Title: Tech tools for Windows 10?
Post by: Helix on April 02, 2021, 04:11:00 AM

So, I've been away from the community for quite a while. My last laptop died and I just recently got a new one. I assume that Nifskope and the old character tool don't work in Windows 10. So what are you guys using these days?

Hi Helix

I'm using win7 64 bit and am upgrading to Win1o soon , but from what I've seen on the site, both have the same issues.

The original cds for both FF games won't work as is, even with compatibility/ admin mode. The problem is the executables having copy protection that Win doesn't support anymore (securom, I think).

I got mine to work by using some old nocd cracks and compatibility/ admin mode. Both games are now running fine. FF has EXFX and FFX installed, and they work as well. I haven't put them on FFvt3R yet.

The other way to go is both steam and GOG have them for sale cheap as downloads, and they've been fixed to work on the new systems.

I haven't had any problems with either of the character tools, nifskope 1.113, or Blender 2.49b with nifskripts. Since they don't have copy protection, they seem to work fine.

The only issue I haven't been able to work around is in FFedit for FF - when I edit a mission and click on the "Edit in game" button, it always crashes.

Hope this help. Go ahead and load them up and see if they work.

Hey, Helix. Welcome back. I've been away for a while as well. I also had the issue of having to get a new laptop with Windows 10. I'm not having any trouble with the tools you mentioned. If you are playing FFVTTR, I might suggest downloading Alex's FFv3R Mod Tools located here: http://www.alexff.com/goodies.php

It contains FFEdit and Character Tool. It doesn't need to search for the game installation before installing the tools. It also supports Steam and GOG versions by allowing you to set the install path.
