Post by: Sioux City Dynamo on June 01, 2008, 02:19:10 PM
Hi everyone,

I am trying to make the move from long time lurker (I have been around a long time.... :() to part time contributor.

With that in mind, I would appreciate any thoughts or suggestions anyone might have on these characters:

Sweet. Somebody else did the old Daredevil.
These are some nice first skins. I love the use of googleplex's base on a lot of stuff. That is googleplex's right?

But, yeah, nice work. Hope to see more from you.

hi everyone,

thank you for the kind words.  yes that is googleplex's costume base.  i really like the base and i currently have no talent for how to make costumes.  i used his muscular base for samson but utilized c6 bases for the skin tone portions of the other characters.

Excellent job on these. I 'd like to get these too. Put me on the list.
Black Terror and Samson are my favorites.
I had always though Americommando was red and blue. You have him orange..or at least that is what I am seeing. Is he orange and blue?

The Crusaders turn the heat up on the Axis as Fireball and Sparky join the fight (I had to photoshop the flames on as when I tried to capture a picture from the ctool the flames would not stand out visible :()

http://photoshack.com/index.php?cat=17053

Hi Avalon,

I am working from the one and only reference picture I could find of the group.  It has Americommando in an orange and blue uniform and Fireball/Sparky in pink and orange with pink and orange flames.  Go figure, but I believe they look neat anyway.

Also, as soon as I actually figure out how to release some of these I will.  I have never set up a yahoo group before.

Hi everyone,

Back again with another character.

This time, "When my lantern shines upon a grave, those who lie beneath can arise and walk--One Final Time--to seek Justice against those who have wronged them!"

http://photoshack.com/index.php?cat=17053

I could not find a lantern in the same style as the character.....so I had to get a little creative....I think it turned out alright..... :)

Have you considered Googlepages as a host for your files? its free, easy to use and has a fair bit of space. Best of all, no advertising!

That's the Green Lantern from the "tangent" universe. I think that was what it was called, anyhow. It was basically just a bunch of stories about characters who happened to share the same names with mainstream DC folks, as far as I know. I read some things with the Joker (a female vigilante) that were alright, but that's it.

Hi everyone,

Unkoman is right.  That is the DC Tangent Universe Green Lantern.  I always liked the Tangent characters.  They have been revived after 52 and are featured in the new Superman's Reign.  I plan to make all of them and have started scopes.  The skirt is not quite right for the GL but it will do for now.

As far as releasing these characters, I do not really know how to do that....any advice/direction someone could give would be most appreciated.

Very cool. Having just set up a yahoo group myself, it's not hard. It just involves a lot of link exploration after it's been created to set the permissions of everything that you want. (Such as letting members download but not upload, etc.)  If you need any help, just ask.  People on here are awesome about helping when it comes to anything.   :D

Also, in your zip files of the skins, have a text file stating details such as mesh they go with and make sure to give credit to the mesh and/or original skin designer etc you based them off of, if any.  You probably knew that, but just making sure.  Also, some of the designers prefer to be asked permission to use their skin bases, so keep that in mind.

(For the record, if anyone wants to use my (few) skins to create their own stuff, they are free to. )

I need something to knock around in the rumble room. With that in mind, I pulled together an American Crusader from Project Super Heros.  The googles are not quite right but believe they came out pretty good.

You should try using Vertex vx3r Human torch2 Mesh...it has a lot more fire. You can scale it down for Sparky:

Hi everyone,

Sorry about the bad photo hosting site.  I will see about making the change to something different.

Avalon,

Thank you so much for the reference pictures of the Crusaders. The top one is the one I was working from.  Funny enough my eyedropper picked up Americommando's costume color as orangeish.....While your other two reference pictures clearly show his costume as red.  Sometime, I may update his skin to be more in line with the last reference picture you provided.

Also, for Fireball I utilized Gren's Male_Basic_Fx and for Sparky I utilized Male_16 and scoped the FX from Male_Basic_FX to provide flame.   They look great in game but I could not get the flames to stand out well in the character tool for the promo picture. That is why I photoshoped some flames in.

I got a suggestion: post them on a website/yahoo group for download.

They're way too many alternatives to yahoo these days that don't require the "potential downloader" to sign up to keep fooling with them. Mediafire allows the owner of the space to host entire folders for the public and they're several sites like mediafire, but with a search function. If ya want a simple site, Googlepages/Google sites is the way to go if you plan to stay beneath 100 files. Just some suggestions.

On your skins, I think they're pretty good and really help fill out some of the missing characters we haven't seen skinned. So, keep up the good work, yo.

Hi everyone,

From the mind of my six year old, my first origional character:  Johnny Franklin was a normal first grader who idolized Godzilla.  One day while playing he stumbled upon a group of insectoid alien's (Davorakk) focused on taking over the world.  Before Johnny could get away and warn anyone of the impending plot he was captured and thrown into a volcano.  Lucky for Johnny as he plumeted into the hot lava he was struck by a strange ray (energy X).  Somehow the combination of the strange ray, hot lava and his knowledge of Godzilla he was transformed into a boy sized version of the titanic monster.  Emerging from the lava as Godzilla Boy, Johnny used his powers to foil the alien plot, defeat their champions and send them fleeing back to the stars.  Johnny continues to guard the earth against all threats as GODZILLA BOY!!

Hi everyone,

Back with a couple of new skins and hexs.

First:  From the mind of my seven year old, my second origional character:  Liam Robert has always been facinated with construction equipment and loves to look at and watch heavy equipment work.  One evening while walking through a construction site he noticed a strange object partially uncovered as a result of some recent bulldozing.  As Liam grew nearer to the object it began to glow brighter and brighter.  As Liam bent over to pick up the object it suddenly flashed extremely bright and then went dim.  Later, Liam learned that he was now able to accelerate to incredible speeds.  In fact, when concentrating on his powers Liam's body moves so fast that he appears as a constant blur and the friction associated with the speed of his movements produces a intermittent shoud of flame that radiates from the surface of his skin.  Interestingly, somehow Liam's skin has become extremely resistant to heat and fire.  Now endowed with powers far beyond those of other seven year old boys, Liam fights a never ending
battle for truth, justice and the American way as FLASHFIRE!

                                            and

From the mind of my eight year old, my third origional character:  One day while playing football with his friends, Dominick found himself and his friends caught in a powerful thunderstorm that sprung up unexpectantly.  All the boys scurried quickly for their homes.  While Dominick road his bike toward home he was struck by a lightning bolt.  Through some miracle, Dominick found himself uninjured by the blast but charged with electricity.  Dominick learned that he now had the ability to generate, store and control electricity.  With his new found powers, Dominick named himself Lightningstrike and together with his bothers (Flashfire and Godzillaboy) formed the pre-teen super team the Dyna-mites!

As separates these guys are interesting but do they really work as a group? Godzilla Boy really stands out from the other two. He has these jeweled bracelets and golden accessories. While the other two are sporting spandex. Them being related makes it even more disjointed.

I don't know, I think they could work, with him as the disjointed element of the group, something along the lines of The Thing, or Rex from Astro City's First Family.  It could help if you gave them some similar elements in their costumes, but their looks are so cool that it would just about be a shame to mess with the designs.  Very nice work SCD!

Thank you for the feedback on the characters.  I tried my hardest to follow what the kids had in mind for their characters.  That being said, I thought they were pretty cool but did not give much thought to how they work as a group.

I would appreciate any suggestions on how these could be better and how to establish an improved flow for other teams as I have plenty of characters from my old V&V days that I would like to bring into FFvsTTR.

Hey SCD! I like your new skins! Very cool!

Looks like you're trying to make a "Spoiler Thing." Here's what you need to do:

- Place {img} and {/img} (but with [ ] instead of { }) around the address for the picture.
- Place {spoiler} and {/spoiler} (again, with [ ] instead of { }) at the beginning and the end of what you want... spoilered?

It would look like this:
Hope this helps, and keep up the good skinning work, man!

I was thinking how the Power Princess with the fist logo was never created and bam: she's created.

Great job, man!

My very first comic book was a Defenders issue where the Defenders fought the Squadron Supreme, so that's the iteration of Power Princess I will always prefer. I should get a whole Defenders vs SS with Overmind looking things over in the Rumble Room now.

Looking foward to your releases.

Very cool Dynamo. The only critique that I'll give you is for the helmet. The eyes need to be fixed (they're a little too big and kind of look like just a "sploch" and I'd either have a definitive "line" down the center for the "nose" or I'd change the helmet maybe to Vertex's Dr.Fate half helm. ;) Just my two cents.
