Post by: eluvium on October 05, 2019, 07:13:58 AM
  I keep trying to install the character tool for  :ffvstr: Steam version, but it says the game isn't installed and won't finish the process, has anyone else had this problem

It's pretty common, don't worry. Save the following code to a .reg file (you can do it with notepad) and running that file should fix your issue.

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Irrational Games]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Irrational Games\FFVTTR]
"GUID"=hex:5a,1d,ff,11,74,24,3e,4b,ba,5f,0d,03,c2,5e,8e,88
"GameExe"="c:\\program files\\valve\\steam\\steamapps\\common\\Freedom Force vs The 3rd Reich\\ffvt3r.exe"
"InstallDir"="c:\\program files\\valve\\steam\\steamapps\\common\\Freedom Force vs The 3rd Reich"
"SourceDir"="j:"
"ADMIN_RIGHTS"="SECUROM_ERR_ADMIN_RIGHTS"
"NO_DISC"="SECUROM_ERR_NO_DISC"
"NO_DRIVE"="SECUROM_ERR_NO_DRIVE"
"TITLEBAR"="SECUROM_ERR_TITLEBAR"
"WRONG_DISC"="SECUROM_ERR_WRONG_DISC"
"EMULATION_DETECTED"="SECUROM_ERR_EMULATION_DETECTED"
"AUTH_TIMEOUT"="SECUROM_ERR_AUTH_TIMEOUT"
"NO_ORIG_FOUND"="SECUROM_ERR_NO_ORIG_FOUND"
"Game"="ffvt3r.exe"

Edit:  :ff: has a similar issue, so if you need that code too let me know.

Hold on, I made it easier.

https://mega.nz/#!eQsnVaKQ!YFOUjuS75XIPK9C4eKvWSCASBJt0xBl-vvu1Ds9rqCU

download this, double click it. Windows will ask you if it's ok to add registry data, say yes.

Basically, steam changed how the program installation is registered in Windows, so all the side programs that check for registration now look in the wrong place. This spoofs an old install so ffedit will think you've installed it the old way.

Hey thanks, follow up  question, alot of meshes I view in the  :ff: character tool are someone fractured and "broken" looking, is there an easy way to fix this without a working knowledge of meshes?

Great work, 'Mato!  This is rather like closing the barn door after the cows are out, but doesn't the newer version of the mod tools on Alex's site work with Steam and GOG versions more directly?

No. Unfortunately, Ctool for  :ff: was built with windows xp in mind, and it wasn't exactly fantastic then either, so it doesn't work properly in anything 7 or up. You should be able to see the models properly in game, or in "Ctool 2" for  :ffvstr: .

As for that... I thought so, but I'm not knowledgeable enough about the updated mod tools to know.

If I remember correctly (It's been a while, sorry), I'm pretty sure that they do.
