Title: Podmark's skins (Game Over)
Post by: Podmark on February 17, 2007, 01:30:08 AM
Ok so Nimrod is finally released with the debut of my new website (thanks UE!)

http://podmark1.googlepages.com/index

Also available are some previously available skins (Hellion v2, Green Goblins, Buzz and Earth Sentry) and an updated Hellion v1 skin moved to a new skoped mesh to include the spikey hair.

Sorry about the delay on Nimrod. A variety of things slowed down its release included a revelation about removing peices on skoped meshes. On that note, on my current computer I can't run FF2 so the Nimrod nif won't run in it, and can't be converted please let me know.

I have a couple of completed skins that are awaiting the resolution of nif situations (both MC2 characters) and I'm hoping to do a bit of skinning this week as I'm off school.

Enjoy.

Never been a fan of the F5 design but good stuff. Although is it me or does the legs have a touch of green in them.

Maybe a little bit, its just the way the highlight washed out.

Got someone helping me with a hex, then we should see a new preview shortly.

Wow, Nimrod... F5... This is excellent.

I'm crazy about Nimrod. He was one of the characters I was hoping someone would eventually mesh. You have done a great, great job.

What keyframes do I use for that Nimrod mesh?

Should be noted somewhere in the readme or hex readme, but maybe I forgot it, I suggest the IronManGold keyframes from http://tommyboymeshes.freedomforceforever.com/

Tommyboy has a revised Iron Man Gold up now and the keyframes don't work with your Nimrod Hex.  Anyone able to hook me up with the right ones?

You can really use any thv keyframes, however if you want the ironman ones I can email them (assuming I still have them lol).

Mystique in her current look as an X-Man. Might still tweak some things.

Surge meshes have also been released.

Beginning my attempts to bring us the most recent iterations of the X-Universe, Mystique is released. Who's next? Not even I can say for sure, but it's a good bet it will be one of Mystique's teammates (thus ending this blue thing I've had going on...)

I had hoped that whole blue thing I had going would be gone, but technically there's at least some blue in that costume. Nuts lol

It's a positional illusion. I darkened the shadow a bit since they're basically just hanging there. From some angles it looks great, others it looks a bit off. Still I like the effect.

I can't wait to see an updated Cannonball and possibly Cable, Rogue and Sabertooth. I really love Carey's team.
Title: Re: Podmark's skins (Daught of Illusions)
Post by: Podmark on March 19, 2007, 07:53:11 PM
Yeah definitly doing Rogue, Cable, and Omega Sentinel. Sam is getting an update, but I'm pretty happy with that skin so it will mostly be mesh based. Sabretooth....uhhhh maybe... Not a big fan and the design is kinda ugh in my eyes.

I'm also thinking of doing the Beaubier  twins. However I'm currently working on Rockslide's new form, so all these will trickle out slowly.

Yeah I also love Carey's team, but more than that I love Bachelo's designs. I used to hate him as an artist but I've really come to appreciate his work. Ironically Reagan is made up of mostly Ramos ref pics, just because they were the most useful (Ramos on the other hand is one of my least favorite artists). Mystique was all Bachelo ref, I really don't like others take on that costume.
Title: Re: Podmark's skins (Daughter of Illusions)
Post by: Podmark on March 21, 2007, 01:58:27 AM
So on a whim I gave Rockslide a break (theres some issues that I'll bring up later) and started a new skin.

Josh Foley, also known as Elixir, has been through a lot in his young life. Originally a Reaver before learning he himself was a mutant with the power to heal. His parents disowned him and he was forced to come to Xavier's school. Dani Moonstar became his adoptive mother. Then there was this whole affair with Wolfsbane. Fast forward a bit and M-Day comes about, Josh's girlfriend, Wallflower, is taken out by a sniper and Josh kills Stryker in an angry rage, using his powers to kill for the first time, but it sends him into a coma. When he recovers he's taken a new zen approach to life.

There's actually two versions of this skin, the "death hand" shown above, and a spotted version as well.

Elixir and Lady Mastermind are now released.

In the near future I'll probably add my two earlier Elixir skins, likely with smaller sized hexes.

Any plans to do a X-23 or any other of the New X-Men?

Actually I've done the entire first set of costumes for the New X-Men, plus the Hellions and New Mutants, and handfuls of the other students. Some are available in my yahoo group, but the others were on the GPL site that went down, so I'll have to put them back up on my new site.

I'll try to get them up in the next few days if I have time.
Title: Sunfire and Gambit
Post by: Podmark on May 30, 2007, 11:12:26 PM
Due to popular demand Pod skins again!

Famine IV and Death VI
aka
Sunfire and Gambit

I'm really surprised theres a demand for Black Gambit. It wasn't a very popular story, heck I didn't even like it. However I had other reasons to skin these two, more sinister reasons...

black gambit looks awesome, though his hair seems a bit off.  i think it's the lack of bangs, but aside from that, these are two very nifty skins.  ^_^

I agree about the hair but i really would use some different hair, i've always thought that hair was dreadlocks not long hair.
Title: Re: Podmark's skins (Black Gambit and friend)

Ok well the consensus seems to be that Gambit needs new hair. I'll look into that.

Yeah AA I usually think of it as dreadlocks too, but I do like the front few bangs, it gives it a kind of slack/sharp look. Originally I was going to combine two pieces of hair, the gni one and a more traditional longhair. Then I got lazy because Gambit was starting to annoy me with all the little details.

If you're talking about the cut at the waist, I noticed that when I made the preview pic, not sure how I missed it during production. Might've been that the glow made it more noticeable. Either way I'll fix that up before release.

Also a quick commentary on these two looks:
Sunfire - as many of you hopefully know this design was adapted from the Age of Apocalypse design. It's an excellent design, honestly I think it was one of the best things about AoA. I also think it fits well with Shiro's new role as a villain.

Gambit - I didn't actually read Blood of Apocalypse, but everything I've read about it was terrible, and Gambit's role was possibly the worse part. I actually dislike this costume, though it amuses me somewhat as to me it's the visual representation of the whole story. Now you'll probably ask why did you skin him Pod? Well the answer is a simple as looking at the Ramos cover of X-Men 200 X-Men 200 (http://www.newsarama.com/marvelnew/xmen/199/XMEN200_FLCOVa.jpg). But Pod, you ask, Gambit isn't Death in that pic. True, but since That Gambit costume had already been done I thought it would be more enjoyable to skin something that hadn't been done and was related to the current events. And now you know the rest of the story.

You also might have an idea of things to come...

...though not next. Next I'll probably do this (http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y246/podmark/rockslide.gif)

if you find suitable long hair for gambit, let me know: the most recent version of my avatar also needs long hair, and is currently using the same dreads as your Gambit is.

I'm thoroughly amazed at the level of detail of both of your skins, as I was actually rereading that story arc to prepare for X-Men #200 and despite minimally enjoying the story (it really was barely decent), I noticed the ridiculous level of detail with gambit's straps and the black tribal-esque marks on sunfire. Simply amazing, man. Looking forward to their release and a possible Gazer (newest War)?
Title: Re: Podmark's skins (Black Gambit and friend)
Post by: Podmark on June 03, 2007, 05:30:25 PM
Thanks, yeah I didn't realize it was so detailed when I started skinning it.

There's an off-chance I might do Gazer, but it won't be in the near future. I've got a short-list of characters in front of him. There's little Chance I'll do Pestilence (Polaris) but you never know, I might decide to finish off the set.

The reason I did Sunfire and Gambit was because of the upcoming Marauders story. I'm all X-cited for X-Men 200!

I've re-released my first two Rockslide skins. There are no changes to either so if you got them in the past there's no reason to download them now. This reason is a pre-cursor to my next skin preview, coming soon.
Title: Stryker vs Rockslide
Post by: Podmark on June 06, 2007, 11:09:42 PM
New Preview:

On the left side Reverend Stryker. Holy man. Leader. Mutant Hater. Child killer.
On the Right side Santo Vaccarro aka Rockslide. Student. New X-Man. Idiot. And probably the funniest X-character this side of Deadpool.

Stryker was a character I just had to do, taking him and some armed soldiers into the danger room against the New X-Men has been a dream of mine since the Childhood's End arc.

Rockslide has become one of my favorite characters since M-Day. He used to look like the Thing, now he's got his own cool new look. He's a idiot for sure, but I find his comments and actics to be hilarious. He adds a needed touch of humour in what is a very hardcore and action-packed book.

I'd really like some critiques on both these skins. I'm including some pics of Rockslide for comparison. I tried to do my best with the skope but there's only so much I could do with the parts I could think of.

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y246/podmark/RockslideNew.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v441/dracine/NewX.jpg

As for Stryker I'd love to create a version with Nimrod's hand, like this pic:
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/c/cb/Stryker2.PNG
If anyone knows how I can add a male heavy forearm on the suit mesh let me know.

My next skins will probably be a pair of astonishing characters...

Oh wow. I love Rocky! What mesh did you use btw?

About Stryker, the cowl ( think, I mean the purple and yellow thing) although it's got highlights looks pretty flat. Thing is, it will be hard to really change I think. It doesn't help that it's a mirrored mesh but maybe those dangly bits just need some creases.

Also, his cross looks a little flat. It's hard to see from the picture but did you highlight it? Perhaps just a little more bevel or something like that.

All in in, very nice work

Rockslide is a great character, he is quite funny. New X-Men has been really great after HoM ended and that arc with Stryker was one of the best I've read. If anyone hasn't read it, try it out. Back to the skins..... great mesh for rock, the rock texture is also really well done, you nailed him as well as you could without an actual rockslide mesh. Outstanding! that's all I can say.

Hey pod, is the yellow and purple thing on Stryker skinned directly on? Because you could skope the scarf off of pulp_versatile and scale it to fit the mesh.
Title: Re: Podmark's skins (Heeeere's Rocky!)
Post by: Tomato on June 07, 2007, 07:21:34 AM
Hmmm... short of asking someone who knows how to mesh to make a character specific mesh for Rockslide, I think that's as far as you can go. I would see if you could find a piece that would make the brow stick out to the sides a bit more, and darken the spheres on his mouth to match the rest of the skin. Sorry, but right now they look like bizarely shaped drool or something, rather then rock.

Rockslide looks great!   i'm a little surprised that you hadn't grabbed anything off the Doomsday mesh to help him out with the rockyness.   as for the brows... if you take a look at Tommy's Lizard mesh there are seperate brows that you could possibly widen a bit!
wow you did such a great job with his belt and pants too.   i really like how rockslide isn't a complete thing rip off anymore.

as for Stryker!  thats awesome!   can't wait to pummel him.   you may want to add Hellboys hand of doom,  from either texas jack's mesh or jik's,  i believe both are seperate mesh pieces so it would be easy to skope in.

hope the tips help.

They look great, Pod.  Stryker is a cool character - pretty cool that you skinned him.  One question though - I'm assuming they haven't been released yet, because the rockslide on your site is the old one (and I don't see Stryker).  Of course no hurry - just wanted to make you aware in case something got screwed up.

I'm using the Doomsday pieces on the forearms, they're just not visible from the angle in the pic. I'll post another pic later so you can see them.
I'll take a look at that lizard brow, I honestly couldn't think of any meshes where the brows were separate pieces.

See this is why I love the community. I really hope I can get that hand to work. Stryker will make a much better Danger Room opponent with the hand of Nimrod on him.

Not yet, still in preview stage so I can tweak stuff. Might be up next week depending on how quickly I can fix things up. Still have to fix up Gambit and Sunfire as well.

Back to the skins..... great mesh for rock, the rock texture is also really well done, you nailed him as well as you could without an actual rockslide mesh. Outstanding! that's all I can say.

I didn't create the rock texture. I found it online, I think it was on Strangefate's website.

You have no idea how much I've wanted to get myhands on a good mesh and skin for Rockslide's new design, AMAZING work there .
I have only one question though... WHY NO X-23??? :(
Seriously, she's in New X-Men and has no mesh at the moment and could really do with Podmak-ification.

Um you can't have my babies...ya know when I have some....

Ok, back to skinning stuff. I've started getting some of my old skins online, starting with my Thunderbolts stuff due to a request. I'm having difficulty uploading larger files so it's slow going. You can download the uploaded Tbolts stuff at my site. No new stuff, but if you missed out after the GPL site when offline nows your second chance.

And now a new preview!

Armor and powerless-gun-totting Cyclops (that'll be one easy hero file lol).

Armor is a character that I have a true love/hate relationship with. As a character in Astonishing I really like her, but I dislike her when she appears in New X-Men. I've got this thing about non-native students in New X-Men, same thing applies to the X-23, the Cuckoos, Bling etc. I like them, but I don't like the fact that they take screen time from native New X-Men characters like Hellion, Surge, or Anole. It's kinda silly but there it is.

I once made a list of my five favorite X-Men, and of course Cyclops was on it (the others were Archangel, Nightcrawler, Rachel, and Bishop in case your wondering, no particular order). If I'm not mistaken this is the first time I've skinned him so it's a bit of special moment. I was also a big fan of the leather New X-Men look, so there's another special bit.

Up next will be some updates, and then I'm taking a break from the X-world, I was offered a very cool skinning oppurtunity.

She shows up occasionally in New X-Men, mostly just in group shots of the remaining students. A skope for a forcefield would be very cool, but I can really think of where to start.

More great work brother!   i'm really happy to see these two!

for Armor,  i'm not sure if its possible,  but it could probably be done if you adjust the scene root stuff (?maybe?)  i think you could skope the armor form the Shade the changing man mesh by Valandar onto her...   it looks somewhat similar, and it might even bulk up a bit because of the difference in proportions.    I'd love to take a shot at skoping it on a trial mesh,  but unfortunately im away from my pc for a while.

And finally updates:

-Rockslide: added new brows, changed mouth knobs
-Sunfire: fixed waist
-Cyclops: added alphas to jacket, added shade to jacket edges, darkened stubble, added some face details.
-Stryker: added Nimrod hand, added some extra depth to cross, added wrinkles and highlights to scarf-thingy

Let me know what you guys think. If you see anything else that can be improved.

Finding the right hair for Gambit is proving to be difficult. Part of the problem is that parts don't seem to be want to be pasted to the gni mesh I used for Gambit. I think it has to do with the fact that the mesh is french.

If someone wants to skope up an armored Armor, go for it. I'll look forward to the results.

The troubles you're having with the Gambit mesh can easily be overcome by just renaming the necessary nodes before you copy them.

What mesh is Armor on? I'll see if I can whip something up for her armoured form.

everythings looking really good Podmark!

as for the scene principle thing... i always keep forgetting that the e in scene has an accent as well,   so you need to rename both parts for it to work.
also you may want to look at the parent nodes too,  they may be listed in french as well,

I REALLY like how you've softened the edges of Cyke's jacket with alphas,   it gives the jacket more of a puffy look,   like it was in New X-men.

Actually it's not the alphas thats giving the puffy look. I think it's the shadowing on the outer edge.

For the Alpha's I cut the area directly below the front yellow x, which is how the actual jacket is designed. This allows you to see more of the belt. I'm really happy with it.

Ok guys, since no one else seems to notice anymore problems, I'm going to pack up the finished skins and get them uploaded. I'll let you know once they're up. No Gambit just yet. I still have to finish that one off.

Actually yeah, I'm not when I'll get to them, but I really want to put some together. The assassin Risman for sure, and probably the girl with the knife who stabbed Frost, then random guys with different faces. Once I get the base costume done it should be pretty easy to do a bunch, I just need to decide on the base mesh. BTW the Purifers are returning in Messiah Complex.

Are you referring to the lack of links, or are the actual links not working? I'm still in the process of uploading my tbolts stuff so not all the files are linked yet. The reason its taking so long is because I was having upload problems, problems that I think I've now solved.

A note on X-23, she's a tfv hex so her nif is like 3mb, so I've been hoping to skope it to a smaller mesh, but haven't yet gotten around to it. I might just reupload it anyway since there's so much interest.

Even though they are all pink in my viewer, and my Ctool2 doesn't work right, the meshes look awesome as well.  It was hard to tell on the preview pick, but the Doomsday elbow spikes look good too.  I wondered what you were doing with Doomsday pieces that you mentioned...

Quality work as usual, Pod.

I did have 1 question though....  When I look at Cyke, there seems to be a second head floating off in front of him.  Would that be his hallucination...or mine?  :P  If it's Scottie's, then I again applaud your thouroughness.  A built in target for shooting practice.  Huh, who'd a thunk?

ghazkul I'll have to reconstruct some ff1 compatible meshes. My decision to switch to FF2 only was partly due to nifskope considerations as there's certain issues with it that just make it easier to go to FF2.

Reconstruction of the skopes will take some time, and getting them exactly the same will be impossible. I'm really sorry about that. I'll let you know when they are done.

Peerless I'm not sure what you mean by a second heat. The skin preview on my site for Cyclops, the face shot is really blurry because ctool wouldn't zoom in enough because the mesh has ropes. There were some options I could have done to get a better pic but they weren't really worth the time.

My comment was regarding when I viewed Cyke in the NifViewer...there seems to be a second head floating off way in front of him.  I thought it was either something you forgot to remove, a shot at actually animating a built-in hallucination for him, or ... well, I was very tired when I looked.  I'll check it again.  Whatever it is, he looks great!

Title: Re: Podmark's skins (finally releases!)
Post by: Podmark on June 22, 2007, 03:45:25 AM
I'm thinking of reconstructing my X-Men section of my site. There's two ways  I'm thinking going, 1. submenus by character, ie Cannonball, Hellion, Rockslide etc; or 2. submenu by group, ie New Mutants, New X-Men, X-Corps etc. Any opinions? I'm just thinking that as I add more of my older skins and finish new ones the current page is going to get very large and it may become difficult to navigate.

There's one major drawback to submenu by group and thats when characters can go in multiple spots, take for example Cannonball. He's been a member of the Hellfire Club, New Mutants, Hellions, X-Men, X-Force, X-Corp, and X-Treme X-Men; which group would I put him in? I could just put the different costumes in the correct groups but then I have Cannonballs all over the place.

BTW a trivia question. Which character have I skinned the most? And I mean different costumes, not updating an individual skin.
Title: Re: Podmark's skins (finally releases!)
Post by: lugaru on June 22, 2007, 04:03:30 AM
I recomend by team if you want to take that path, it would make things REALLY easy for people who are out to build a team and also if a character wears the same costume in several teams just link to the same image and downloadable zip.

Character you have skinned the most? Without access to your old stuff that is hard but I think you had the 5 or 6 variants on speedball if memory serves me correctly.
Title: Re: Podmark's skins (finally releases!)
Post by: murs47 on June 22, 2007, 06:40:13 AM
I'd say go with sub groups, With characters that have been in multiple groups just put them with the group the pertains to.

I'm also going to say Speedball cause you've got like 8 of them on tommyboy's site.

how many skins do you have in the works?
Title: Re: Podmark's skins (finally releases!)
Post by: Podmark on June 22, 2007, 11:48:28 AM
LOL man  I don't even know my own trivia. I thought Cannonball was my most skinned character. But yes it is Speedball with 7 skins (all available at Tommy's site). Also two of those skins have been updated in the past. I'm pretty sure thats every costume Speedball has worn with the exception of Penance.

The runners-up were Cannonball and Justice both with 6 skins. The Justice skins are all in my Yahoo Group. I'm in the process of creating all new skopes for Cannonballs.

Currently I've created 320 unique skins. Of those I have 9 unreleased original creations, and 5 unreleased skins that have kinda been forgotten. Those Five are Morph (3 versions - need to be updated to Syn's mesh), Firestar (needs to be updated to a new mesh) and Indra (need to skin Armored form).

As for skins currently in the works, I'm currently working on 2 non-Marvel skins. I have the following skopes in some point of development: Cable-current look, Bishop-current, Vulcan cape, Lord Vulcan, Pixie-smaller nif, X-23, Dust, and I just started a series of Cannonballs last night.

New re-releases today: X-23 (3 versions) and Pixie.

No changes to the skins, but the nifs have been changed to much smaller sizes. From 1.4mb to 400k, so I suggest giving them a download even if you have the originals.

lol I don't really have an answer for those questions. I've spent so much time skinning and skoping I haven't actually played the game in a long time.

For preview purposes I was using Gren's male_heavy Darkside keys, but I wouldn't really suggest using those for in-game.

I'm not sure if the X-23 hex will accept many other keyframes, but the Blackwidow ones looked pretty good. They had lots of nice melees which is what you want for X.

Both X and Santo include herofiles but they're not updated to the new meshes, so you'll have to do that manually. The files themselves should probably still be good though.

EDIT: I seem to be in a rerelease mood today as I've just put up an Invincible page with my Atom Eve and Invinble skins due to a request.

Ok so everyone's read X-Men 200 by now right? What? You didn't? You spent your money on the Sinestro Corps Special instead? You traitors! Go to Murs thread you ingrates :P

Anyway I'm releasing Gambit, no change however. I was trying to get into contact with Gni about skoping but so far have heard nothing, so I decided to release him as is. If I get permission in the future, or find another mesh I like I'll probably update him.

I was hoping to have Cable finished when 200 came out but it's a somewhat complicated costume and I'm not quite done yet. I've also been working on some other things as well. Haven't updated Armor yet.

haha...too funny. It was a great week for comics though wasn't it? Mystique betraying the the team seemed so obvious that I overlooked and got caught by surprise...weird huh?

I've been looking forward to this skin, glad it's finally out. The details are just mind boggling with all the little straps and stuff. Anyways...great work Pod

I've been meaning to ask.....which keyframes do you use for you new rockslide mesh? or better yet which keyframes do you recommend?

For whatever it's worth, I used the male_heavy kf's that I also used for the thing_effects version.  They're not terribly diverse, but satisfactory for a "clobberin' time" type character.  Course, I'm only using 2 melee attacks in my hero file, so how many animations do I need?

WIP? Sure why not, I haven't shown anything in a while.

Here's Cable, obviously lots left to do. The skope isn't final, I'm still making tweaks. This is actually one of my favorite skins I've put together, partly because I'm a big fan of Cable in recent years.

This is Tempo, one of the new Acolytes. This one is actually finished I believe. I put her together on the weekend.

And Northstar. I was just working on him today. Still need to finish the face and hair, might change the skope abit too. Aurora will obviously follow.

On the skoping front I haven't really worked on Cannonball lately. Not much to show at this point, but they will be pretty awesome skopes when I get them all done. Been doing some other skopes too, like Exodus and Havok, but I'll show you them once I've started on the skins.

I've been kinda all over the place lately.

looking great man!
what i did for my cable skope was take the eye fx from Ink's Longshot, and put it on Cable... it looks pretty good.

The northstar skin is really clean.  i like the colour palette a lot.

Det is the Longshot eye star shaped? Cable's current eye is just a simple blue glow, not star shaped.

Northstar is on the vxnorthstar mesh...kinda. The actual visible body is the normal vxmale, vx ears and ink's kyle hair. The original body is hidden because it has had pointy ears and the wrong kind of hair, all one piece. Northstar's current look doesn't have the pointy ears for some reason.

The armor is always on. My suggestion for creating a hero file would probably be to create a FFX shapeshifting setup for her. I will be releasing both the armor and no armor versions.

ARMOR IS SO COOL!

man thats sweet!

as for the longshot eye fx.. its just an alpha-enabled plane i think.  so if you design the tga as a kind of alpha-y blurry thing,  it might look like its just pure energy smoldering

what fo you have in mind for an aurora skope?  i could whip one up for you to save time.

Well like I said in the skoping thread I'm looking for something with speedster animations, a running streak and flight streak if possible. Body would probably be the vx female (no heels) and I think I'd prefer Tommy's hair_long_wavy (same hair I used for X-23). That's all I think. Hope it works out. Really I just want a companion mesh to go with vxnorthstar.

Actually Armor wasn't all that tough. The costume design is virtually Kitty Pryde's so I took a look at C6's and AA's skins to see how they handled the mapping so that sped things up considerably. The armor was added by Alphanaut (take a bow Alpha, huge HUGE thanks to Alphanaut!) and I mostly just coloured that in blue, theres some highlight to it but that's about it. Still I'm very happy with how it turned out.

Probably the wrong place to post this but I can't find the other thread where you recommended Invincible.

I went and picked up the Volume. 1 hardcover.....and wow! just a pure joy to read.
What the heck was I thinking ignoring this book for so long?
I'll be running to my local comic shop today to pick up the second volume, maybe even the third.

I think you might like the Kirkman's Ant-Man series. Totally different main character, but still great characterization and a good, fun read as well. Issue 10 just came out, but I guess the series is being canceled after issue 12, not much to catch up on.

Awesome I love when people realize the awesomeness of Invincible!

I've always had an interest in Antman but never managed to pick it up. I was really sad to hear it got cancelled. I should pick up some back issues or a trade, see what if I like it.

BTW always feel free to talk comics in this thread, especially if they relate to skins I've done, past or present.

Most memorable moment for me was when Mark threw out the garbage in issue 1 and finally gained his powers.....and it finally lands in London in issue 5 or 6 I believe! I was literally laughing out loud. It's all the small things that make this book rock.

As for Ant-Man, he's a character that you love to hate......If he was a real person and I met him, I'd probably punch him in the face for good measure. But for some reason I just have to see what happens next, I'm left wanting more after every issue. I really don't understand the cancellation of the series. After Captain America and New X-Men, this is my favorite title.

I don't think the book was selling enough. I read an interview with Kirkman about it and he said something that really is true. The further away a book is from the main stuff (Avengers, X-Men etc), and the big events (Civil War etc) the harder it is for the book to sell. Antman is pretty far, he's a new character with very limited connections to the rest of the Marvel U and the book barely effects the rest of the universe and that makes it harder for people to find the cash for it. Still I've heard nothing but good things about the book and I've liked everything I've read from Kirkman (his Ultimate X-Men was kinda wonky though).

Hmm never thought of adding a toothpick...I wonder where I can find one.

Yeah currently I'm thinking of giving the current Cannonball the Kyle Raynor hair or maybe something from the Speedball meshes. The collar with the metal rivets is probably coming from Syn's Morph.

AA got me motivated again so here's a WIP:
The skin is my M-Day Cannonball from last summer with no alterations, this is really just a skope preview. The skope isn't necessarily finished. I'd like to look for proper boots, I might adjust the collar, there's a possibility I'll change the hair, I've got a couple ideas of how to add a toothpick. The base mesh is Syn's very awesome Nova mesh. I'm hoping to do a series of Cannonball skopes to depict his various diferent costumes.

I want to make skopes for just about everything he's worn, but I probably won't skin them all. I will do updates for my old Cannonball skins though. That's the current one, his X-Force v2 look, First X-Men, Reload, New Mutants, and the B&G costume.

Hate to stray away from Pod's skins, but I guess the thread is kind of inviting. I was wondering about Invincible, I mean I've heard nothing (and I mean nothing) but good things. Seems everyone loves it, and I want to pick up the trades (but can never bring myself to do it), but really, the premise doesn't interest me all that much. I hear so many good things, but from what I know about the storylines and such (which isn't much I guess), it doesn't sound all that interesting. The main characters don't seem all that interesting to me either, but like I said, I haven't read it. What's so great about it? Why is everyone so crazy over it? What might finally convince me to pick up the trades?
Title: Re: Podmark's skins (Cannonballs WIP/Invincible is awesome)

It's all about execution of the story and great characterization. That's why it's so good. The premise, or concept, of the book makes you think "that sounds pretty cliche." But once you read it, it's anything but. The unexpected always seems to happen. I'm sure more people will post their 2 cents on why they love the series as well.

I recently bought the first trade last Saturday, about half way through I realized this series was pure gold. So without finishing it, I went on Sunday(next day) and bought the next trade. I finished both that day.....and came to the conclusion that this is one of the best series I have ever read. Went out the next day and bought everything up to issue #43 (trades and back issues)

At least give it a shot and buy the first trade, that's my recommendation.

I agree with pretty much everything Murs said about Invincible. It's a really engaging book with lots of fun characters. I also happen to love the art as well. The only warning I'd give is that it tends to be exceptionally bloody at times.

Pod,

I'm not sure if you mensioned Cannonball's graduation costume as part of the many hexes you might do for him or not. I think the helmet from Ren's movie Captain Americas might be perfect for that costume.

http://images.wikia.com/marveldatabase/images/thumb/a/a8/Uncannyxmenannual_10.jpg/390px-Uncannyxmenannual_10.jpg (http://images.wikia.com/marveldatabase/images/thumb/a/a8/Uncannyxmenannual_10.jpg/390px-Uncannyxmenannual_10.jpg)

I always thought that the design was good for it's time anyway...never understood why an artist never just updated that look since having a crash helmet actually made sense if his powers got shut off.

- CrimsonQuill

P.S. I've fallen in love with Invincible as well not only for Kirkman's writing but because of how unpredictable the storylines have gone.. it's hardly a typical superhero comic. That's my 2 cents anyway.

Ideally, Crimsonquill, I'm going  to try and skope all of his different looks because I'm a big Sam fan. However I doubt I'll skin all of them, and that one I probably won't because I'm really not a big fan of it. We'll see.

Been busy at work most of this week so no new progress on anything. I'm off tomorrow so I might try to finish Northstar and maybe do some other work. Also I'm working on an Antman skope for Murs.

I was wondering as soon as Marvel started revealing more of the characters if you wanted to team up and skin them all. So far it looks like there's about 10 of them. It probably wouldn't be a while since issue 2 just came out last week, but if you're interested let me know.

Actually I was just thinking the other day that I would love to skin some of these guys. I'm really impressed with the New New Warriors book so far. It really surprised me.

So yeah I could certainly get on board with that. We could probably do Wondra (Jubilee) and maybe Nightthrasher (whoever he is) right now but the others would have to wait for better reference.

The groups that have most interested me in regards to skinning are MC2, New Warriors, Thunderbolts, the X-Universe and from DC Young Justice/Teen Titans.

I don't know if you want to split it up, or we both work on the same skins....never skinned with someone else so I don't know how it goes. I know you've got a bunch of stuff on the table right now with your Cannonballs  and other stuff. So, we can wait if you want, it's all up to you.

I should do some practice, I'm not too good at catching the younger look that you do so well with your skins.

I've worked with Matrix and Afghan Ant in the past and both those times we both worked on each skin. But I was mostly doing bodies with them doing face work and some touchups. Splitting up the characters might be the better way to go in this case.

In other news I've updated my site! A few rereleases, in my new DC page I've added four modern versions of Jade, and in my X-Men section Nightcrawler and 2 versions of Mercury.

4 different Jades....nice.

Whenever you're ready to skin the NW let me know, also, which base skin to use.

EDIT: Young Justice/Teen Titans are something that interest me as well.

Hi, Podmark!

I totally hate to bug you with this because I'm usually able to figure out how to get things to work, but I'm having a hell of a time getting Surge to work with any set of keyframes I try. basically, i can't, and i have no idea why. is there anyplace you can direct me to that has a working set of keyframes for this skope/mesh that works for FF2?
Title: Re: Podmark's skins (Cannonballs WIP/Invincible is awesome)

The New Mutants version of Surge includes the keyframes as it's the complete mesh, the New X-Men version just has the hexed nif. Do you have both?

ha! um, well, um, now i do! (i didn't read the readme as closely as i thought. oops!)

but, to prove i'm not a complete idiot, i finally figured out something: i said, "hey, if one man is going to all the trouble of skinning all of these New X-Men guys, he must really like this book or something."

sooooo...i went and bought the first three trades of the changeover...and read 'em...and wow! you're dead-on about this book! great stuff! so that's why i've been messing around with things you've released a while ago -- i had to catch the hell up!

Marvel just got a new reader on one of their books!

Out of curiosity what's your pull list look like, I want to see what other comic gems I'm missing out on.

My pull list:
Buffy Season 8 (I only recommend if you were a fan of Buffy the Vampire Slayer TV show)
Invincible
Teen Titans (Which I don't recommend at the moment)
Cable and Deadpool
New X-men
Spider-Girl
X-Men

I think that's it. Although I'm picking up the Fantastic Five mini.  I'm seriously considering getting New Warriors, and maybe Avengers the Initiative. I keep a pretty close eye on most of the X-titles and some other books too, looking at online spoilers and preview pages.

What did you have in mind? Something similar to the Deadly Genesis skins we made together, doing costumes and you doing faces and touchups/additions? Or do you want to try something different. Did you want to do updates to Mystique and Lady Mastermind with me?

I just have the hair and the streaks to do on Northstar, then I'd like to finish up Aurora. I'm expecting them to be part of either the new X-Men lineup or Omega Flight at some point in the next 12 months. Actually I'm all but certain Carey wanted them as part of the lineup but I have a feeling they were snatched up by someone else. Also I'm near positive Husk will be part of the new lineup. There you have it my predictions! :D

Anyway I'm working all weekend, and work exhausts Pod, so I'm not expecting much progress. Here's hoping though. Also slowing my skinning work, I'm trying to reread all my Harry Potter books before the new one comes out (on the 21st) I'm just past half way on the Goblet of Fire now. I don't think I'm going to make it :(

Hey, I wasn't sure if I should put this on your thread or soemwhere else, but either way when I load up your new Armor_skope in my CharacterTool I get a "Unable to open character file" message, followed by a "alert: CDataLoader::loadNIF, Unable to load Nif fallback thing" message. I'm sure this is just my problem, nothing to do with your skope/skin, as it also happens with Rev's new Vixen skope, but whats the deal? Anyone else got this? Yeah the problem is that it's already been converted. I made the decision when I started using nifskope to go to FF2-only support, because it's much simpler to nifskope that way.

As it is I can't recreate the full Armor skope myself, because Alphanaut added the shade body to it, and I'm not sure how he set it up.

Sorry.

I just saw the new solicits today, judging by your new avatar so have you. What do you think of the new retro uniforms for the New X-Men? I kind of like them....Hellion looks crazy powerful on that cover.

Is your avatar Prodigy? I can't tell.

I LOVE that cover! I love the new uniforms and I will definitly be skinning them, but I'll be waiting for better ref picks. However I think Hellion without Red just looks wierd.

Yep the av's Prodigy, but I've created avs for all 9 kids and will be switching them every few days. Prodigy is my favorite of the kids so I started with him.

Yeah, that cover is amazing. I really think Skottie Young was born to draw this book. The other artists are great as well, but I think his style is perfect for this book. I think Hellion looks bad expletive on that cover and the lack of red doesn't bother me.

It looks like Pixie made it ^_^ but where's Elixir
Title: Re: Podmark's skins (Cannonballs WIP/Invincible is awesome)
Post by: Podmark on July 17, 2007, 09:37:48 PM
Yeah I am really impressed with Skottie's work. When I first heard he was coming onboard I groaned, but he quickly won me over with his sketches and his attitude toward the book. He really took alot of care imbuing each of the kids with the right look and energy. I honestly believe he was born to draw Anole and Pixie. Too bad his run is almost over.

Look closely at Pixie in the cover and you'll get an idea of what happens to her in the next few issues. And I'm sure Josh is still around, I'm not entirely sure why he isn't on the cover.

QuoteYeah it's given me some serious skinning inspiration.

I suspected it would, I was considering skinning Nehzno but I'm not sure if that was something you were going to eventually get to. My idea was to make a two-pack.....one where he is skinny and calm, and the other where he is ginormous, a face full of rage, and having his tattoos glow.

Just something I've been wanting to do but have held off cause I know how much love you have for the series.
Title: Re: Podmark's skins (Cannonballs WIP/Invincible is awesome)

Thats a very nice sig, I think I will use it :D I'll set it up later tonight.

I'm pretty pumped up to do Vic and Santo, and Pixie too, but I'm really waiting to see them in costume. I'm not big on skinning them in plain clothes. So it might be a while til I actually do skin them.

Same issue with Nezhno, although his costume was kinda shown back in 23. I really like your idea of doing two versions. I won't be getting to him anytime soon so if you want to skin him go ahead.

I'm trying to learn gmax now which I'm going to use to supplement my nifskoping. One thing I want to do sometime in the future is do teen sized skopes for all the kids. I worked out some resizing data a while back with Peerless but I haven't tried it yet.

*kills everyone!*

Oh wait I actually wanted to talk to them....

*brings everyone back to life*

Guys I'll say this again comics, mods, are good to go in my thread as long as they're somewhat related to the topic or me :D

So the idea of a New X-Men mod has really grabbed people's interest. I've actually been thinking about doing one since I installed FFX, but it was really more of a dream rather than an actual plan. I don't know how to scprit, but I looked briefly at EZscript and I think it's something I could probably figure out.

As for characters well I've skinned all of the main cast before so it's certainly possible on that end. Might need to do some villains and a few other characters though. The bigger question would be what kind of missions would you be interested in. Original ones, or missions that follow actual events from the comics? We could easily include the X-Men AA.

I'm not saying I'm definitely commiting to anything yet, but I'm open to talking about it.

*takes off halo and angel wings*

ahhh, feels good to be back

Yeah, you have skinned pretty much everyone......but I'm willing to help skin what you haven't. I'm sure others would be willing to lend a hand as well.

My idea for the mod in the broadest sense would be to start out as the X-Men (Carey's line-up) but the mission goes wrong and you then play as the New X-Men to rescue them. I'm sure one of you will come up with an even better idea I'm just throwing that out there.

What were those advanced humans that lived in the huge boat called? The ones that were after Sabretooth.

I was just on Skottie Young's site and read this about his New X-Men cover:

"Here are my a peek at my latest covers. First up, my farewell cover to New X-men. Issue 43 will be my last issue, so I wanted to see what I could pull off on the last cover. And, I just wouldn't be me if I didn't go out like I came in...with redesigns. I wanted to look like a team visually so I took the costumes of 2 of my favorite incarnations, New Mutants and Generation X, mixed them up and...well you're looking at it."

:( It seriously sounds like the redesigns were just for the cover....but, that doesn't mean they can't be skinned ;) And a New X-Men mod would be the perfect reason to do that. :D
Title: Re: Podmark's skins (New X-Men Mod??)
Post by: Previsionary on July 20, 2007, 08:48:59 PM
I think it would be a good idea to do a mixture of original and comic based missions. That allows for some flexibility/creativity and let's players get a feel of what's in the comic. Just a thought.
Title: Re: Podmark's skins (New X-Men Mod??)
Post by: murs47 on July 21, 2007, 09:05:08 AM
Here's another idea..........Magneto's eventual return is inevitable in the comics one day, but why not have our own original story of his return. Due to mutants current endangered species status, Magneto decides it is now a must to create a new empire and safe haven for mutants(i.e. Asteroid M, Genosha) He sees the New X-Men as an extremely powerful group of mutants, potentially.

He uses his words of wisdom and inspiration to persuade them into following his movement. He could make certain arguments such as:

"Professor X does nothing to help our kind, instead he flys away into space...a coward."

"Sitting around in a mansion will not save our race, the humans will eventually come for you, they will find a way, they always do."

Sorry, those aren't very well thought out quotes but you get what I'm going for.

Eventually the New X-Men find meaning in his words and join his cause. They still adhere to the morals of X-Men such as "no killing" and setting themselves as the good example. But they go out on missions such as destroying Sentinel factories, go face to face with Stryker(again) and his followers by bringing the fight to them instead of waiting for him to strike first.....and of course, eventually a confrontation with the regular X-Men.

Also, Magneto lead the New Mutants at one point so the use of those hybrid New Mutant/Gen. X costumes would be very fitting cause it would have some relative connection.

ehh, I think I typed way too much :banghead:

Title: Re: Podmark's skins (New X-Men Mod??)

Yeah I haven't yet heard that those costumes will be used in New X-Men other than the cover. I hope they are most people seem to like them. I'll still skin them though, they are just too cool not too.

I've got a couple of really nice ideas to recreate some of the actual events of the comics, and I think some original missions would also be good. I especially like the idea of having the Young Avengers and maybe even the Runaways or New Warriors involved (neither of which have been skinned yet).

I'd really like to do a mission where the kids fight the Purifers, and another against Nimrod. I'd also like to try one where you'd have to fight the Marauders. It'd be fun to see how the kids would do against them.

Title: Re: Podmark's skins (New X-Men Mod??)
Post by: Podmark on July 23, 2007, 06:59:13 PM
Well the mod is still not a certain thing at this point. As for which costumes I'm not sure. If I went with the regular ones I could pretty get started now, but otherwise I'd have skin the new looks. Personally I really want to wait and see if the costumes will actually be used to get them accurate. There's pretty much no detail below the knee on the cover and I'd have to guess what Santo and Sooraya are wearing.

We'll see.

I just noticed that Wolfcub and Match aren't on Ramos' cover. Nehzno looks massive....and really cool.

Nope and neither are Blindfold, Loa, Trance, the Cuckoo's, Indra, Bling!, Onyxx, No-Girl, Armor, or Ernst. That's the entire student body.

Post by: murs47 on August 11, 2007, 04:20:24 PM
 I completely forgot about all those characters. Whew.....I was worried Match was going to get whacked. But the reality is you can't have all the characters on the cover.

Is Onyxx still in critical condition?
Title: Re: Podmark's skins (New X-Men Mod??)
Post by: Podmark on August 11, 2007, 04:38:23 PM
Nah, Onyxx is fine, though him and Bling! were considering leaving the school during the Facility arc.

I love Match, if there wasn't so many other great characters ahead of him I'd love to have him on the team.

I'm still waiting for a cover that shows the whole student body on it, that would just be cool.

Well, Podmark, what can I say? I believe I've already told you how much I like your work. Not only because of its quality. But also because you usually skin 2nd or 3rd string characters (some of them, have only been skinned by you).

From Nimrod to Armor, everything is extremely cool. Armor's skope turned you amazingly well in my opinion. Too good to be true. Then, to have Stryker, or new Rockslide in my computer is simply great.

I'm also glad you decided to skin those costumes for more popular characters. For FF, I tend to collect as many costumes as I can from each character. And being a Gambit fan, it's nice to have Death around, even though that plot didn't live up to the expectations. And, finally, I must say that Sunfire is quite stunning.

Keep it up!

Thw new Xmen's new costumes look great, mixing new style characters with classic chararcters. Will you be creating a skin/mesh for Anole, Rockslide's lava form (I know it was only around for a bit but it looked great) or some of the non-New Xmen secod string students?

Just one other small question also, will you be doing any new skins for the Fantastic Five? The new comic book shows some of the new characters besides the ones you have already skinned, the skins are amazing by the way, like the Grimm children, the Human Torch's son and the Invisible Woman's F5 Costume?
Title: Re: Podmark's skins (New X-Men Mod??)
Post by: Podmark on August 16, 2007, 01:57:49 AM
Yeah I definitely want to skin Anole and Rockslide, and I'd like to get more of the secondary cast skinned too.

I'd like to do the rest of the F5 too. Don't really know when I'll find the time right now though.

Hey Pod, what's your opinion of that New X-Men#44 cover by Ramos?
Title: Re: Podmark's skins (New X-Men Mod??)
Post by: Podmark on August 20, 2007, 06:44:46 PM
Well considering Ramos is one of my least favorite artists, I like it. The colour work is fantastic, some of the best I've ever seen. I really dislike his Hellion though, and I'm not big on his Anole, looks too animalish. His Rockslide and X look great though.

Ramos really exaggerated the boots though, I'm not big on that.
Title: Re: Podmark's skins (New X-Men Mod??)
Post by: murs47 on August 20, 2007, 08:09:34 PM
Yeah, Hellion with a little sleeve-less jacket was a bad call. I really like his Gentle, a lot actually. His Pixie is a lot more skinner friendly then Skottie's version...still like Skottie's more though. What do you think of Elixir on that cover? I do like that there's more detail in the boots, but like you, I'm not too big on the size of them.
Title: Re: Podmark's skins (New X-Men Mod??)
Post by: Podmark on August 20, 2007, 10:54:22 PM
Josh looks decent, but it doesn't really look like Josh. It's the face, it's not Josh's face. Actually Ramos didn't really capture any of the characters in their faces.

Well no new skinning news thanks to a combination of lack of time, skinning burnout, and other interests. Additionally I'm going out of town next week and heading back to University the week after, so chances are you won't be seeing much skinning from me for a while.

I apologize to anyone who was looking forward to any of the various characters I've talked about doing, and urge anyone who may have been holding off skinning a character because they were expecting me to do them to go ahead and skin.

Hopefully I'll get back to some skinning in the near future.

Yeah I saw that yesterday. I'm not really a big Finch fan but this pretty good. Not big on the way he drew the boots, or Rockslide, or Anole's arm, but otherwise I like it and it's nice seeing different artists draw the New X-Men. New issue is out next week I think :)

Nothing to report on the skinning front, I'm getting the bug back but my time is kinda limited.
Indra the youngest kid in the place, I figured it was Pixie but I can believe it. It's kinda nice to see him getting some use. Nice revelations on Rockslide, Anole, and Gentle's powers. Predator X is back that ought to be good. And then Nori, geez what's up with that. And what exactly didn't Santo know about Vic?  ;) Young's art took on a Bachelo-esque property in this one, which is ok in my books.
I actually absolutely loved this issue, nothing major happened just a lot of characterization. It was all the small things really. Like Wolverine taking Pixie to the danger room, then later you see him chasing her screaming "$@#%ing unicorns!" Great stuff!

I made a skin!

Nothing special, I just had a skope idea for Riptide and needed dip my toe back into skinning to get my many skopes out. I must have been pretty rusty because this skin was really annoying for such a simple design.

Hey pod, im digging this skin, it looks really nice
2 lil things that are disturbing the nice skin.

1) i am not sure i love his hair, it seems that is makes his forhead so large, doesn't he have bangs or anything? dunno how to express it in english, but it seems werid

2) cape cliping, i know you cannot fix that, i spose its a mesh issue, but it would look better if u skined a portion of the cape on the shoulders, so when it clips you can't really tell, cause you will be seeing the cape skined underneath too.

Aside from thoose 2 tiny issues i loooove your skin man

Title: Re: Podmark's skins (Let the Exodus begin)

Yeah I hear ya on both of those. I really like the hair with the exception of the forehead issue. I'm going to look into some possible solutions to that.

Since I took that pic the cape clipping has bugged me. I'm going to look into skinning the shoulder, it may or may not be a reasonable solution, it depends on how the mesh moves. I have to check it out.

For the hair, short of skoping some bangs, try adding shadow under the hair. It should break up the forehead nicely.

Title: Re: Podmark's skins (Let the Exodus begin)
Post by: Podmark on October 13, 2007, 01:25:42 PM
I've repositioned the hair on exodus and it's better. I'm going to add a shadow and if necessary I might try some different eyebrows and all that should take away the forehead issue. No pic but it looks much better with the repositioned hair.

Exodus is an odd character as he's sometimes portrayed as ridiculously powerful and other times he kinda sucks. His abilities are to drain psychic energy and lifeforce from others to give himself enhanced strength, speed, reflexes, flight, telepathy, telekinies, energy beams...and probably a couple of things I'm forgetting.

I'm positive Riptide has been done before, along with the rest of the original Marauders. I did Riptide because I had a good skope idea (it's based on Tom's Red Tornado). There's a chance I might do a couple more Marauders if the mood strikes me.

Thanks Pod. Poor little Julian...all those holes at once looks like it equals = instant death.

What are your thoughts on which X-Man gets killed? Even before I saw the pic of Nightcrawler in the snow, I had a feeling he would be getting offed. He just seems to be the least most interesting X-Men at this point in time.
Title: Re: Podmark's skins (Let the Exodus begin)
Post by: Podmark on October 21, 2007, 12:33:02 AM
Won't be Nightcrawler. If it was going to be him they wouldn't have shown a preview pic of it. He'll get hurt but he won't die. I'm kinda leaning on Bishop and Archangel (2 of my favorite X-men, actually Kurt is too...I'm not doing well here). I could see Caliban or Hepzibah going too, but they're rumored to be in the new X-Force. Maybe Charles but I doubt it. And a last possibility: Cyclops (my favorite X-man).

There's no confirmation at this point but it's expected that the Astonishing arc ends before Messiah Complex, and Kitty hasn't been seen yet in MC previews. Someone from the Astonishing trip to space isn't coming back and so the suspicion is that it's Kitty. If Kitty is gone, I could see Colossus going.

Without Cyclops, there is no X-Men. So yeah, he's my favorite as well. I don't think Marvel will kill him.
But, you're right about Kitty; I haven't seen her in any previews as well. I could see Marvel taking out Bishop, but Angel, no. I just feel a lot can be done with Warren.

Haven't done anything with it since I showed you. Was there anything really missing or needed improvement? I need to take a close look at the new designs.

I'm going to choose one design Ramos or Young. I prefer the Young version, but the Ramos one is going to be used more so I haven't decided yet. I'll be doing two Surges because she changes her shirt in the next issue. Might do two Hellions one with and one without the jacket. Hopefully I'll get started this weekend.

In other news I made a Mercury skope the other day. It's based on TJ's symbiote mesh so it has morphing weapons :D

QuoteIn other news I made a Mercury skope the other day. It's based on TJ's symbiote mesh so it has morphing weapons biggrin

Sweet! ^_^ That'll be cool looking, especially in-game.

For the Purifier skope that you showed me, I think it just needed a little more clothing to the upper body so it looks more like a robe (or whatever it's called) and a hood.

The original design didn't have a hood, so I'll make a second version :D Have to find some baggy clothing somewhere....

I'd probably go with the Ramos one as well. I like how he adds slight variations to each character's uniform.

I love that pinup. If you want one like that I could give that a try. But I don't think they're using that exact design in the books. I'll be making hood version  though.

It always amuses me how we have these long discussions in my skins thread :P

Sorry about that Pod. Completely unintentional. I got a bit carried away. Thankfully I kept it on the topic of your skins though.

QuoteBut I don't think they're using that exact design in the books.

Yeah, I just like how it blends their design in the MC one-shot with the their design in the last two issues New X-Men.

I need to start using the PM feature a little more

This is the last year, sadly. Actually I only got into over the last year, borrowed some DVDs and was totally hooked. I now sometimes do the whole gaze off into space and comeback with some random comment thing for fun.

I got into about 2 years ago the same way. My old manager invited me over some beers and he stuck on the season 1 dvd and it was automatic

I think the crew is just packing it in. I know ratings have dropped so I think they want to get out while they still have an audience.

Anyway Scrubs aside, here's an actual preview! In my thread! It's a miracle!

This is my prototype for the New X-Men's new uniforms (which I believe were created to make things easier on the artists in the crossover). The design is entirely based on Young's art, I might change it, might not. Course I started with David because he's my favorite...even if he may be going evil :(
Title: Re: Podmark's skins (New X-Men teaser)
Post by: murs47 on November 01, 2007, 10:39:14 PM
An actual preview! :o

That is looking good. I like how the gauntlets and boots aren't overwhelming like Ramos' and they're a dead on for Skottie's design. The only thing that slightly irks me are the kneepads. They seem a bit too rectangular, narrow, and long. But it looks good so far.

David go evil? Could be interesting. I think he's just going through a bad break up though. Poor little fella.

Title: Re: Podmark's skins (New X-Men teaser)
Post by: Podmark on November 01, 2007, 10:57:51 PM
Yeah kneepads look a little long. I'll double check but I think the knee pads are supposed to be rectangular. I've got a couple of changes in mind but this is probably pretty close to done.

The thing about David, in 43 Kitty is talking about Josh and saying that he might be the next Magneto but the panel shows David looking in on Nori and it looks a bit creepy. He's got all his skills now and back during Academy X he saw a potential future that ended with him as a villain. There's a lot of speculation right now that that may happen now.

Yup, I'd say it's pretty close to done.

I remember that story about David. He was almost Lex Luthor like.

i'll poke my head in here, since you guys are joking about other folks never posting in this thread!

just wanted to say, "thanks again," Podmark, for your efforts/dedication to New X-Men. again, i started reading it because you were so bullish on it, and it is easily one of my favorite books to read each month.

i picked up all the trades from the changeover to New X-Men, and now i'm getting the singles.

i think it's great how you've kept up with the multiple costume changes the group has had in such a short time. needless to say, i'm fairly excited about the possibility of seeing some Purifiers one day, if/when you ever get around to it! (i saw the picture up higher in the thread.)

How about silver age x-men and their foes?  That would be very cool.
Title: Re: Podmark's skins (New X-Men teaser)
Post by: Previsionary on November 10, 2007, 06:56:57 PM
speaking of X-foes, I would love if you (or anyone for that matter) could skin the costumes of the rarely used foes such as Unus and Vanisher (and his several costumes). I think that was one of the major problems I had with my OG X-men mod. *shrugs* just a suggestion.
Title: Re: Podmark's skins (New X-Men teaser)
Post by: Podmark on November 10, 2007, 07:11:05 PM
I actually have Unus on a to skin list somewhere, but my skinning time is very limited so I probably won't be getting to him anytime soon.

One thing with my skinning is I generally try to follow 3 rules: 1) The character hasn't been done before, 2) If it has my version brings something new to the table (ie newer mesh etc), 3) or I just really want to skin the character or I'm doing a set that it fits in. The vast majority of silver age characters have been done by other skinners so I tend to do newer characters and costumes.

The Purifiers is likely to be done by Murs rather than me.

Ok guys I've got some bad news. Some of you may remember that I've had computer problems for the past year. A quick summary: my good computer went down with an unknown problem that I was never able to figure out, and now my current computer, an almost decade old machine with fan problems has died. So I no longer have a computer, and I currently don't have the funds to fix them or get a new machine. As an additional problem I'm fairly sure I knocked out my hard drive in the process, meaning I've lost all my psds and files. So it looks like this is the end of my skinning career.

I had a good run. I don't have my records to check but I finished over 200 skins and learned alot about graphics in the process. Maybe in the future when money isn't so tight I'll be able to return, but I'm not sure when that will be.

I'd like to thank a few people in particular; Unsung Weezer especially for designing my av, Afghan Ant esp for our collaborations, Next Legend for being a good friend, Ultimate Evil esp for helping me find my most recent hosting, Matrix esp for our collaborations, Paradox for his base, Murs for turning this thread into an odd hybrid of skins and discussion, and of course C6 for being a constant inspiration. Also those who have hosted my work, Hellscorp and Death_head (I think that was his name been a long time) at Villains Reborn, Volt and ElectricFreedom for considering me as a memeber, Nightdragon and Dragon Force, Randy, Mike and everyone at the GPL. Also the many meshers who've taken my requests or I've worked with; Beyonder, Texas Jack, Bobby69/Vertex, Tommyboy, Renegade. I'm sure I'm missing some people. And of course those of you who have taken the time to check out my skins.

It's been fun,
Pod
