Title: Thought experiment: Transformers television universe
Post by: Silver Shocker on February 23, 2021, 10:23:42 AM
Here's a crazy but awesome thought I had in my head during a caffeine/sugar/not-quite-enough-sleep/brain-neurons-firing off moment of mad brilliance: Hasbro taking advantage of the age of streaming to use Beast Wars and the concept of the multiverse in Transformers fiction to gradually build up a tv "cinematic universe" ala Mandalorian.

The specifics of how this plays out in my mind are long, awesome, insidious and pure fantasy, but the end result is a tv shared universe with Transformers in it.

Cool eh? What kind of stuff would YOU like to see in it?

QuoteI'd like them to make a firm decision on how tall each transformers are. Height should not be a fluid range.

Genuine laugh from me. Of all the things to think of with new Transformers, that's a good one to bring up, but it's not where my mind went.

"No mass shifting" has been an issue with TF for a long time. That rule played a part in Micheal Bay's vague, gun-metal grey overdesigned scrap metal monstrosities, and the sleek, sexy designs of...well, basically everything else, aren't that concerned with how how Ravage and Lazerbeak come out of Soundwave's chest, and for me personally, the tradeoff is absolutely worth it.

Since the MTMTE comic did it,I hoped we would get a Star Trek-like Transformers cartoon. Thats just too good of an idea not to do.

They did that, it's called "S2 of Transformers Cyberverse." It was pretty darn good.  ^_^

New Transformers series announced, which will be a Nickelodeon series. All we really know about it is:

QuoteThe series will be comprised of 26 half-hour episodes in which "a new species of Transformers must find their place and purpose among Autobots, Decepticons, and the human family that adopts them."

So basically, not Cyberverse, and a third faction of TFs.

We have seen that in TF fiction before, but to a strong degree in a cartoon. Potentially interesting.

QuoteTransformers will arrive on Nickelodeon in the United States at a yet-to-be-specified date before releasing internationally.

Hey, if nothing else, not counting a dopey kids' cartoon meant to sell 1-inch toys, coming to Netflix, we're getting three different TF shows in the future ( TF WFC: Kingdom, S4 of Cyberverse and this) so even if Canada gets screwed over on this show, I'll have my Beast Wars revival guaranteed day one (and this one I'll almost certainly watch day one, or close to it). Pretty nifty.

...by the same people who did Rise of the TMNT. CalArts is a blight upon humanity.

The Nick one or that Netflix one for the younglings? Because if it's the latter, I'm fine with that, it's clearly not for me.

If it's the former, and it's actually going to look like that.....that could be rough.

[Edit]: Ok, looked it up and you're right.

Meh, one of the biggest problems with Rise IMO was the "two shorts" format and the heavy pivot towards comedy ("comedy" meaning "everyone's a jerk to each other")

TF Cyberverse did good with the shorts format (as did the original Clone Wars - always got to remember that) and if Rise had more stories like the Shredder ones, it wouldn't have been nearly as bad.

This, as I mentioned earlier, is a half-hour show.

Yeah, the art style for Rise isn't my cup of tea, but it's a lot better looking than the Thundercats reboot.

I doubt it will be better. It will be same cruddy CalArts style, same stupid jokes, same cr@p as Rise,Thundercats Roar,Teen Titans Go and every other cartoon out there.
Congratz to CalArts graduates for setting back western animation by 30 years.

As they said, don't hate the player, hate the game.

Also, some sites (such as TFW2005) are reporting this new show as a "comedy" which I'm taking as meaning more of a comedy than TF normally is. Outcome cloudy.
