Well, I can't really remember everything I posted, but I'll try. Hopefully everyone will sign back up. I think there were ten when the posts were purged.
1) Sign up by declaring the character you intend to use as your art subject. (It must be a character not previously named in this thread, so name it before someone else does!)
2) On Feb 1st I will randomly create assignments for each participant from a list. They will be such things as genderbender, Ultimate, pirate, etc. (No one will have the same assignment.)
3) Start posting as soon as your image is done.
This challenge ends on the 28th. If you want join this challenge anytime in Feb., PM me so I don't miss your post. (You can even sign up again if you did your first pic and want another go.) After Feb 28th, I will not give out assignments.
Rules:
1) It must be your art. No editing of other people's art. (This includes recolors, collages, sprite edits, etc.)
2) Nothing from Freedom Force or City of Heroes/Villains. (Both have their own sections on FR.)
3) Although technically not a work in progress thread, you can update the image in your post at any time.
4) Forum rules still govern subject matter.
Remember this is open to artists of all levels and all styles!

Corresponding list of assignments:
(All assignments were determined by random drawing. Note: The description provided is only meant to explain the assignment title.)
1) Horror: Your character has been or is transformed into a creature of darkness.
2) Western: Your character came to be during the height of the Old West.
3) Ultimate: Reimagined for a gritty modern world. This isn't your 616 kind of hero!
4) Child: Any age from baby to teenager. Your character started his adventures at an earlier age.
5) Pirate: Forget modern times, your character existed durring the age of pirates.
6) Post-Apocalypse: Some sort of disaster has ruined the world. Despite that, your character continues to survive. Conversely, perhaps the character came into being in this harsh new world instead.
7) Alignment Swap: Good becomes evil. Evil becomes good. What would your character be like if he played for an opposing team?
8) Movie: Due to the success of a related comic character's movie, you've been given the task of redesigning this character for a mainstream movie audience.
9) Medieval Fantasy: Dungeons & Dragons, Lord of the Rings, Warcraft, etc. You know the drill. The character exists in a medieval world of magic & monsters.

I dunno, I think Glitchie has a pretty easy ride with the X-baby, Horror-Hulk and Apocalypse Doom aren't too far fetched for either of them (just think if Hulk had gotten Western or Pirate!). I really want to see what comes out for Iceman & Red Tornado. And why do I forsee Rev drawing patent-leather, open-toed, high-heeled boots?
Oooooh, evil Iceman... this sounds like it could be a good time....

Why do I sense a pair of wooden stilts in the near future? :P
Pfft. Guess it's a good thing I started doodling today...

I'm liking that first one. Reminds me of a space suit. Have you thought of his Ultimate origin?
That's not a bubble helmet - that's the collar behind his head.
I've done a few doodles trying to come up with something that says "ultimate", but I can't really put him in leather, and he has no use for storage pouches strapped across his chest... then again, neither did Cyclops...
Well... I completed a sort of Flash Gordon/Captain Harlock inspired Red Tornado (The Robot Who Thinks Like A Man), but I don't know if this will be the final design. I'll have to toy around with this more. I am looking forward to all the drawings though. This was an excellent idea for an artistic challenge.
Ta-daaaa!
Behold the glory of Ultimate Stilt-Man!
Okay, so it looks a lot like regular Stilt-Man - you can't mess with the classics, man!!!!
The only real changes I made were to get rid of the antennae on his earpieces, swap the wrist blaster for a heavier firearm, and change how the stilts work.
In regular continuity the stilts look to be solid metal, presumably sliding inside each other somehow when not extended (which makes no sense considering they all appear to be the same diameter). In this version, Wilbur Day has lost his legs due to (let your imagination run rampant), and while developing prosthetic replacements, he kinda went a little overboard and made a full suit of armour.
The stilts themselves are individual sections held together (or extended) via magnetic force, which of course means that dear old Wilbur shouldn't stand too close to Magneto, Polaris, or a computer monitor.
BONUS: Gdaygirl wanted to colour in, so I gave her the original drawing to work on. Next thing you know we have a beautifully coloured Stilt-Man hanging out with his good buddy, Spider-Man.

Like how you handled the legs there. That's a cool idea having them being held together with magentism.

I would have fully rendered that pic but my Wacom isn't working properly for some reason. :(

 LOL, wondering how a derivative character of a derivative character was going to work. Nicely done!
hee hee, I love the eyepatch on the nose ^_^
my pics currently gone through 3 concepts... and been scrapped 3 times @_@ once I have a finished piece i'll post up the concepts in my art thread for people to laugh at :P
Magenetic legs. It makes a lot more sense than the sliding metal comic characters always seem to have. Plus an adorible fat Spider-Man..
And Captain Spider-Ham is looking good, too. Very crisp. The nose patch is hilarious.
Time to edit... With a picture!

I was going to do a spaceship in the background and some promo style text, but now I am all super busy. Maybe I'll toss it up later still, though. But there you go!
I suppose I will add some background, though...
He is a hyper-humanoid android. In the future there are numerous androids who are placed in low level jobs. Workers and such look very mechanical, but in the service industry they look almost indistinguishable from humans, save one thing. They cannot show emotion. Sure, they can be programed with facial expressions, but they are missing that spark.
This paticular android was different. There was an accident on his assembly line. Many workers were killed. Unbeknownst to anybody, their life force was fused with this android body. When it finally awoke it was something other than a mindless servant. It wanted to live, to feel. All the corporations wanted was to study it. See how they could a) bring it under their control and b) reproduce these effects on other androids.
The android took off. Insert an amazing tail of hiding out from the corporation, eventually hooking up with a bunch of space pirates, donning his red helmet as a disguise, and gaining the fastest ship this side of Alpha Centauri... the mighty Red Tornado!
Haha, I love that flowing cape, and that 'T' symbol! Great work Unko! I also love that Spider Ham, quite awesome MJB.
Great Job, Unkoman!

challenge delivered: medival wonderman!
upon finding a sword on an ancient battlefield, lowly serf Simon of William was empowered by a preternatural purple energy that granted him flight, superhuman strength and immortality. Using his newfound abilities he conquered the globe, uniting all the kingdoms of man under his banner of justice.
Wow......that's actually pretty awesome. It just radiates raw power. Very cool man.
Holy crap! And the thing is... if that were a comic, I would actually read it.
But seriously, that looks sweet!
Whoa. Nice job Carravaggio.
-MJB
Car that's totally amazing! That's definitely a portfolio piece. The line work, the textures, the color all work well.. i like the subtle highlights.
grrr, right now i'm in the middle of an eternal torrent of crap, 7 concepts down -_-
meh I'm finding my assignment a real challenge, I've got quite a few ideas though drawing them proved to be quite hard, I'm not giving up though, since this is after all an Artistic Challenge, we'll see ;)
Mmkay, so I imagined, what if Iceman were an evil soulless corporate jerk?
Tada...

Is that a fruedian slip, or does that hug over in General Topics indicate something about our favorite Aussie that his wife might rather not know? ("Not that there's anything
wrong with that.")
And cool stuff CM!
Whatchu talkin' 'bout, Willis???
ROFL!! Apologies to the worlds sexiest Astrailian clone buster who resides in Canada.
-MJB
*sniff*
:(
Don't cry Spud. You are the sexiest potato powered Canadian alive.
-MJB
And with the new av, Spud, this little thread jack has been elevated to whole new levels of wrong . . .
:tmi
I think in that chain of TMI, there was a compliment somewhere... if there was, um, thanks? ^_^
-CM
Wow, some really nice work from everyone! Kudos to you all.
I only wish I could draw some so I could participate. My stick figures are crap compared to everyone's work here.
Stick figures are more than welcome.
-MJB
Ye Gads! One more day to submit something!!!
Wow, I was over at my mom's this weekend and was going through some old things, and look at the old book I found! I used to love this story, it was all about how being differnt wasn't bad, it made you special and stuff like that but it was still a great little kids book.
Any of you guys remember this?
Okay so I BARELY got this one in under the wire (which is why I'm not entering the other one, don't think I'd have time to finish it.) NC as child/baby is almost too obvious what with Xmen Evolution and Bamf both out there. Still this was was kinda fun to do and somehow, during the drawing process I got the idea of turning Baby Kurt's adventures into a Little Golden Book type story. I shoulda distrsseed it more, but I couldn't get bends and cracks in the cover to look right so I had to go a little more pristine than I wanted. Took me FOREVER to get the hands right. BTW: here's the artwork without all the crud and branding (http://www.stkp.com/li-kurtcover-orig.jpg)
EDIT: ARGH! and after all that, I somehow moved the reflections on the balloons and now the look weird. Will fix later)
Truely, an masterpiece of children's lit! Not as good as the Tawny, Scrawny Lion, mind you, but probably my second favorite!
(ROFL! Awesome GG!)
AArgh sorry this is late everybody. I was never one to meet a deadline. I give you the movie Huntress, which is also like a dream come true for me. I did cheat in that I used a drawing of my own, but altered the costume, and background. I ran it through a few filters to give it that gritty, Batman Begins feel. Thanks Blkcasanova for the idea of using a trenchcoat, I love the way it turned out, and for casting her in the image of Punisher... I never thought of Huntress that way but it works. I couldn't let go of the crossbow though; it's her signature weapon. (She has a glock under the trenchcoat too.) I wanted to distance the costume from the Birds of Prey TV show as well as Batman Begins, so I added some protective goggles... they're scary ones though, with an angry, glowing yellow stare.
And for the Bat-Philes out there, yes that is the Batman Forever Font. Like the font; the movie, not so much.
Nice! :D I love the feel of the peice! It's got a lot of atmosphere to it.
These look wonderful! I really love Wonderman and Lil' Kurt.
Gah, I didnt make it in the month, so far all my concepts i've thrown out ¬_¬ I -WILL- get something done soon tho >_<
No worries. I haven't finished mine either.
Just a friendly "bump" because I want to see the rest of these. :)
