Title: Neverwinter Nights 2
Post by: Xenolith on February 25, 2007, 06:43:40 PM
I finally, finally finished this game as a lawful good, female, dwarf monk.  There are so many subplots depending on sex, class, race, alignment, etc., that it makes the replay value somewhat higher.  I had gone pretty far with my first character, a male, chaotic evil, half-orc barbarian but I was blowing through it too fast and missing a bunch of side quests.

I'm going to try the evil path again and see what else turns up.  This game is combat heavy, so maybe I'll try a spellcaster...I guess I like punishment.

I'd give it 3.5 out of 5 stars.  I think once the user made content starts coming out this game will be pretty cool.

i'm working through as a CN female teifling warlock, it's a great game, but yeah, there's a lot of side quest stuff that can be easily missed if you don't know what to look for. speaking of which, do you know what the combination is for the Collector's vault, and how to get the object that's in the fireplace? i'm getting tired of blowing myself up.. i know the key to the combo is in the numeric nursury rymes book, but i just can't figure out what it means.. numbers were never my strong point.

The game cost me even more because I had to get a beefier video card. Ultimately, the user-hostile nature of the builder has turned me off entirely, and back to NWN.

One reason I havent picked it up is because several publications said that the game has really major requirements (which my computer can probably meet) but there is no sign as to why it requires all that, that the game looks pretty bad. That and reports of game breaking crashes. I dunno... I'll pick it up latter once the price drops and fans release an unnoficial patch or something.

I would only do the campaign if someone would do it with me online. Since I've struggled to find anyone with the time, its just got itself uninstalled and shelved. Didn't do much for me, I'm afraid.

since doubling my ram, throwing in a shiney new hard drive and upgrading my graphics card @_@ I can run it now, tho i'm still not convinced it's ifferent enough from nwn1 to buy it

Haha, Reep, if I had known that, we could have played together.  The last few months I've had more than a little time on my hands....ha, I wasn't that thrilled with the game either, especially with how much they locked you in during character creation.  I don't really care that in D&D, elves are these colors, and have such and such colored eyes....

whats the dm mode like in this one? would it be feasible to organise an fr meet up / adventure?
(I know modding takes along time, but with a story set in dm mode you could basicly just put the maps together and throw stuff in, then do all the hard work manually in nwn1 :P)
Title: Re: Neverwinter Nights 2
Post by: Reepicheep on February 27, 2007, 12:34:53 PM
I would definately join in with some FR teamup sessions in dm mode. I don't do RPGs for the game, its always the community. Any crap can be made good like that.

Look how Freedom Force ended up for me! :D

I've not actually tried the dm mode, nor any of the construction tools. I can never figure those out, or stay dedicated enough to them to come up with anything nice.

hmmm, I may possibly pick it up next pay day, my main interest would be the mod tools, I was a rather avid scripter back in the world of nwn1 :P

I've got it, played a bit, but then stopped.  Online play with a regular team would motivate me to get back into NWN2 for sure.
Title: Re: Neverwinter Nights 2

if this goes forward we'd need someone to volunteer for dm roles :P
Title: Re: Neverwinter Nights 2
Post by: Reepicheep on February 28, 2007, 11:10:48 AM
I can DM for some times (switching the role between volenteers would be most preferred, I reckon), but given that I currently know nothing of the map making and modding side of things, I don't actually know how easy that is. If someone could send me an outline if they're figured it out and its possible for a relatively stupid person to figure out, or if I actually don't need any knowledge of it, send a shout, will you?

Well I picked it up and I -think- it's close enough to the nwn editor for e to be able to use it
i'll see if I can mock up a city, maybe if it works out i'll try my hand at carradoon and the surrounding areas

Can't we co-op through the campaign?

Let me know bunny-man.  I bought not one - but two computers so I can play this (ok I bought the second one so I can play Second Life), but I would still be interested.

Lets co-op through the campaign once - I quite ike the sound of that. By that time at least a few of us will have figure out how to edit.

We should figure out beforehand whos gonna take which roles and what times we'll do it. Bearing in mind I'm British (and so is UFB, I think) we'll need to figure out a time that suits a range of timezones. Saturday, 5.00-7.00pm GMT for starting suits me best. what about the rest of you.
Title: Re: Neverwinter Nights 2
Post by: BentonGrey on March 01, 2007, 10:28:21 AM
Hmm, GMT?  Not really sure what that is in relation to America's central timezone.  Anyroad, I suppose saturday would probably be best for me.  As far as characters, I'd like to play as either a Paladin or a Ranger, if that's alright with everyone else.
Title: Re: Neverwinter Nights 2
Post by: Tortuga on March 01, 2007, 11:49:59 AM
That would be 10 am -12 pm MST, 11 am - 1 pm CST and 12 pm to 2 pm EST.  That's a possibility for me.

I'd like to play Monk or Warrior, I think.  That is, if I can make it.

I'll call dibs on a Cleric or a Warlord (Warlock? The one with 'war' in front of it), depending on if i feel like playing Reepicheep or someone completely different.

I'd quite like to roleplay, but we can always have a mixture.

Whats the general vote on this? This'll certainly determine what sort of character I'll be playing.

World Time Zone (http://www.worldtimezone.com/) is your friend.

I'd prefer to go with Neutral to Lawful alignment, but I'm only one person.
Title: Re: Neverwinter Nights 2
Post by: BentonGrey on March 02, 2007, 08:50:37 PM
I'd like a mix, if that's okay with everyone.  As far as alignments, well, I usually go for neutral or lawful, but if I'm playing as a paladin....my choice is sorta' made for me.
Title: Re: Neverwinter Nights 2
Post by: UnfluffyBunny on March 03, 2007, 01:04:37 AM
depending on if I think I can get away with it... I may have to go for an evil allignment >_>
(I've had very little experience making chars so far so i'm leaning towards my old nwn1 character who was into necromancy)
Title: Re: Neverwinter Nights 2
Post by: Reepicheep on March 03, 2007, 03:23:56 AM
A combination of both evil/neutral/good can be quite fun for roleplay. The goal of the team is whats important, really and even an evil person (esp. Lawful evil) may have their reasons for wanting to save the world.

I reckon I'll take the cleric role and be lawful good.

Do we wanna set up some sorta voice server or something? Maybe use Xfire or another messenger to stay in contact.

I'm all up for voice if I can get my mic working.

I like doing the fighter/rogue thing. Assassin just isn't fun with the devastating attacks - fights are over too quickly.

I'm in!  Saturday and Sunday are very open for me right now.  If we need a world to play in I'll gladly volunteer my time making areas/scripting dialogue.

If Xenolith is still up for hosting ( ?) are we all good for this tomorrow?

Thats beginning to Co-op through the campaign.

Whos in? Just so we know who to expect and who not to worry so much about.

I'm working tomorrow, so this'll be the alst chance I'll get in terms of communication before we kick off.

You can grab me as Reepimeister on Xfire, for those who have it. I reccomend you all get it, just to make things easier. Its a pretty stable messenger.

Title: Re: Neverwinter Nights 2

i'd like to get in on this myself, but mondays and tuesdays are better for me, since i work from 1 to 9 pm Pacific time the rest of the week. i'm playing single player with a CN tiefling warlock right now, but she's at lvl 13 or 14, last i recall, so i'll prolly start a pally ((paladin for those not used to the lingo)) or mabe aim for a duelist or a weapon master for this. btw, going through the tutorial isn't such a bad thing since it gives you the Harvest cup, cure light wounds 2/day, never gets used up, and if you can beat the Melee, you also get the harvest cloak, wich is, if i recall correctly, a +2 charisma bonus.

oh and reep, if you go to the neverwinter vault, they have a couple of good charecter trainer modules that let you lvl your charecters straight up to the lvl you want, no muss no fuss, though i can understand prefering to play through the starting scenarios to lvl up "legit" too.

Okay, I just finished this game.  I put it on the shelf for almost a year to let them work all the bugs out of it, and I still found it VERY buggy.  Still, I really enjoyed playing it, and I actually got sucked into it.  I really enjoyed being able to be lord of the manor, as it were.  Anyroad, did anyone else notice that the voice acting for this game was RIDICULOUSLY uneven?  You had good voice actors for most of your companions and for a few other characters, but randomly, fairly important instances in the game would have voiceover that sounded like it had been done by some pimple-faced geek in his mother's basement.  What's the deal?  I know this is a game of massive scope, but so was Baldur's Gate II, and they still managed to have impeccable voice acting.  On another, related note, did anyone else think that the ending for good characters was a HUMONGOUS letdown?  Speaking of voice acting, the narration for that part was some of the worst in the game.
So, according to this ending, and what I've read about the new expansion, your companions are just left to die under the fortress while your character is spirited away to the new game?  That's a shame, There were a couple of good characters who deserved to join you again in the new game, like Sand, Khelgar, and Neeshka.  However, Grobnar should stay dead and buried........he's just no Deekin!
All in all, this game was pretty great, with lots to do and see, but it seems like they released it before it was really finished.
