he could sneak-attack and dispose of The Batman in his civilian guise.
To this end, the Cluemaster taunted The Batman with a series of topsy-turvy clues, while the Cluemaster's henchmen tracked The Batman around the city.
Unfortunately, The Batman deduced his scheme and captured the Cluemaster before he could succeed in discovering the Dark Knight's true identity, throwing in a few misleading clues of his own to throw the Cluemaster forever off the track.
Several years later, the Cluemaster escaped from prison and joind forces with a number of other criminals in an attempt to smother Gotham City beneath a massive crime wave, but once again he was defeated by The Batman and returned to jail."

Thankfully he had less of a history at that point than Clock King (opposite page).  Less typing.  :P
