I'm still alive...
« on: July 21, 2021, 04:39:38 AM »
.....but not posting in a while is NOT my fault.

My last post was in September of last year. For some reason, something went wrong, I got logged out, couldn't log back in, and resetting the password did. not. work. I never received the e-mail to reset it! Could not contact anyone to get the problem resolved, so I just kept trying and gave up for a while. Tried again several times over the months, and just recently the password reset finally actually worked!

So if anyone sees me replying to old posts, which I was able to read but not reply to, that's why.

Update on me:

My father passed away in December. He had been under hospice care since late September, and received a military funeral as he was in the Air Force when younger. (He was cremated)

The entire household went on vacation to visit my in-laws in New Hampshire late June. Since we returned, we now have four dogs in the house as opposed to two we had before we went up there. (No, we did NOT get the new ones in NH.) The two new ones are a German Shepard/Norwegian Elkhound mix. They're actual brother and sister, and are AKC registered.

I'm very busy most days, as my wife Heidi and I have been doing DoorDash since February. She does the driving and helps if we're making a Walmart grocery delivery. Otherwise I do all the actual pickups and delivery drop offs. My stepson fills in as the driver occasionally. (If KRNut82 reads this, that's why I haven't called you on the phone in ages.) Most of the money goes toward household bills, unfortunately, so I'm not exactly raking in the cash.

Heidi is currently in Seattle, Washington along with her daughter and mother. Jasmine (her daughter, my stepdaughter) is in the Army, stationed at Fort Lewis. She bought airline tickets for my wife and her mother for Mother's Day presents, and they both flew out Monday because Jasmine is on leave. They also head home Monday.

I'm on a different computer than the one I was on last time I posted. Something was wrong on the old one and I was crashing pretty frequently in various games. (I couldn't play Champions Online or Star Trek Online without crashing fairly quick, and would crash at random in City of Heroes) The new PC is bare bones; I can play the aforementioned games and a few others, but the processor and video card are both middle of the road. I plan on upgrading both ASAP.

Glad you were able to persevere through the logon issues.  Not sure if they originated with the previous hosting or the new host.  I'll take a look at the timing of the change when I get some time, and make sure Stumpy knows if it happened after the move.

If you or anyone else has similar problems in the future and cannot log in, you should still be able to look up profile info on members as a guest.  Doing so should allow you to find a Titan, Mod, or Admin that has their email address listed in their profile, for just such issues (I know mine is).  That way you won't have to go for so long without anyone knowing you have a problem.

Welcome back to the posting world, GM, sorry about all of the technical issues!  That sounds really frustrating.  I'm sorry to hear about your father.  Good luck with the 'Dash gig!

Heya GM, good to see someone finding their way back.
So sorry to hear of the passing of your father, belated condolences to you and yours.
You mentioned what the new puppers are, but what are the first two?

And since you're Dashing.... can you bring me some Korean BBQ, extra spicy?

The first two are a Dachshund-Beagle named Jasper and an Australian Shepard-Great Dane named Midnight (supposedly; I think its more likely Laborador Retriever in her than Great Dane). The twins are named Eclipse and Kobe. (Kobe is named after Kobe Bryant; my stepson is a Portland Trailblazers fan, but Kobe Bryant was his favorite player. I'm a Lakers fan, but I would have named the dog Magic.....)

As it turns out, the board started having issues (again) around the middle of September last year, and by the beginning of October, it was completely down.  We (mostly stumpy, GG, & Zap) weren't able to get things running again until just before Christmas.  Since we migrated to a different host in the process, it's not unlikely that something with your account got stuck or was incomplete, but I'm out of ideas as to why it might just start working.  However, I'm glad it did, as we always like it when people come back, and it saves our overworked Admin from losing any more follicles over database issues.
