Classic comics on TV
« on: October 07, 2021, 01:32:21 AM »
This might be a long-shot, but I've been surprised by people's knowledge here before.  Back in the early days of cable TV, one of channels we had (West coast) would occasionally have a show where they would narrate classic DC comic books.  It was where I first got introduced to Space Cabbie, Star Hawkins, Space Ranger, Ultra the Multi-Alien, and even Sugar & Spike.  They also had the first couple issues of Green Lantern (Hal).  The "theme" song they used for the intro was Wagner's Ride of the Valkyries.

I can't remember what it was called (and could never find it reliably), but I'd like to see if it's available anywhere currently.  The typical Google searches didn't get me anywhere even close, so I thought it was time to increase my brain power.  So, does this even sound familiar to anyone?

I remember that show. I think it was on Nickelodeon (PBS for me in Wenatchee WA).
Is this what you're referring to?

Thank you Chuckles, it seems like that was exactly what I was looking for, but I don't recall it being attached to Nickelodeon at the time.  I'm not even sure when we got that channel in our line-up.  I feel like I would have remembered the channel if it was Nick, but it seemed to be on some random "local" cable channel (hence my not ever being able to remember what channel it was on, even then).

For anyone that's interested, here are the direct YouTube links for the only three Video Comic stories that seem to have been posted.  I really wish more were available.

Neat!  I've heard of these but have never seen them!  I love that they did Hawkman and all things!  It's only slightly less animated than the classic Marvel 60s 'toons.  :D
