Title: Help Update the DCUG!
Post by: BentonGrey on May 15, 2018, 04:18:51 PM
Howdy FR folks! I'm pretty busy these days, and I just can't seem to find the time/energy to finish the projects I've got sitting around (TMNT and PCT).  Nonetheless, I've been bitten by a bug that has me doing some tweaking of my two big mods, MA and yes, the original, venerable, big-enough-to-choke-an-elephant, DC Universe According to Grey.  Recent interest from a kind fan has motivated me to finally re-upload it.  I'm putting together a simpler, cleaner, slightly updated copy of the DCUG that has a self-install program instead of the super problematic mutli-part zip that has been the bane of my existence since I first released the sucker.

I could just go ahead and pack it up, but I've decided to take the opportunity to do the same thing I've been doing with Marvel Adventures, sort of kick the tires, fix some problems, update a bit here and there, and maybe even add a very small amount of new content.  I've only been messing with it for a little while, and I've already fixed a bunch of little stuff and improved some balance, but I think I'll take this opportunity to do something I've been thinking about for a long while, update some characters by adding some new (to me) art assets.

There has been a ton of great content created since I released this project, but I haven't had much heart to mess with it since then.  Still, from time to time I would notice a new DC mesh, skope, or skin and think, 'man, I should put that in the DCUG!'  I've tried to kept a list of new and exciting art assets that I would add/switch out, or tweak, but the truth is, life was crazy busy, my memory wasn't up to the task, and I just couldn't keep track of everything.  My list is very incomplete, and also many of the options we once had of browsing content visually no longer exist.  I have a couple of things already slotted in, but I thought I would open it up to the community to help me and my bad memory with suggestions for neat artwork that the community created since the DCUG was released way back in 2010 and which might make nice additions/updates.

What skins/skopes/meshes would you like to see added to the DCUG?

I'll use this thread to collect and catalog new materials and to get help locating those I choose.

Things to check out (a list for me):
-Dean's Ocean Master
-Dean's Captain Cold
-AA's Mera
-LP; Batgirl, Huntress, Black Canary
-LP; Killer Frost, Houngan
-AA's; Aqualad, Cyborg, Donna Troy, Hawkgirl, Lex Luthor, Ms Martian, Red Robin, Raven, Robin, Starfire
-Murs; Sinestro
-LP; Fatal Five, Katana, Suicide Squad

Things I'm Looking For:
-Gren's Aquaman
-Keys compatible with Gren's Aquaman
-New 52 Ocean Master
-My old voicepacks
-A new Fisherman
-interesting skins for Mr. Mechanical mech men
-I need someone to make me some portraits for some of the anti-matter heroes that the community came up with for the CSA arc.
--Professor Radiant
--Quizmaster
--Ivodroid

-Can anyone put the JLA logo on the FF table for me?  Something like this:
https://static0.cbrimages.com/wp-content/uploads/social_post/jla-social_1.jpg

-phasing attack keys compatible with Ren's Martian Manhunter
-Has anyone done the New 52 CSA Sea King?

-VPMAX voice ID list
-Did someone make Apokaliptian dog cavalry a while back?
-I'm still trying to find the method M25 designed to make EZScript missions save-able.
-Sgt. Rock and notable elements of Easy Company
-G.I. Robot:

1.) I would love to see something done with the Crime Syndicate (Tomato has some great ones at HeroForce).

2.) I would also love to see something done with the various Lantern Corps on SickAlice's site.

3.) There's a bunch of Teen Titans/Young Justice stuff in AA's section of HeroForce.

4.) Laughing Paradox has the Masters of Disaster, and the Suicide Squad at the Force of Paradox.

5.) And Daglob and Detourne_Me both have too many awesome stuff to name.

Thanks guys!

DJ, thanks, I've her.  That list is just for my use to keep track of what I remember.

CB:
1) Right!  I forgot about all of 'Mato's awesome CSA stuff!  I can definitely use most if not all of those.  All I remembered was his evil Aquaman, but I forgot he did the whole team.  Excellent!
2) Ahh, I remember those now.  I probably won't be adding in any big teams, though I'm not averse to adding in a few simple-ish new characters.
3) Yes!  I see those and have added lots of them to my list to check out!
4) I don't see those.  They don't seem to be under LP's section anywhere I can find.  I'm interested, so can anyone point me in the right direction?
5) This is my problem!  :D  It's a good problem to have.

You'll find LP's Masters of Disaster here: http://forceofparadox.byethost31.com/laughingparadox_three.html (Look for Windfall)

And you'll find his Suicide Squad here: http://forceofparadox.byethost31.com/laughingparadox_four.html (Look for Count Vertigo)

Ahh!  Now I see my mistake.  Thanks CB!

Ha, DJ, I was actually just looking back through your skin thread to see what I had missed, but all your pictures other than the most recent are gone.  Of course, considering your obscure Marvel kick... :)

That's cause up until the more recent stuff, the pictures were hosted on Photobucket which I ran away from in the middle of the night.  Besides, you'd have to go back to the FR Archive to find anything aside from originals and Marvel that I've done...or even before then....

I also have an amazo skope I made with a bunch of gren's animations added to it like Supes, Flash, and Green Lantern. As well as some telepathy stuff.

As for Murs Sinestro, I know that you have it, but I put the skin (both the original and his Sinestro Corps suit) on a mesh that uses Ren's GL keyframes.

EDIT: They're C6's Sinestro skins, not Murs. Whoops

I could put in some of the tedious work of converting to .dds, renaming texture files, and reassigning them in NifSkope if you have any groups in mind.

I'm not sure about the aesthetic of my imported meshes matching with the established Freedom Force look though. Maybe some of the Gorillas from DC Universe Online?

Spyder, cool, send that Amazo my way, if you'd be so kind.

DM, hmm, I may very well take you up on that when I get a better sense of what I'm doing!

Who all did skins for Gren's new Aquaman?

Here's another one.  So, my current Aquaman, which I love dearly, has Ren's Superman keys.  Yet, Gren's mesh is fantastic and has Gren keys of some sort.  It looks like the two are not compatible, SO, what keys would have what I need from Ren's Superman kfs but be compatible with Gren's Aquaman?  Essentially, I just need something to provide me with some nice options for combos, maybe some kicks, and some mental attacks.  Variety may be the spice of life, but it is also the spice of my character designs.  ;)

I've done some stuff, but, as usual, most of it will be for obscure characters.

Well, if you've ever played the DCUG, you should know that I'm not afraid of obscure!  :P

Did anyone make anything for classic Aquagirl (Tula) in the interim?

The headlights for my Batmobile seem to have suffered the alpha-related problem I've seen before from .dds conversion, and they have big squares around them instead of glowing properly.  Could anyone take a look at that for me?  I'm THINKING it should be a relatively easy fix.

you do this manually? I use a image converter called x2y. it has saved me a lot of problems lately, been able to convert several .tga images at the same time.

I can't speak for Detourne_Me, but for what I've been doing, it's more than just converting the .tga Files to .dds format. I'm also re-naming each and every art texture so that it has a unique name, plus I'm going through every .nif File and changing the names of the textures referenced in those .nif Files to the newly named textures. After that, then I check each texture to make sure that dimensions are correct and that the alpha properties have not been messed up when the textures were converted from .tga to .dds format. If any of those issues have problems, then I fix them as well.

Then I go through the .nif Files and look for anything else that may happen to need to be adjusted, after I make any necessary changes, I repackage everything up, and send it back to Benton. Sometimes it is a quick fix, and sometimes it's not.

There are some really great resources in the unfinished Flash. Cyber Burn made a great ChillBlain, for example, with many more great examples.

Yeah, CB really came through for me (as he always does!), both by diagnosing that problem (the seemingly inexplicable pinking of .dds files) and helping me go so far to fixing it.  It is, sadly, not a quick fix.

Oddly, I've yet to see that happen with the DCUG.

Thanks Bearded!

For those of you who are interested, I've started a thread in the Sounds section looking for suggestions as I add music to the campaign missions.

Oh man! I completely forgot about that one. I think I had used that to experiment some new ideas with, more than anything else. And I know that it still needs a real skin, because mine was horrible.

I can't take credit for that find Benton, I think it was AA who posted about it prior to me. All I did was just experiment with the concept a bit and try to push its limits.

As for editing the DCUG Files, perhaps over the summer could take some of this on for you.

Well, nonetheless, you did the grunt work and helped me get the issue fixed!  It's much appreciated, CB!  I'll keep that in mind too.  Oddly, I've still yet to see any pinking at all.

So, here's a little progress report for those of y'all who are interested.  I've played through and updated the whole JLA campaign.  I've fixed some minor bugs and typos, added music to all of the missions, tweaked the balance, and even added a little custom music to the finale.  I forgot how much fun that campaign was.  I'm really pleased with how it turned out, and I had a blast going back to it.  Now I'm starting on the JSA campaign, and I remember there being some rough edges left on that one.

I'm also leaning heavily towards moving Aquaman to Gren's mesh.  It's a pretty fantastic piece.  If I can find something with compatible keys that I can steal a few combo keys from to add some variety, I'm definitely going to do it.

Hey CB, you're right, but he did a lovely skin/skope of the classic version (which I am considering, but given my version of the character, I'm toying with using the New 52 look, if I can find it).  On the bright side, I did find his AWESOME Black Manta skin/skope that I had forgotten about!

Aww... :(  Haha, you think you're the only one I pester DJ?   Ha, duly noted.  I'll make sure to bother you about something else.  :)

Dean, awesome!  I will take you up on that.  You can find some images here:

His new design is really quite solid, though the black patch on his breast and shoulders is an odd choice.  I'd say that might be a good opportunity to incorporate his classic insignia, maybe making that black section a stylized sting-ray instead of a random black patch.  As with the other thing, I leave the matter to your artistic judgement, if you're interested.  If you take it on, whatever keys you choose should have some good options for ranged attacks, as I'm still going with the classic magician version.

I see what you did there!

My goodness, Dean.  I'm sorry, but this is unexceptionable.  I had to wait a whole five minutes before you showed up with this amazingly lovely skin! ;)  Ha!  Man, that was fast, AND this is awesome!  Just great work on the scales and the belt and other details, I'm really impressed.  Could we go with a brighter, more vibrant red for the inside of his cape?  The DCUG has a brighter color palette than the New 52.

DM came through for me on Aquaman with flying colors (or would that be flying fish?)!  It is PRECISELY what I wanted, so that's taken care of!

:EDIT: Here's a new one: Does anyone have the voice ID list for VPMAX?  I've got some voices that aren't working, and having the list to refer to would be a big help for figuring things out.

:EDIT 2: Another one; does anyone have my old voicepacks?  Apparently my yahoo groups went the way of the dinosaurs.  I think I've got most of them, but I'm not sure, between various computer crashes and such.

:EDIT 3: And yet another; I'm reviewing some of the voicepacks assignments for the mod, cleaning things up, adding changing things around, etc.  I'm looking for suggestions and ideas in my thread in the Sounds section.

:EDIT 4: Sheesh!  Another one!  Anyway, I'm going to create a Herofile thread to get suggestions for tweaking certain characters' builds and would welcome responses.

Ohh man, that looks utterly fantastic, Dean!  What great work!  He looks perfect!

Here's a new one:  What cool alternate skins exist for the mech men and flame mechs?

:EDIT: Another one: So, I remember once having a Martian Manhunter mesh/keyframes that had some cool phasing attacks.  Apparently the keys I've currently got for the MM_Ren don't seem to have those.  Does anyone know of compatible keys from which I can steal such animations?

:EDIT2: Has anyone done the New 52 CSA Sea King?  If not, no worries, but I love that they made the hook-handed Aquaman EVIL Aquaman.

:EDIT3: Long ago when I was first working on the DCUG, the great M25 actually came up with a way to make EZScript missions saveable.  I've looked back at the old threads, and I can't find the code, but it may still exist somewhere.  Does anyone have any idea where it might be found?  Here's where we discussed it:

Another update for those of y'all that are interested:  I've finished my pass through of the JLA/JSA campaign, and reached the final finished mission.  Apparently I had a basically finished mission that I just didn't set up properly and so wasn't available, so that one will now work.  Yay!  Unfortunately, I can't remember what I had planned next!   I've dug out my notes, but they don't say either, so I'm going to have to figure out how to end this story arc.  Does anyone remember me talking about my plans way back then?  :P

I'm contemplating slotting in some type of one or two mission story that adds Green Arrow to the League before the JSA arc.  What do y'all think about that?  I feel like he sort of deserves a spotlight mission, as he was the League's first addition.  I'm contemplating some situation where the League is captured and he sneaks in and rescues them, but I haven't figured out what menace to use.  I'm saving the Royal Flush Gang and Felix Faust for later.  Hmmm...

How about a mission where he stops the Suicide Squad from messing with the League's stuff? A kind of counter-intelligence mission. Most of the squad is on his level and that will give a variety of enemies to fight. Plus he can meet Count Vertigo for the first time in that mission :P

It would also show off all of the new Suicide Squad stuff from LP.

Thanks PG, I'll check that out!

Good ideas, guys!  I think I'll eventually do just such a story arc (I actually have something in mind involving a plot by Vandal Savage that ties in with some earlier, unfinished work).  Upon reflection, though, I don't think this would fit in at this point in the JLA campaign.  My idea is that (with certain exceptions, like Batman), these various campaigns start from Day 1 and follow the development of characters and teams, so in the second arc, it would be too soon for Waller and the Squad to be targeting the League (though I do have plans to adapt the Ultimen storyline from JLU eventually).

I've been thinking about this, though, looking at the different pieces I have to work with.  I really like the angle they took in JLU for Arrow's recruitment, i.e., he's hesitant but joins after he sees how much good he can do.  Thus, I'd like something that's a bigger, at least somewhat 'world conquering/destroying' threat.  The trouble I've run into is the same that Bruce Timm and co. encountered in JLU; 'most DC villains just want to rob banks.'

Here's what I'm currently leaning towards:  The Key, he's a classic JLA villain from the early days of the team, he's (with some modern flavoring) powerful enough to trouble the whole team, and he provides the possibility for some lager scale plans.  I'm thinking of a 3 mission structure, with: 1) the League encounter the Key in some type of heist, foiling him, but having him escape thanks to dimensional travel, 2) Lantern coming to recruit Arrow while Ollie is out on patrol, simple mission, street level, with a supervillain fight at the end (maybe Clock King and some muscle with a well-organized heist thrown off by GL's arrival), and 3) GA visits the Watchtower, only to find the League missing and follow the Key back through a portal to his extra-dimensional base, where the villain has teleported and imprisoned the League, forcing GA to free them.

Okay, here are my ongoing requests/questions:

-Looking for KFs with phasing attacks compatible with Ren's MM
-Has anyone done the New 52 CSA Sea King?
-Did someone make Apokaliptian dog cavalry a while back?
-Can someone make me portraits for these anti-matter villains (only exist in the DCUG):
--Professor Radiant
--Quizmaster
--Ivodroid

-And I'm still trying to find the method M25 designed to make EZScript missions save-able.

-And a new one, can anyone put the JLA logo on the FF table for me?  Something like this:
https://static0.cbrimages.com/wp-content/uploads/social_post/jla-social_1.jpg

And here is a rough story outline that for new JLA missions that I'd like to get some feedback on.  These would come between the first arc and the JSA team-up.  If you want to be surprised, don't look!
Spoiler

  • Shaggy Man: City is being torn apart by an attempt to create artificial life gone wrong.  I'm trying to think of how to make this interesting and more than just a straight fight.  MAYBE GA happens along and pitches in, starting his arc and recruitment.
  • Key 1 Base: MAYBE = Luthor starts to form the Injustice Gang to take on the JLA.
  • Key 1: JLA responds to break in at S.T.A.R. Labs, as new villain, the Key, tries to steal hi-tech devices.  To distract them, he unleashes dimensional forces to create disasters around the town.
  • Injustice 1 Base: IG plot advances OR JLA discusses recruiting GA
  • Injustice 1: GA on patrol, encounters Clock King with carefully crafted robbery, thrown off by arrival of GL. AND/OR Opening moves of Luthors IG, some type of ambush, not sure.
  • Key 2 Base: Key ambushes and captures JLA
  • Key 2: GA arrives at Watchtower, follows Key through portal, and frees League and foils his plans (adapting some of the 'opening a doorway to dimension of power' stuff from Morrison.
  • Injustice 2: Big showdown with IG in some fashion, maybe adapting portions of JLU episode, probably at least keeping the Luthor/cancer element.

What do y'all think?

Send me the table and I'll see. I'll need to know which way is "up" on it.

Please be advised they are predicting 6+ inches of rain over the weekend, strong winds with gusts, probable tree damage, and better then even chances that the power will go out.

DG, that I do!  Ha, stay safe and dry, my friend!  Thanks for taking on the logo.  It should be a simple job, from what I'm seeing.  I've sent you the textures and some notes.

CB, thanks man!  I suppose you're the logical choice, right?  :D  Radiant already has a portrait, but it's a full-body shot, and I'd prefer head and shoulders, or at least waist up shots so that players can see them when their anim portraits show up in the missions.  I want to show off these cool characters you created!  :D

Cool!  He could definitely use a skin/skope, and I'd be delighted to see you do it!

Well guys, I've got a new one for y'all.  I thought for sure I had Shaggy Man already, but apparently not.  I saw a skin by El Insensatez, but I was wondering if anyone else had tackled him.  It seems like he'd be a natural fit for Gren's Sasquatch mesh.  I made plans to include him in the JLA campaign before I realized I didn't have him.  Whoops!  :P

Awesome, Dean you're batting a thousand!

Hey guys, does anyone have an FF2 functional maps of the base scenes from FF 1 16: Destroy and 23: Dawn?  You can see what they look like on Alex's Atlas:
http://www.alexff.com/goodies_atlas.php
These would be PERFECT for something, but apparently the Map Pack didn't include the base.dats with the FF1 missions.

I feel like some of the mappers had released these separately, but I can't check FX Force anymore to see a visual representation of their releases, obviously.  By the way, does anyone happen to have the dangeroom section of FX Force saved?  I'd love to have that reference.

Post by: BentonGrey on May 26, 2018, 07:34:11 PM
Alright, I managed to port over the base maps, and I've adjusted their layout files to point to area_speciff1, but all their objects are showing up with blank templates.  I realize that there's probably nobody around that knows about mapmaking anymore, but does anyone by chance know if there is an easy fix to this, rather than having to reset every template by hand?

:EDIT: Okay, I managed to do this by hand, and it wasn't too bad, so that much is sorted.  I am having a blast with these new JLA missions!

New JLA missions are underway!  I've finished 11, just need to test it.  I've mostly finished 12, and have done the map work for 13.  That leaves 14, 15, and JSA 7 and 8.  I've finally mostly figured out how to end the JSA crossover, and I think it should be fun.  I'm particularly excited about what I've got in store fore JLA 13!  After I finish the JLA campaign, I think I'll do a quick check up on Batman and then continue the Aquaman campaign that I abandoned.

So, I've got a question for interested parties.  I had originally intended to eventually combine the two distinct character plots in Mystery in Space, The Atom and the Hawks, but I think that point is down the line a ways and I don't know that I'll be able to get to it this go-around.  What would folks think about me splitting those into two distinct campaigns, so you can play them individually?  I do have one new Hawkman mission basically finished, and I'll probably do a new one for each character, if I can.

Okay, here's a weird one.  So, I've been using FF1 maps for a while, and for the layout file, they always point to some crazy, nonexistent directory.
Quote\\Shodan\Project\Justice\Data\Art\level layout\23_The_Dawn_of_Time\23_The_Dawn_of_Time\level.txt
Now, whenever I have to edit one of these level layouts, obviously I've got to put the file in a directory that actually exists and point the editor towards it, right?

I've always assumed that the layout files in my main Data directory were the source for these, somehow, and updated properly to play nicely with the Map Pack.  Well, there are two LL folders, one in Data/Level Layout, and the other in Data/Art/Level Layout.  The first one is all updated with proper area_speciff1 entries for appropriate maps, but it only has a handful of FF1 maps.  The second one has all the FF1 maps (and I must have put them there sometime, though I don't remember when), but most if not all of them are not updated.

I discovered this when I copied that second directory into the DCUG so I could have any necessary LLs for my players who might not have everything in my Frankensteined setup.  You see, that data path that I thought must have been pointing to my Data folder must not have been, because as soon as I copied the folder over, the FF1 maps I was working on suddenly went back to looking for their terrain and objects in area_specific, despite the fact that they had worked fine before.

Weird!  Anyone have any insight into this bit of weirdness?  Where are those corrected LLs stored?  Anyone know?

Howdy guys, here is a new but minor one and a question.  First, could someone do a simple object texture for me?  I need a Per Degaton flag, just a black flag with a red 'D' on it, like his costume:
https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/marvel_dc/images/f/f3/Per_Degaton_%28New_Earth%29_Whos_Who.png/revision/latest?cb=20100123034635
I'll use the Shadow Lair Banner object, and if someone is willing, I'll send them the texture.

Second, is there a collection of the standard FFX textures somewhere, like the utility belt, ice sheet, etc?  I'd like a simple way to add that stuff to maps that may not have it.

Anything like that should be in your ffx3/art/library/fx folder. And if you can't find something there, try using FFEdit to look at the FFX Resources tab. I think that's where all of the FFX FX are located.

(Man, did I type FX enough? lol)

All male_basic keys can be used with Tommy's but you might have to add some info to the run keyframes to hide any weapons or extra parts. What are you thinking about?

Ahh!  That's very helpful!  Thanks!

Well, I know there are several meshes in my mod that use the TF keys, and, while Tommy's animations have a lot of great stuff that I love, I'm not crazy about the run that comes with them.  I'd have to take inventory to see who all uses those keys and if any of them would need anything fancy.  I know at least a couple of characters that don't have any hidden weapons or anything, but I'll have to put together a list.

Well, I just ran into a weird and maddening problem.  It's driving me freaking insane, and sadly, there's probably no one around who can help me.  Still, I needed to vent a bit.  So, Unko has graciously agreed to create some more custom covers for the DCUG, which is awesome, and these things are fantastic.  I've been setting them up as loading screens, doing the same thing I did a zillion times in my Marvel and Pulp mods, and it worked fine...for the first four JLA missions...and after that, none of them are showing up, and I have NO IDEA WHY!  The files are all correct, the entries are all correct, everything should be working...but it's not.  Good freaking heavens!  I'm going to lose my mind over this.

Okay guys, I've got a fairly odd and relatively big problem.  My Jokerfixed mesh has a weird floating block of distorted texture hanging off of his hand.  If figure this is some artifact of converting him or something, but, and here is the real issue, I can't open the mesh in Nifskope.  When I do, everything seems fine, but there is no visual representation of the mesh.  Can someone help me out with this?  I have no idea what to do, and the Joker looks really weird at the moment.

Howdy guys, I've got a little bit of time, so I'm doing a bit more work, and I need some help.

First, does anyone have Jokerfixed by BeardedinLair?

What other great Joker meshes/skopes are there?  I know there's a Joker_Modern, but it's not really the style I'm after, which is the classic Joker.

Has anyone skoped TUE's Joker with Ink's Joker keys?

Now for the more complicated one.  I'm crossposting this in the HF section.  I need to tweak my Superman/Lex Luthor setup.  My original build was Supes with Vulnerability and Accidental Change, triggered by Alien Mineral and Lex Luthor's Toxic attribute.  The Change would spawn a weakened, K-Poisoned version of Supes, who would revert back after a while.  I had that because Supes' invulnerability wasn't affected by Vulnerability, ironically.  This is a little clunky and poses some major problems for using him in EZScripted missions, as, if he gets called on by the script by name while poisoned, it could crash the mission or at least break it.  I'd like to streamline the build.  Anyone have any ideas?  Anyone know enough about attributes to tweak Vulnerability to remove INvulnerability?

Small update: I finally solved some problems in my new JLA missions that had me stumped, but I ran into new ones.  Ha, two steps forward, one back.  Wish me luck!

Thanks Spyder!  I actually mis-wrote; I'm looking for the Beardedinlair Jokerfixed, with its wonderfully goofy animations.

On a different note, I just learned something helpful and really annoying.  My current mission hasn't been working.  It ended with an interrogation of Lex Luthor, but after the CS, the mission wouldn't end.  I finally realized that EZScript apparently doesn't play nicely with characters that have Energy Shield (Passive).  When it tries to kill them off after an interrogation or something, the damage gets applied to the shield, the character doesn't die, and the mission doesn't end!  Sheesh!  What an annoying lesson to learn.

Thanks Mike!  I'm not 100% certain exactly WHICH mesh this is, but here are some pictures to help with identification:

Seems to be related to the gun.

Unfortunately, when I open the mesh in Nifskope, there is no model visible, so I have no idea how to fix this thing.  I think I'll just need to start from the original mesh.

I also am considering tweaking the mesh, adding other animations, or even using a different mesh with these animations.  I love C6's skin, but I also love TUE's gorgeous new(ish) Joker.  I definitely want these wacky keys, though.

Crosspost with Mod thread:

Ooookay....I've hit a major snag.  I've come across a really weird problem, and I need some help.  I'm using the converted FF1 map of the final Timemaster battle, the giant, spinning purple Cosmic Clock level (24d), with all the little disk worlds around it.  The trouble is, the map surface is inaccessible.  It shows up perfectly fine, visually, but characters can't move on it, and if I teleport them around, they just slowly slide back to where they started.  I've got no clue what's going on or how to fix it.  Any ideas?  This is the big setpiece finale of the Key arc, and this map is perfect for it...it's rather integral.

If someone who knows something about nifs could take a look at the map file, try to suss out what the deal is and how to fix it, I'd really appreciate it.

So I'm taking a look at the mission file in FFEdit for FFVTTR (The mission was included in the FFX map pack I got from somewhere)
It looks like the main playable area is atop the cog_massive template object.  Im not sure if all of the correct flags are chosen for the template itself, like standon, flyover, etc.
Also I was looking at the terrain.nif for it, and there are two layers that look like a base (they are the wavy texture I think) but I notice that they were assigned as AREA_UNPASSABLE, I'm not sure, but maybe in FFVTTR, anything over an AREA_UNPASSABLE terrain means you cannot walk on it.  I've had similar problems in my many attempts to import maps (with only one or two successes out of at least 8 attempts).
Hope that helps.

Thanks DM, that at least gives me some clues about what I should be looking at.

Does the map work for you?

If not, any idea how to change an 'area_unpassable' entry?  I tried just deleting the text, but the map crashed.

I've checked the object, and it did indeed have some wrong flags, but changing them hasn't solved the problem, unfortunately.

:EDIT: Okay, partial success...maybe?  I've deleted the 'area_unpassable' entry by using 'remove branch', and now the characters can move........on the ground.  They fall right through the cog.  As far as I can tell, the cog's settings are correct, so I'm stuck again.

See anything out of place?

Ok you got them walking on the terrain map, right? I dont think you need to delete area_unpassable, just rename it to a different material type. If you check other terrain.nif files they are called area_dirtpath or something like that. Im not too sure.

As for your cog template entry. I really don't know what tags it should have. Did you try looking at the same tags for a building? Since you can walk on the roofs of those?

Edit: the map has never worked for me in the rumble room before. This was the first time ive looked at it really. Since FF1 i mean.

Thanks for the help, DM!

So, I made the map area_timemaster, which also worked.  I tried adding a boundingbox to the cog, but no luck.  I did look at other objects, like buildings, but nothing obvious jumped out at me.
Title: Re: Help Update the DCUG!
Post by: BentonGrey on November 14, 2018, 04:03:10 AM
Okay, update: I have tried everything I can think of with the object, and the heroes still fall through it.  I tried making it a building, I tried a variety of attribute settings, and I tried adding a bounding box.  No luck from anything.  I'm not sure what else to do.

To try an alternate tack, I just copied the object itself into to terrain.nif, thinking to solve the problem by emulating the other diskworld maps.  However, it doesn't show up in game.  I'm probably not doing something right on this end.

:EDIT: Further update; I've got it working....sort of!  I added the cog object to the 'editable mesh' portion of the terrain right under the throne, the bit that I think has the images of the disk worlds on it.  That did it!  It no longer rotates, of course, but at least it is passable!

Now I've just got to get the mission to work properly... :P

So, I KNOW that I once came across a FF1 map that was an oil platform, or perhaps several.  I've looked through my map pack files, but I can't find it, nor does it doesn't show up on the Wayback Machine page of FXForce.  Does anyone happen to have that sucker?  I've got plans for my Aquaman campaign that involve it.

What is out there for Sgt. Rock and Easy Company?

I think they had their own series. But if you are gonna run a WW II  campaign, you gotta have 'em and maybe The Blackhawks too...

...and Johnny Patches did a couple of War Wheels...

Hey, and the Haunted Tank...

Hahaha!  Well, never fear, I have other obscure characters I plan to bother you about, DJ!   Seriously man, thank you for being such a booster for my return to the DCUG.  You've been awesome!

DG, thanks for the Rock skin/skope!  I'm surprised that there aren't more versions of him.  I know he's not a superhero, but he's a relatively significant character.  I'd have thought more folks would have tackled the good Sgt.

I am also looking for/requesting G.I. Robot.

It's possible I'm considering a brief WWII campaign, but no promises.  ;)

Gunner and Pooch were part of a different team...the Losers, IIRC.

I actually thought I had JP's War Wheels already, but apparently I was wrong.  Can someone point me in their direction?

I have thought about the Blackhawks.  I'd like to include them, but I don't think I could do anything interesting with them, as they're just guys with guns when out of their planes.  If there's a desire for them, I could be persuaded to try.

As for the Haunted Tank...well, watch for my next developer's journal!  :D

Okay, thanks to Or, Mike, and DG, I've got male_Scap.  Thanks guys!  :D

El Insensatez's skin is really quite nice, very classic and Golden Ageish, but it's my understanding that the Icicle uses a cold-gun, which this fellow's mesh lacks.  Would anyone be willing to take a crack at a skope/skin combo for me?  Any chance EI is still around and might update the skin?

Hey, so this is weird.  Or just sent me the male_basic_FX mesh, which is clearly what's in the Mist's readme and is clearly the right type of mesh.  It is emitting FX and everything, but despite that, the Mist skin doesn't have textures named properly to replace its flames.  Anyone know what I'm missing?

Do you still need the Torch mesh?

It's going to take someone with more scoping skills than I have to make it work. Male S-Cap won't line up. I was trying to put it on Deathlock and Crimson Avenger, because they have high-tech-looking guns. I'll try some others, but I know if I can do it.

DJ & PG: Good choices. I didn't do anything else last night (got up early to help  my daughter yesterday), but was going to go back to it today.

The S-Cap mesh is Male Basic, but the "male_basic" part of the mesh itself does not have a name. It's like just copying the editable mesh part to another mesh: sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. This time...

I tried running it trough Blender (and am tempted to re-create the mesh with plain old Male Basic), but so far no luck. Anything else I post about it I'll put in the Hex Editing forum.
Title: Re: Help Update the DCUG!
Post by: detourne_me on December 01, 2018, 06:05:09 PM
DG, there's always another way to do things.  Instead of bringing Male_Scap to the gun, bring the gun to male_Scap.
take the gun and any other nodes from Crimson Avenger, and paste them into the male_Scap mesh,  then his keyframes should work perfectly for icicle.

Thanks for weighing in, DM!  And thanks for taking a stab at this, DG!

DJ, I knew that I had seen a Tommyboy Fiddler once upon a time, but I was beginning to fear that you were right.  He's not on Tommy's site, but I did a search of the old forums and found a reference to him, tracked him down in my Yahoo groups (TBmeshes 17), and viola!  It turns out, we actually DO have a mesh with fiddling anims, courtesy of the incomparable Tommyboy, and Tommy did a really great job!

(http://i.imgur.com/RAj0YhUm.png) (https://imgur.com/RAj0YhU)

Thanks for the suggestions, though!  I've got Brainwave already, and I've been considering the Gambler....he's just so goofy looking that I haven't brought myself to include him yet....(and yet I've got the Fiddler, the Bug-Eyed Bandit, etc....)

Haha, I think the Goof Troop has more dignity than Bug-Eyed Bandit...

Hey, did Ren make a Firebrand II (https://comicvine.gamespot.com/danette-reilly/4005-66975/)

Update-
Can folks help me find what's out there for:

I'm going to go ahead and add the Gambler.  After all, he was a major foe of the GA heroes.  Anyone willing to skin Tommy's mesh?  It's got a solid base skin, but his gun isn't skinned, so at least I need that done.

Also, I've been reading the great classic All-Star Squadron book from the 80s, and I'm toying with adding Johnny Quick (Golden Age) to the DCUG because he's such a fun character in that series.  Yet, the CSA character already has the name.  Would anyone care to see him included, and does anyone have any suggestions on how to handle the naming difficulty?
Title: Re: Help Update the DCUG!

It was just easier to sculpt a Male Basic:

This MBSC can go on most Male Basic-type meshes, so pick out your gun. It's on a scope by CB and the name of the weapon is Freeze Gun. The Male Basic parts have refl and glow textures, also. I also pointed the chin and nose a little. I need to see if he has pointy shoes (got the Blender file saved). I also considered starting with Male Basic Icecuffs.

I'll load my Abra Kadabra and see how far I got.

Writing in a lot of disconnected sentences. Still tired.

DJ, I actually already have this version of the Thinker in the mod:

There may be no skins for it, but I thought I might get lucky.  If anyone is interested at creating a modern, less ridiculous looking version of Flag (one not wearing a bright-yellow, V-neck shirt) based on that mesh, let me know!

Here's another new one, one of the great oversights of the original DCUG: What is out there for Swamp Thing (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swamp_Thing).

Daglob's got a really great Swamp Thing skope and skin at Alex's. I also released an imported mesh from Injustice

Laughing Paradox has a few versions of Rick Flagg, but no skins on the Solid Snake mesh.

Thanks DM!  That lead/reminded me of a real treasure trove of stuff!  My list of characters to update/add just got a little longer.  :D  I found Plastique there.  I knew I had seen her someplace.

So, another one: What is out there for the original, Golden Age Blue Beetle?  I thought I had him in, but apparently not.

Also, still looking for this:
QuoteHey guys, I am apparently missing the mesh I used for Toyman's toy armymen.  This is strange, as I know I had it once upon a time.  Does anyone have a hexed version of Captain America WWII that's scaled down to toy size, with a green army man skin?  The name is supposed to be something like: CAWW2_army men

There are several Golden Age Blue Beetles; Tommy has a couple I believe, and Kenn has a couple too. I know I had the army men, but I can't find them.

Only slightly off-topic, but depending on which version or where in the timeline you're thinking, Xaphan made a VP for him in FF1, but it's all non-verbal, so no talking.

If it can't be found how hard would it be to shrink down the Soldier mesh?  I'm sure a generic army man skin could be knocked out by someone (more talented than me).

Yeah PG, I'm sure that would be simple enough.  I'm just annoyed because I know I had it at some point in time!

If no-one can find it, I will have to request a 'green army man' skope/skin.

So guys, I've got some new requests coming, but first, does anyone happen to have any idea how the game applies the 'telepathy' effect to a portrait during a mission?  Like, where is that stuff stored?  I'm getting a pink portrait during 'speaking telepathically' scenes, and I'm not sure how to fix it.

Yeah, it might have been, but I feel like it was someone else.  Darn my memory!  :P

Hey Panther Gunn, I tried to send you the following via PM, but your inbox is full!

Spoiler
Thanks for offering to make some portraits for me.  There are so many moving parts with a mod, and especially one of this scale, that any and everything that I don't have to do myself is a big help!

I think it was you who helped me with this last time, right?  If so, it's like old times again!   :D

If you're willing, I'd love it if you'd field more of these for me.  I'll be adding characters relatively steadily, and it would be a help.

At the moment I've got a need for:

The Gambler
The Fiddler
The Mist
Liberty Belle
And
Abra Kadabra (classic costume) (https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/marvel_dc/images/a/a3/Abra_Kadabra_001.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20091116161140)
Haunted Tank (M-3 Stuart) (https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/marvel_dc/images/1/19/Haunted_Tank_2.JPG/revision/latest?cb=20060724190722)
Baron Blitzkrieg (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baron_Blitzkrieg)
Icicle I (classic costume) (https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/villains/images/c/c5/Icicle_1.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20110921195001)
Javelin (classic costume) (http://dc.wikia.com/wiki/Javelin_(New_Earth))

Well darn.  I know I remember this.  It was a big group shot of different gorillas armed with different weapons, and it wasn't CB's Killarillas.  Ohh well, maybe I imagined it.

I downloaded Tommy's Gorillaman_tf, and I think he'll do the trick.  Would anyone be willing to skope some sci-fi/hi-tech weapons onto him for me so he can be a Gorilla City trooper?

On a different note, can someone give me a simple white skin of the Centurion_spear_toss FX?

Okay, I figured out the spear texture, so that's good, but I still need the following:

So, I got the various HF packs y'all sent me, and they've been a help, but I know I had some really massive HF packs for  :ff:.  Does anyone have those?  I'm sure I could adapt some FF 1 HFs for characters that I don't know well.  It's helpful just to have a base.  Makes the process less daunting!

More coming!

Let me grab my files, put them together, and upload them, and then you're more than welcome to do with them as you please. Fair warning though, there are a lot of duplicates.

My inbox is always full.

Sorry I haven't given you an update yet, I was waiting to be at a point where you could choose between images (not quite there yet).  For those first three villains, finding decent, bronze-modern era art of the right size & pose of lesser used characters has been more of a challenge than I had thought.  I think I have something that will work for the first two, but the Mist is tough.  He's not frequently drawn upright, and a lot of his panels are on the small side.  I've found that I don't have any copies of the Starman series that he made more recent appearances in.  I haven't given up, and I haven't checked Google yet (since that's always a mixed bag of relevance, quality, and size).  Libby is at the other end, it's an embarrassment of riches with her appearances, but again, smaller panels or poses that don't work.  I'm only 6 issues into All Star Squadron (I'm *not* abbreviating that), so I've still got plenty to work with.  I'll get these four ready & send you what I have for your thoughts before I move on the the rest.

Did you have any particular timeline you need them by, or any particular order?  Abra, Blitzkreig, and Icicle should be easy enough (I say that now), but if memory serves me right, Slipknot & Javelin might be on the obscure side (although I think Slipknot was in Suicide Squad for a while).  And what did you have in mind for the Haunted Tank?  The tank itself, the gunner on top of the tank, or something else?

No worries man!  I appreciate you taking so much trouble over this, but don't put yourself out too much on my account!  :)  Yeah, there isn't a ton out there for the Mist, so we may just have to take what we can get.

The timeline and order are very flexible.  These guys are all built-in now, so I can just slot the portraits as they come in.  They just need to be done by the time I release the mod, which won't be for quite a while.  If you're willing, I'll keep sending you the occasional request to add to the list as I go through new batches of character additions.

Yeah, I think there's good art out there for them, at least in Google.  Slipknot was in Suicide Squad...briefly. Ha!  He actually was the one they used to show that the explosive bands actually worked!

Good question about the Haunted Tank!  I actually meant to specify that but forgot.  Ideally, I'd like something that showed the Tank and some of the crew, maybe something like this:

Afghan Ant's Magma Man might work. You'd have to take the belt off and change the shorts, but he should do.

DM's Mindless Ones would also work if they were reskinned.

For the Fearsome Five members, how did you feel about the ones in the old Teen Titans mod?  I thought they were well done (but haven't looked at them in quite a while).  The mod also had some H.I.V.E. solders in their old purple suits.

And I'd also recommend Tommy's Pied Piper.  Original appearance look, with several instruments to choose from.

I thought you could use cyber's as generals and mine as grunts :)

Those are just beautiful Deanjo! Looking at mine now, I think I need to hang my head down in shame

Yours are truly fantastic, so vibrant. I'm seriously envious here. I'm re-doing mine to add a bit of variety, I think I'm going to need a real Skinner for them.

I originally did a Phobia on an old female_versatile (I believe it was), it was hexed or Skoped/updated by Detourne_Me (if I recall correctly) with my skin on a Grenadier mesh.  Phobia was later meshed and skinned again by ?, but I know it was done.

You guys are ridiculously awesome, you know that?  :D

I thought that I remembered Daglob having an epic quest to get a Plastic Woman/Madame Rouge, and that being a really big thing.  Glad to see my memory isn't entirely terrible!  I'll definitely be using that one!

Tommy's Piper is pretty cool!  Lots of fun animations.  Thanks DJ!

CB, I figured you probably had some HIVE cannon fodder laying around.  Nice ones!  I like the pistol one.  Ohh, CB, you had mentioned sending me your HF collection from  :ff: and  :ffvstr:.  I could definitely use them!  (By the way, I forgot about the DC Atlanteans you made.  I'm going to have to use them!)

DG, thanks for all the goodies!  The Wizard is looking fantastic, man, just fantastic!

Is it my imagination, or did Ren do a Johnny Quick?

PG, I will have to go back and look at them.  I haven't played that awesome mod in ages.

Dean, that is a lovely skin/skope!  With you and CB teaming up, I bet we'll see some great stuff!

Does anyone know where the Phobias CmdrK mentioned can be found?

Thanks guys!  DJ is inundating me with great suggestions for the mod, so get ready for more info requests soon!  :P

You're likely thinking of Fusion, who did some of his own CSA meshes around the time Renegade made his. Vertex is kinda the king of speedsters though, and I think C6 made a skin for his Golden Age Johnny Quick mesh.

Thanks guys!  I guess I was imagining the Johnny Quick (hero) by Ren, but I've now got the VX/69 one and some skins.

Love that heavy assault trooper, Dean!  So cool!

DJ, ha, you're probably right about doing half of them!  You did this!

Kenn has a Mr. Atom and Dr. Sivana at Freedom Fortress. I have Firefly, General Immortus, and Crazy Quilt all by Atomic Robot I believe (so while really neat, they are all quite old).

Different Firefly. This is the guy from Batman TAS I was thinking of as Firebug.

I think Tap43 did a beautiful Chemo.

DJ sent me a pile of stuff, which gave me Ink's Shiva and a Sivana.

Spyder, please send that Chemo my way.

Dean, I'd love to see that KGBeast?  Did you mean you had made a Rainbow Raider?  If so, I definitely want to see him.

DG, I thought I remembered seeing that Mr. Mind.  If you finish it, send him my way, and I'll see if I can fit him in.  :)

I'm fine with it, but Wyldefire did the worm scope, so he has a say in it. I did "Z" a minion of Sivana. He appeared in a story by Jack Kirby (Yes, that Jack Kirby). I think a lot of The monster Society of Evil has been done, and while not Sivana's minions, they could be used as such. Kenn just did Niatpac Levram, too.

Firestorm did a Rainbow Raider that's only 15 years old now.  He's also got a KGBeast.  Both are at Alex's.

Juancho did a Phobia skin for an Interceptor mesh for the TT mod (so you can look at that while you're there).  I want to say there was something for Trigon in there as well, but I don't recall if there was an actual mesh or just a talking head.

Jinx, Shimmer, and Phobia from the TT all look good, but like some of the rest of y'all, I know I've seen a more recent Phobia around.  If anyone has it, I'd be interested in taking a look at her.  It looks like SCD did one:

Howdy guys!  I'm trying to shake off the rust and get back to my mod, and a good place to start is the last massive group of characters that I hadn't included: The Legion of Superheroes!

So, I know Tommy has basically all of them, but what else is out there for them?  I want to review my options.  I'm basically interested in the classic Legion, but I haven't ruled anything out.

How about their villains?  The Fatal Five at least must be included.

Also, I know there was at least one Anti-Monitor at one point.  Anyone know where it is or if there were more?  I'm just beginning to toy with some massive, universe spanning finale, though that's probably not going to happen in this iteration.

John Jr had a few Legion of Superhero mods that basically had everything you need:

https://www.mediafire.com/folder/2455688dit53d/FRP2_Backups#eh32qo5dg129f

Greycount at Alex's FF also has tons of Legion skins:

http://www.alexff.com/skinmesh_gallery.php?creator=Greycount&category=%&logo=GC

And, as you know, there's already Tommyboy's massive collection.
Title: Re: Help Update the DCUG!

I know there is a Skin by Firestorm for the Anti-Monitor that goes on the "SuperCollider" Mesh, and then I believe that Tommyboy also has an "Anti-Monitor" Mesh at his site as well.

I had actually thought about updating the Character, still kind of tempted.

Courtnall6 should have a "Legion of Superheroes" Pack at Alex's site if I'm not mistaken.

Laughing Paradox, I believe has both, the Legion and the Fatal Five, floating around. I don't remember if it's at Force of Paradox, or at one of his Yahoo Groups though.

Ahh!  I had forgotten about JJ's mod!  Thanks Spyder, that's a great place to start.  I'm checking out Greycount's skins as well.

So, after an initial and certainly not exhaustive search, I have found a lot of great stuff and can narrow things down.  I'm interested in any skins of Tommy's meshes, if there are any about.  Specifically, I'm curious about what else is out there for:

CB ninja'd me while I was compiling my list.   Thanks man!  I've got Tommy's Anti-monitor.  I didn't see LP's Legion or Fatal Five pack, but I think that's what I've been thinking about.  I just went back and found them!  Excellent!

Alex's site is giving me trouble at the moment.  I imagine it will clear up in a while.

Thanks guys!

Kenn did a mesh for a guy called Recoil. He can change into a ball. I don't know if you could find someone to scope, maybe, Tomato's Male Fat to it. There is a Bouncing Boy at Alex's that puffs up; I think it might be by Kenn too.

I will look and see if I have any of the rest.

DG has sent me some great stuff (thanks man!), and I've got more bases covered.  I've got something that I like reasonably well for Star Boy, but I feel like there is yet more out there which I remember seeing.  I've got a Cosmic Boy that I'm pretty happy with too, but I also remember seeing other Purple versions of him somewhere.

Also, I've added Shrinking Violet to the list.  Has anyone done this version of her or something similar?: https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/marvel_dc/images/3/3a/Violet_001.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20060108160803

Ace*Frankly did a green Violet skin.  I've also got a Projectra skin by him as well.  I'm not sure where all of his things are now, but I can send them to you if you haven't already gotten it from one of those content hoarders.

I've got what I consider a good Star Boy skin from the skindex.  Not sure if DarkJared did it or not.

I was never partial to Element Lad's pink outfit.  Ace did the blue & green one, if you're interested.

Any thoughts of having Ferro Lad, ME Lad, Tyroc, and Chemical King in there somewhere?  Universo, Pulsar Stargrave, Time Trapper (not positive someone's done a skin/mesh for him)?
Title: Re: Help Update the DCUG!
Post by: BentonGrey on June 01, 2019, 03:04:30 PM
Howdy PG!  Yeah, send all of those my way, if you will.  I want to check them out.  :)

Absolutely!  I've already got Ferro Lad, ME Lad, Tyroc, and Chemical King on deck.  I've copied HFs from both John Jr's mod and Tommy's, and I'm comparing, expanding, and modifying them to fit the DCUG.  I've got pretty much all the classic Legion and their foes drawn from those mods.  I've only posted about the ones that I wanted more options on. ;)  I've got the Time Trapper too (Tommy really did amazing stuff for the Legion!), but I have to do a little research on the other two to make sure they'll fit in.  They're definitely possibilities, but I'm not crazy about what I've got for Universo.

A bit of quick research, and yes, I will definitely include Pulsar Stargrave, and Tommy has a nice mesh/skin for him, so he's set.

Haha, Pod, you jerk!  Just show up, tease me with the possibility of Legion skins by Podmark, only to snatch that hope away!   Ha!  I got really excited when I started reading your post, and really disappointed when I finished it.  :P  Seriously man, I hope that some of my antics with the DCUG might rekindle some of the skinning fire for you.  If you ever decide you want to do something, let me know, because I'd love to have more of your work in the mod!  I'm glad you're checking in, though!

There are several that I'd love to see you do...just saying.  ;)

Alright, at this point things are looking pretty good.  I've got some solid options with Star Boy.  John Jr. has agreed to tweak his Cosmic Boy skin to fit Tommy's mesh.  I've got some solid options for Element Lad.  I found a really nice option for Princess Projectra (though her classic costume is just plain ridiculous, isn't it?).  PG sent me some options as well, including a nice Shrinking Violet.  The only catch is putting that skin on a mesh compatible with tiny female keys or finding the original female_tiny mesh she is supposed to go on.

That just leaves Phantom Girl for the moment.  There are nice versions of her other costumes, but I just don't care for those looks.  I'm hoping someone has made that other version somewhere.

That was me, not paying attention to what I sent.  It was indeed made for longhair, and I changed the texture name for the tiny mesh.  But now you have the mesh, too, so problem solved.

I've never really found a Phantom Girl skin I was completely happy with.  I'm partial to her bell-bottom costume; Greycount made a skin of it for the heroine with tail2 mesh, but the keyframes don't feel right for her (like the idle grooming anim).

I don't have one called Female Tiny, but maybe it is Female Insect Alpha Tiny? I tried to make a Female Crymsin Shrink-Grow, but the pelvis did... weird things.
Title: Re: Help Update the DCUG!
Post by: Panther_Gunn on June 02, 2019, 03:48:56 PM
(looks at Greycount's section on Alex's site):  looks like he made another bell-bottom skin, looks like for Tommy's mesh.  Now I'll need to get those, too.  Oh, look, a dedicated Pulsar Stargrave mesh.....squirrel!

Edit:  now that I look closer at the female_tiny folder, it has no documentation or standard skin, and the nif & keyframes are the same size as for female_tiny_alpha.  That was probably split out by me, since I'm using the random skin method for Wasp, so I needed to take Violet out of that mix.  The alpha mesh was made by Halfscan, for when you need it for permissions & credits.

Thanks PG!  After looking at that mesh, I think I need something with more key options.  Would anyone be willing to put this on Tommy's S_VIolet_Tiny or something similar?

Or are there any female tiny keys that grow like the Atom's keys?

Also, weirdly, Tommy's TV giant keys aren't working with his Colossal Boy mesh.  I'm stumped by that.

Thanks for the attempt, DG!  We can probably just put different hair (or maybe the right hair is already there?) on Tommy's mesh, as the skin otherwise fits on that one, or there may be other shrinking/tiny keys that would make the original mesh viable for me.

Okay, I need some keys with a flying melee-esq anim that are compatible with Gren's warrior woman-type keys that are used in his Black Canary and such.  I need to give Triplicate Girl and Dream Girl flying melee attacks.  Anyone have any ideas?  I've tried a bunch of Gren's keys, but no luck.

So, I'm still looking for those compatible flying attack keys, but here's something else.  Any suggestions for meshes/skopes for Chameleon Boy's forms?  I want to give him three distinct forms to transform into.  I'm thinking, maybe a fast, agile form, a form with some type of ranged attack, and a strong, tough form.  I know there are limits on how much he can replicate a form's powers.  Any ideas?

How about a venasian warbeast, feared across the galaxy but luckily almost extinct, built for strength and destruction.

I wanted something alien and AA's Jedd Jarkus was perfect.
Will probably still tinker around with him.

Hey, so Tommy made some giant keys, are there any other giant keys floating around out there for male_basic or male_cape?
Title: Re: Help Update the DCUG!

For Male_Basic, I believe so. Valandar had some, maybe Gren as well. Just not sure that they are compatible with Tommy's Colossal Boy Mesh, at least not without some fidgeting. My problem is that CTool2 doesn't show the Giant Sized Meshes clearly, but I did just find my disk, so when I get home tonight, I can check these in-game and get a better perspective.

Yeah, I had the same problem, CB.  The new keys I sent you are a lot more visible, though.

Would anyone mind sending me those other giant keys?  I want to have those one way or the other.

I know I have Val's on my Laptop, but I'm not sure about Gren's. But I'll send you what I have tonight. I also have a few ideas in regards to Colossal Boy that I want to try out as well.

Title: Re: Help Update the DCUG!
Post by: BentonGrey on June 16, 2019, 03:29:00 AM
Okay, for Chameleon Boy, I'm going to use Val's Troglodyte for the agile form, and I've got Dean's awesome alien for the strong form.  What should I use for the other one?  I'm debating using a dragon of some sort, but since CB can't actually take on all the powers of a form, it would basically be just big and scary, but not all that dangerous, which would be kind of interesting.  Maybe he'd have Presence in that form and make people panic.  He could also have area attacks and such, but he wouldn't be as strong or as tough as the form seemed to indicate.

I could either do that or maybe a ranged form, if that is something he could do.  Any thoughts?

I like the idea of the Dragon. Maybe using a ranging panic attack, and a melee attack simulating piercing claw strikes.

Thanks CB, that sounds about right.

So, I'm almost done with the LSH characters.  I'll start testing them pretty soon and will then build them in, and I was thinking about what else I'm missing.  I remembered that there were several Green Lanterns that I had been meaning to add, so I thought I'd go ahead and start talking about them.

I've also considered adding the Sinestro Corps. in (in part).  They aren't part of the original conception of the DCUG, but I have always liked the idea of a rival power to the Lantern Corps., and despite how the rainbow Lanterns thing sort of jumped the shark (for me at least), the SC just felt like a perfect evolution of Sinestro and the concepts that surrounded him.  Would anyone be interested in seeing them in the mod?

I know someone (maybe multiple soneones) did a bunch of the Sinestro Corps. characters.  Anyone know where I can find those?

As for GL characters, I've got the Earth Lanterns and Kilowog, as well as Tomar-re, but I want to add more, actually create the feeling of a corps.  I want to limit it to classic-ish character, though I'm not going to be fanatical about that.  I'm looking for suggestions, as well as looking for materials for these guys:

NautkeLoi and Xax seem like possibilities, and maybe Ch'p.  I'll try and track down some stories with some of the other guys.  Thanks for the suggestions, PG!

Ahh, thanks Dean!  That's who made all the zillions of Lanterns!  Awesome!

SA has a ton of great stuff, but I feel like I have seen a Salaak who could conjure screens and other cool stuff during some animations.  Am I making that up?

So, I've got Ink's Katma Tui, and I've got SA's versions.  What else is out there for her?  Ohh, I've seen C6's from his GL packs as well.

Daglob, what was the name of the Freedom Force site with all of the GL Corps?  I feel like it was Emerald Dawn, but I didn't find it (quickly) in the living list posts.  Maybe there's something from there that hasn't been done elsewhere yet.

Edit:  nevermind, I found it, emeralddawn.com.  Last working snapshot was Oct 2011.  Skins mostly by Lord Malvolio.  I don't think there was anything there that hasn't been recreated (or BG doesn't have already).  The skins page doesn't look like it's changed since at least the snapshot I looked at in early '06.  Successfully downloaded the Arisia skin from the 2011 snapshot.

It was "Emerald Dawn", and it can only be found on The Wayback Machine:

With the Freedom Force stuff here:

I think there are newer versions of everything except maybe Goldface and Lamplighter. Have Sonar and The Invisible Destroyer been re-done?

Hey guys, I've got something weird going on.  I've got VX_Brainiac_5, and he works fine in game and in CTool.  However, he's a bit dark, as happens with  :ff: meshes occassionally, so I need to brighten his light values.  However, when I try to load him in Nifskope, it gives me an error message and won't load him properly.  Anyone willing to look at their copy and see if they can load him in Nifskope, maybe brighten him up for me?

:EDIT: Apparently it's a bunch of my VX meshes, including VX_Male, Tyroc, a Cosmic boy skope, and Lightning Lad.  Fortunately, I only need Brainy, Tyroc, and Lightning Lad brightened.
Title: Re: Help Update the DCUG!

I managed to solve the VX problem by doing the brightness fix on unconverted versions.  Beware of this in your own games!

So, on the GL front, things are looking great, and the Legion is mostly finished.  I am still struggling with Chameleon Boy, though.  I like the dragon idea, but it is a bit unwieldy.  I'm thinking about a form with burrowing powers.  So, other than the giant ants and The Ant himself, what is out there with burrowing keys?  Are there any monstrous/alien skins/skopes of The Ant himself?

Interesting suggestions!  I didn't see anything on SA's site that looked likely.  I have a Moleman monster that is a reskin of Clayface that MIGHT work.  Hmm....the other monsters that I have are just Val's Kaiju, which are too big and recognizable.

Maybe I'll just use the raptor.  Him having one Earth form isn't too bad.  I've just got to figure out its role.

Howdy guys!  I'm getting back to work on the DCUG, so watch this space for questions and requests if you're willing to help out!

First off, I'm toying with my options for Atlantean troops.  CB has some really lovely versions, but they're limited to the land because they aren't compatible with swimming keys.  I've also got Kssaints' really lovely swimming versions, but I'm looking at tweaking their keys to add some more options and flexibility.

Are there any male_basic compatible keys that have rifle anims, sword anims, or spear anims?  I feel certain that there are and that I'm just blanking because I'm rusty.  Can anyone refresh my memory?
Title: Re: Help Update the DCUG!
Post by: BentonGrey on February 22, 2020, 06:16:32 PM
Okay, I decided to stop being a goofball and think a bit more out of the box.  I realized I was going about this wrong.  I was thinking of entire sets of keys rather than individual anims from the various male_basic sets.  So, I've found a pretty good ranged anim that works as a 'rifle' anim.  Now I just need to find good options for the others.

:EDIT: I think I've got good stuff for my swimming Atlantean troops!  So, now I need something else.  Is anyone willing to try to track down a good, clean-ish image of an Atlantean soldier (N52 or newer) and an Atlantean officer type?  I need some images for portraits, and Google is failing me.  I'd rather not spend my modding time paging through my comics, and someone could save me that time if they're willing to help.  :)

Howdy gents!  Can anyone give me a simple Green Lantern flavored green texture for an FX or two?  I've decided what I'm going to with the various alien Lanterns I'm adding is to give them the standard suite of powers and one or two unique, character-specific one apiece.  That way they'll have a little flavor without me having to reinvent the wheel each time.  For example, Medphyll, the plant guy, will get a green 'tree throw' projectile, while the aquatic lantern will get a green whirlpool.

Also, am I imagining this, or was there a nice, 3D tree-throw FX somewhere?  I found a 2D one, but I swear I remember a 3D one someplace.

Is there something that could be used for a tentacles/vines effect on the ground for a stasis attack from Medphyll?  I feel like there's something that can be used (purple darkman, green bachite, or maybe the traps from the Pan episodes?), but I haven't looked at things in a while.

Howdy PG, thanks for the response!  Yeah, there's actually Eve's Entangling Vines direct.  He's got an 'Emerald Cage' crystalize swap power like the other GLs, but I have been thinking about something like that.  The FX seems like a natural fit, but I'm not sure what to do with it yet.  Maybe I should just turn it into the end nif for his emerald cage...

Ohh, has anyone skoped Kilowog to summon green melee weapons for attacks?  That seems like the kind of thing that might exist.

Thanks SA!  That sounds like it might have some potential.  I would love to see some of the GLs skoped to pull up weapons during anims, but I am actually looking for 'loose' meshes.  I imagine that someone with more skoping know-how than me could take the weapons off of those meshes and put them into new files, but I'm afraid that's beyond me. :)

CB, if you've got some loose ones lying around, that would be perfect.  Or, if someone can tell me how to create a stand-alone mesh out of an object like that, I can do it myself if necessary.

Found it!  Sick Alice's work, and quite great!

I'm still looking for stand-alone bats, swords, and hammers.

If no one else gets it I haven't done that in awhile but do know how, just need to know what specific objects I'm working with. If it helps you can pretty much dig a comparable object out of the game and skope the weapon into it, like a light pole for example which most in game characters can already pick up and wield. I also thought of this and probably late but the ingame thug has a baseball bat as well.

Or for an alternative and maybe easier to skope scroll down and download the Polearms pack by Val.

I found a few Baseball Bats, and I should have plenty of swords and Hammers to choose from.

Do you want traditional Hammers, like the kind you would use with nails, or are you looking for more of a weapon type Hammer, like Harley Quinn would use?

As always, you guys are just freaking awesome.

I had completely forgotten about the old NPI weapon-pack, and it is EXACTLY what I was after (thanks SA!).  Everything is all nice and bounding-boxed and set up for me.  That covers the hammer (I was after a warhammer type thing for Kilowog, and this is perfect) and some various other weapons (I'll give each GL a different one!), and now I can use a sword and a baseball bat.  Thanks to SA reminding me that I can just copy an object from one mesh onto a stand-alone object mesh, like the streetlight, I should be able to create those on my own.  Sheesh, I should have thought of that!  Ha, I guess I'm rustier than I thought.

Ohh, CB, I remember those weapon packs you did.  Where are they now?  Have they vanished into the Yahoo Group void?

:EDIT: Well, I spoke too soon.  I cannot for the life of me get the darn baseball bat to line up with the streetlight properly.  Anyone willing to give this a shot for me?

I'll send you a PM with a Link for them. It will also include some (maybe a lot of) unreleased stuff.

You can send it my way, but I can't make any promises right now. Between work and school, I am drowning. But if I can squeeze it in, I'd be glad to give it a try.

Thanks CB!  What a fantastic set of resources!

Don't put yourself to any trouble, man.  I'll send it your way, but no worries if you can't get to it, my friend.

I figured it out!  I tried a different bat, and with some finagiling, I managed to get it to work.  Now Hal summons a giant baseball bat with which to whale on enemies!  PG has agreed to green-ify the textures, so I should be all set.  Thanks guys!

Alright guys, here's something different.  Apparently my computer somehow ate the python script that is necessary for the ghosting mesh fix.  Can anyone send it my way? It's the ffvt3rskinpartition.py file, I believe.  Weirdly, I have the exe, but not the py file.  I have no idea what could have happened to it.

Urg....so, I found that I had saved the install files, but I get errors when I try to install them.  I get notes saying that certain key values can't be created when installing the partition section.  This is getting quite frustrating.

So, I've tried reinstalling all the different stuff that comes with the fix.  The first two seem to go okay, (repairing Python itself as the first step) but when I get to pywin32-217.win32-py2.7, I get this error message at the end of it:

Quoteclose failed in file object destructor:
sys.excepthook is missing
lost sys.stderr

And when I try to run the script, it chokes right away.  Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?

Also, anyone willing to field some ghosting fixes for me in the meantime?  I've only got one at the moment, but I'm sure others will eventually show up.

Still no improvement on the ghosting fix, which is really annoying.

Anyway, I've got a new one for y'all.  Has anyone made a football player?  I'm thinking I might make a GL construct for Guy Gardner to summon, and that seems rather fitting....

Howdy guys, does anyone happen to know of any good laugher area FX?  I've got one for the Shadow, but I'm curious if any others exist.

:EDIT: Also, does anyone have a collection of Val's keyframes?  I need to tweak the Creeper, who's using Val's acrobat keys, but I'm not sure what all is compatible with them.

Oh boy, those creeper keys. I know I changed them for my Corpse character.
I think I just used some Grenadier keys or something? But this could be a totally wrong memory.

Have you tried just giving it a go and seeing what would happen?

EDIT: Or maybe I went the other way and spliced the Val acrobat keys into another set? Ha ha, I can't really recall, but if you have that mesh for some reason, the readme should say...

Thanks for replying, Unko!  Yeah, I managed to track down another set of Val's keys in my collection (they weren't labeled that way, so there was a lot of trial and error, ha!).  I used one of his martial artist sets, and I am pretty happy with the result.  It keeps the feel from the acrobat keys while adding more variety and options.  Now my Creeper is a whole lot more flexible and dangerous!

Alright regarding the laughter area Benton, it's a little complicated but it can be done.

1. Download the latest version of EZFX here http://www.alexff.com/goodies.php (http://www.alexff.com/goodies.php)
2. There is a projectile named DOTP joker_gas_grenade. It's pretty much what you are looking for.
3. Turn it into an area attack. Basically take the end.nif rename it into a core.nif and put it into a new folder in the generic area called laughter_area or whatever you want.
4. Create the new fx via FFEdit.

You are pretty much done.

Howdy folks, I'm looking for a big monster!  Does anyone have any suggestions about what I could use for a big, menacing monster something akin to this?:
https://comicvine.gamespot.com/aquaman-56-the-creature-that-devoured-detroit/4000-11303/

That's obviously a fairly vague shape, and this creature could go a lot of different directions.  The basic idea is that it is something either created by an experiment gone wrong or awakened from the sea.  So, lots of options possible.  The obvious solution is to use one fo Val's kaiju, but I wouldn't want to use something so recognizable, at least without a new skin.  What do y'all think?
Title: Re: Help Update the DCUG!
Post by: UnkoMan on June 08, 2021, 04:26:47 PM
By the way, I had privately mentioned to him making a possible bigger version of the clayface mesh (probably with bits removed), and make even mapping that onto one of the huge mesh's keyframes.
I do not know the logistics of that, it was just an idle though. People more informed can say if that will never work!

As to a skin, if you could find a plain enough mesh, a temporary skin could easily be done. Throw a few textures on something, and bam. If necessary, I can do that for you.

Alternatively, if you get a different big monster I can try changing the original monster to match more.

Post by: BentonGrey on June 09, 2021, 03:35:42 AM
Thanks Unko!  After reflecting on it, I think what I'm going to do is use Chemo for the giant monster.  He's already in the mod, should prove an interesting antagonist, and opens up some story possibilities.

I think I may end up trying the Clayface idea for the regular Fire Trolls, which are apparently not in the mod yet, somehow.  I swear they were at one point in time....

https://gijoe.fandom.com/wiki/Bulletman

I'd never heard of him before I did a search on the Bulletman I knew of (DC) to make sure I was remembering the right name, and how he looked.

DC's helmet has been portrayed a couple different ways over the years; some are slim & pointed, some are closer to the Shining Knight.

Guardian has classically been shown as a rounded top as opposed to pointed (being originally a polo helmet), so that may not be the way to go (dependent of course on what skope-able pieces are available).  None of the listed DC options have the eye-holes already built-in; the Joe and Bullet ones do (but I think the latter is more rounded, and may not be adjustable in size/dimensions).

PG, ha, I had never heard of G.I. Joe's Bulletman!  I guess that's from before my time.  yeah, that helmet is pretty close.  Has anyone made him?

My take on DC's Bulletman's helmet comes from the meshes I've found.  They tend to be very pointed.

DC's Guardian isn't a perfect fit, but that might be the best I can find.

Okay guys, here's another new one:

I've got an awesome skinner offering to create a new Wonder Woman for the DCUG, but I need a skope.  There are a couple of great WW meshes out there, but I am looking for a version based on the New 52 look, which has an armored skirt instead of the usual bloomers.  I'm wondering, where can I find a piece/pieces to skope onto a mesh that could work for this?

Wow!  Dean, those guys look amazing!  Man, they are just fantastic!  The detail on both faces is amazing.  The lines and character in Deimos' face, the scarring on Murk's, it's all really impressive.  I also love the detail on the fabric of Deimos' tunic.  They're great!

On the WW skirt objects, it looks like Jack_of_hearts skirt could work as a base, but his loincloth is rectangular.  What I need is a piece that is pointed on the end.  Anyone got any suggestions?

:EDIT: Hrm.  I thought I had it with Tommy's Ozymandius, but his pointed loincloth, which would have been perfect, is part of his whole tunic!  :P

I hope this is okay to do, but I had an idea for a pie in the sky request.
If anybody wants to take it on...

I've been doing the fake comic covers for Benton's Aquaman mod. Involved! Turns out I had done a bunch of Atlantean soldiers for him, way back. They were a bit half assed though, and honestly, they are embarrassing to look at now.
I wondered if anybody would want to take a look at the old ones and spruce them up?
This will be a bit image heavy, so I'll do it in spoilers.

First up, average Atlantean soldiers.
Spoiler
Original Skins
(https://i.imgur.com/BOGYvGd.png)(https://i.imgur.com/NzwZgwK.png)

New Concept
(https://i.imgur.com/YX7OMCg.jpg)

A bit of an upgrade.
The lower "underwear" part is meant to just be standard fishscale throughout. The end should be fishscale, not a straight cut like that, just as the start under the redder bit is fishscale shaped.
I really disliked that huge blaster I used. Some kind of smaller, slimmer gun would look cool. Possible a harpoon gun? If a harpoon gun, could easily use a smaller version of the spear as the harpoon.
For the spear I pictured something a little ridged, and fishy. It's not a must, it just would be cool. The concept comes from the Atlantis Chronicles comic. Actually, that's the basis of the whole thing.
Shield with cool fish. Fish styled "A" symbol. Even that fish helmet, though I threw on a norse eye protector.
The gun guys have shields, too. Maybe smaller bucklers? Or maybe no shields is better, I dunno. The spear guys should have a larger shield though.
Of note! Their boots do have the standard "Aquaman fins" on the backs. The boot details don't make a difference though. Whatever looks cool.

Materials would be metals for the gold, and the fishscale blue. Maybe blue metal bits on the boots, over top of the other bits? The gloves and upper torso would be that comic book "whatever" material. I'd say... sharkskin? I dunno. Underwater leather.

Next, Atlantean generals.
Spoiler
Original Skin

New Concept
(https://i.imgur.com/IvfiZwO.jpg)

Following the same concept, this is made off the soldiers. Some colours are swapped but material places remain the same. The red shoulderpads and fishscale are metal. The gold is metal.
Thinking it would be cool to give him some kind of "fishbone" like short swords. Just realized the original skin has a single scabbard instead of two? Weird. Forgot a scabbard in the concept.
Actually, might be cool to have a short sword in the free hand and a dagger on the arm with the buckler?
Fish helmet might be the hardest, impossible part. I'm okay with ditching it and keeping the same helmet, but these guys should have some kind of full face covering.
You'll see why with the Piscator concept.

Piscator.

So Piscator ends up being those guys, but a gladiator. His blue should be darker. His "leather" straps, however, should be the same red. A callback to the other designs.
One shoulderpad is removed. The other is enlargened. Or replaced, if you think that's better, but enlarged is easier.
I would LOVE to give him a net in the dagger hand, and just add the dagger to his belt or something, but I don't think that is feasible. I don't know if there are nets. Putting the dagger on his belt and nothing in that hand is dope, too.
He has a trident. The middle end of the trident could be overlayed with the same object used for the sword or spear. A bit of fishbone.
His feet are bare. In the concept it's sandles, but I think just bare feet would make more sense for underwater people. His leg fin is flesh toned, and comes out between straps on his shinguards.
His fishscale underpants should also include a loincloth at least. Or it can look more "skirt" like. Or be one of those roman a bunch of straps of stuff skirt... Hmm, thinking now, a bunch of red leather straps around the sides to back would look cool, in addition to the fishscale skirt.
Anyhow, feel free to "barbarian" him up a bunch. He should use a slightly beefier body. You use a beefy body for Aquaman, right Benton? I'm sure the original body can just be exchanged for that one.

The biggest problem is, obviously, the helmet. Basically it should be a full face covering gladiator style helmet... However, if it ends up being the same as the general's helmet, that's fine. Whatever is cool and EASY. Don't want to strain anybody.
But a gladiator style helmet of some time is best.

Finally we have Xebel soldiers.

EDIT
(https://i.imgur.com/TT7fnpC.jpg)

Sorry, I should have done the concept off the same image, but I did these guys first, ha ha.
Anyhow they can come from the same dude. They have metal bracers instead of gloves, and all their metal should look a little dinged up/old, if possible. They should look a bit more slap-dash. Their spears are wooden poles with metal ends tied on.
Actually, this concept pic isn't great, looking at it, because it doesn't show the helmet. There should be a small crest. Well, I will post the "cover" after this and that will have the crest on the helmet.

EDIT: So, I redid the concept, and now it's more along the lines of the others. In fact, you could even use the same ring/straps that are skinned on Piscator on these guys. They have some leather straps under bracers. Those can look like literally anything. The helmets are more simplified than the Atlanteans, and show full face. The pants can retain the boots from the Atlanteans, just in the same colour as the legs, OR they can be straight up legs. Whatver. It's got a bit of that "black but with huge amount of highlights" comic book thing going on.

IF they have shields (should they?) they would need a different picture on it.

So, here's the fake comic cover in question:

There's actually one other character who can be built off the same template, and I just realized I didn't do a concept for him, but I should! So I'll go do that now. He'd be a combo of things from the Xebels and Piscator.
I'll whip up a Xebel concept that matches the others, too.

It's a BIG request, so I understand if nobody is interested. I'd try it myself but it's been so long and I've forgotten how to scope. I also... don't even have FF installed anywhere, ha ha, though I think by the end I had started previewing skins directly in the skoping tool. Nifskope? I can't even remember the name.
Ha ha, okay, thanks for indulging the long post. I'll edit it once the other concepts are made. Take care.

Wow Unko, what amazing design work!  I love what you've come up with, and I hope someone will help bring these designs to life for us.

I've got a few thoughts on these, but in general, I really like each of them.  Two overall thoughts before I get into specific notes and comments:  First, I'd prefer each of the soldier/officer designs to have pants of some sort, as the bare-legged look doesn't fit the aesthetic of the other Atlantean characters in the mod, like Ocean Master, Vulko, and of course, Aquaman and Aqualad.  Second, if anyone tackles them, I'd need the skopes built off of male_basic key compatible meshes so that I can keep the custom swimming keys I've got (I've put a LOT of work into them) and adapt the character builds more easily.  I've got the original Atlantean skopes if anyone wants to work from them.  I'd need two versions of the Atlantean soldier and general, one for underwater, the other for on land, with a bubble helmet.  The mod features them underwater and invading the surface world.  I'm currently using CB's Atlantean skopes, with Unko's skins, as my land versions of the troops, and I can provide those as well.

I love the aquatic elements of the design!  The helmet in particular looks cool.  Maybe armored sleeves, for a scale-mail shirt under the tunic?  As for the guns, while speargun-type weapons would make sense, I'm going with the hi-tech version of Atlantis, so they've got energy rifles of some description.  That'll be a plot point in the mod when the Scavenger shows up and starts dealing in Atlantean weaponry, like in the N52 Aqua run.

Lots of cool elements here.  SA made a version of He-Man's Merman, who I think has a sword like that, which could work.  I like the helmet design, but yeah, that might be tough to match.

Man, I love the two helmet designs on the bottom guys!  Lots of really neat elements here too.  So, this one departs pretty far from the design you made, which I already quite liked, but the change is really intriguing.  My concept for Piscator is that he's a former Atlantean soldier exiled for his crimes and having taken service with surface villains.  That could work with the gladiator design, but having some elements that hearken back to the soldiers would make design sense.  In terms of weaponry, I don't believe a net would work without a new mesh with new animations, but if he's got an empty hand, it would be an easy thing to give him a net ranged attack using the net FX.  I think I like the trident for the dominant weapon.  This design makes me want to do a mission with a savage tribe living on the seafloor, with the Aqua-team forced to fight in a gladiatorial match...haha, but I've got too much to do already!  Stop giving me cool ideas!  :D

I think this design is pretty excellent and have little to add, but let me say this for the record: I love JJ's original skin/skope and am not trying to replace it.  I don't want folks to think I'm ungrateful.  However, if someone wants to tackle Unko's design, I'll use them too.  :)  One thought about the design, my concept of Xebel is a bit different than the N52 version.  The comic version is former Atlantean prison colony, a culture that survives by scavenging ship wrecks.  Mine is instead a former colony that rebelled and was cut off from the main dimension because of that, so they wouldn't necessarily be as ragged or 'scrap' themed as the comic Xebellians.  This doesn't affect the design much, expect perhaps in the dullness/wear of the metal.

Good design here too.  I think maybe I'd like the addition of a helmet?  His comic design always seemed lacking in that area.  Now, while I've got assets already for everything else, I do need Nereus specifically to be made.  I don't have him yet, and he features in the campaign.  I'd welcome seeing any of these made, but I'll add an official DCUG request for Nereus.

I love that cover!  It's fantastic!  Y'all, I can't wait to show off all the amazing work Unko is doing for the mod!  As I preview new missions, I'll be previewing his covers too.

No pressure at all, Unko, but if you're interested in tackling any of these, I'm happy to offer what limited help I can in getting you back up to speed on skoping.  And yes, Nifskope is the program.

Either way, I do hope that these will get made, as they are awesome designs, and I'd love to be able to feature them in the mod!

I just figured, since I was already doing this... Plus, I am genuinely embarrassed by my old designs, ha ha ha.

As for the laser cannon... how about it if was just a thinner gun than that huge blaster? I dunno, I just don't feel like it fits.
But again, whatever happens happens. I'm not married to anything.

Hmm, I don't have that one.  Interesting!

Hey guys, here's a new one that I really need some help with.  I need a fairly simple skin for a vehicle/prop for several Aquaman missions, specifically, the trademark ship of his nemesis, Black Manta.  RD has gotten me a nice object to serve as the basis of the Manta Sub, and I've skoped it a bit, but I need a simple-ish black, tech-y looking skin for it, with maybe a window design on the front of it.  Anyone willing to help me out?

Hey, has anyone ever created a rally FX for DC's Atlantis?

I've skoped a simple tweak of the regular rallly FX which I think will work, if anyone will make me a texture of an Atlantean banner.

And here's another one, guys.  I am looking for some type of object that can serve me as an ancient Atlantean portal.  Preferably, this is something I can slap a rocky texture on and which will look vaguely portal-ish.  I'm looking for something I can make vaguely like this:

Hey Dean

Still having issues with PM for some reason.

The manta man as it is causes a python error in Blender and won't load. I'll try to isolate the wings out as a separate nif in nifskope and see if that works.

In the meantime, not sure what your base for the wings was, but here's a few other characters that have "underwings" that you might want to check - most have multiple nifs done by various people, and I already found a few on Alex and Tommyboy's sites.

Black Bolt, Scrull Black Bolt and Black Condor. Maybe Batman Beyond.

Man, Dean, I open the thread and find a hoard of riches!  First off, I do have a Vulko, but that version is lovely too, with really nice detail on the face!

Second, that Nereus is just gorgeous looking.  Great work on him, and yes indeed, I did request him.  In fact, he's just about the last piece I need for my Aquaman campaign, so that's a big one for me.  Your version improves on his comic look nicely for my purposes.

Finally those Trench look great, and you've given them a really interesting design!  They feel nicely alien and menacing.

Hey guys, does anyone know if there exists or if there is any way to make a male_teen version of the swimming keys?  I just discovered that the existing ones distort the teen mesh, which throws a monkeywrench into my plans.

Depending on what you're doing no easy way, but there are a few options. Depending on what you have on the skin side, you can either move the skin to my teen mesh and futz with its proportions to make it more like the teen_14 or billy batson mesh, or try to warp the teen 14 to fit on a mb biped.

Gimmie a little time. Someplace I picked up a "Sidekick Pack", but haven't really checked out the meshes yet.

'Mato, I was going to use the C6 Aqualad skin because it was designed for that younger mesh, but I could use your teen skin easily enough with some different proportions, if that would work.  The idea was that we'd meet Garth at first when he was a kid, then see him older as a fully fledged Aqualad.

DG, cool, let me know if you come up with anything!

Check this out:

https://www.mediafire.com/file/cndc00pa0m9amoz/male_basic_sidekick.zip/file

It was created by Extor Prime. I didn't do  lot of testing on it. I think I have Male Belt and Male Cape versions, also. Supposed to be the equivalent of, say, an 18 year old.

Post by: BentonGrey on July 07, 2021, 05:42:03 AM
Thanks for sharing that with me, DG!  Unfortunately, I don't think that one will work.  I was looking for something around the proportions of male_teen, which is supposed to be a young teenager, like around 12 or 14.  In general, I'd like to capture this kind of look for Aqualad:
https://comicvine.gamespot.com/aquaman-8-the-plot-to-steal-the-seas/4000-6395/
My thought was to try to tell the story of his being adopted at a point where it would seem necessary and where the father/son bond could make the most sense.  But if I can't do that, no worries.  I'll just intro Garth a little older.

Hey guys, I've got a weird issue, and I need some help with it.  The FFX walker mesh, which I use for various GL constructs, is showing up with a pink tinge to its skin, like it's missing a texture or something, but it has everything it is supposed to.  I can't figure it out.  Can anyone take a look at it for me?

DDS, so it's not the TGA exhaustion.  I've tried adding a lightmap and renaming textures, but no luck.

you might be able to scour the character.nif file in all of the mesh bits that are glowing pink and see if there's something missing.

If you want, you can send it to me and I can try taking a look.

I've gone over it, but I can't see anything.  It's definitely not individual parts, more like highlights or something.  Thanks man, I'll do that!  Maybe you'll have better luck than I did.

HP sorted me out.  It was missing a lightmap, and my replacement was named incorrectly.

Benton - for the male_teen problem, I just tried this and it seemed to work.... I took a male_basic based Aquaman mesh with swimming kf's, in this case Aquaman GA by KennX, and opened it in nifskope. I clicked on the 'handle' on the left to select it and then right clicked on it to open up a menu. Select 'transform' then 'edit' and then change the scale at the bottom of the popup window. I changed it to about 70% but choose whatever looks good to you, and click accept. Go back to the transform menu and click 'accept' and then save the mesh. When I checked it in the character tool, a smaller version was there and appeared to animated correctly. Since its male_basic based like the teen meshes, the Aqualad skins worked fine.

On the flag, not seeing much I can do. I did see that one of the nif's included has its own light sources - not sure if this was on purpose to help light it up or something added and not needed.

Oh - completed refixing the Manta Ship. That is an awesome skin for it! With the manta men, Tusky, Storm and Imp, and maybe Topo, this is going to be great. Too bad about not finding Qwsp though.

Thanks for looking into this stuff, RD!

I can just shrink 'Mato's Aqualad, and that will probably do the job.  I just liked how 'kid-like' the teen mesh looked, but as you say, I've got an embarrassment of riches!

Flag: Hmm, could the light source be the culprit?  And I sent you two?

Yeah, the community has really rallied around me for this campaign.  It's pretty amazing that a lot of my long-shot dreams are coming true!

Benton, The banner directory came with 3 nifs - shadow_banner_01, shadow_banner_01_base, and shadow_banner_01_fragments. The base nif has 2 directional lights set at "max-directional light" and a third ambient light. It uses a 'shadow banner damaged' skin.

I assume the fragment nif is for when its destroyed. For the other 2, I assume they work together on the map but I have no idea really.

Right, the different states of the banner.  Well, then that can't be it, because it's the regular version that is so dark.  I haven't checked the other one.

Benton,

Couldn't get the portal to work correctly, but I found this one....https://www.cgtrader.com/free-3d-models/architectural/decoration/old-stone-portal (https://www.cgtrader.com/free-3d-models/architectural/decoration/old-stone-portal) and it converted with no problems. the center swirl and the plants are different materials of the nif so they can be deleted if not wanted. There are no skins with it as all colors are materials of the mesh.

Done and ready to send when I get a couple more units to go with it.

And here's another one; does anyone know what keys Magmaman_AA takes?  It's got a male_heavy based body, according to the skin, but I can't figure out compatible keys, and I need to tweak them a bit.

Howdy folks, would anyone be willing to make some DC-centric versions of the FF character billboards from the game?  There are three textures I'd like to replace for general atmosphere.  We could have a Superman one, obviously, and the other two could just be generic, or they could feature WW or somebody else high-profile and public.  This should be super, super simple.  Even I could probably do it, ha, but I'd love to have someone field this for me while I'm working on my campaign.  :)

:EDIT: I also need a couple of the German buildings given slightly altered skins.  I think this would just be a matter of making their paint colors brighter and more like New Orleans' French Quarter, but it's a bit too nuanced for me to accomplish.
SPY helped me out with the buildings!

So, heads up... I got hit by a car a little bit ago!
That's why I haven't been replying lately, or getting covers done.
I saw your post with Atlantean art, and was going to mention I'd like to put skinned frames around it.

Billboards I really love! I actually added more billboard objects in my maps.

Unfortunately I've still got like 5 weeks until my hand heals, so if anybody else ismaking stuff before that go for it.

I will definitely whip up a few billboards after I am healed up though!

Billboards sound pretty easy, and I like doing stuff like that.  Are they set static in the missions/danger room, or can they be set to random?  I like being able to have a little more variety.

If someone can give me a quick idea of what it takes to make one, I'm sure I can find something.

Benton -- were you thinking of something like billboards that are in comics, or making one custom?

Howdy PG, great!  SPY has volunteered to help with this too.  Perhaps the two of y'all could join forces?

The main :ffvstr: billboards are static, but as I understand it there are some animated ones too.  I don't know much about them.  There are 4 FF team member ones that need replacing, but there are more general ones too that can be replaced.  SPY and I came up with these ideas for the main four:
Title: Re: Help Update the DCUG!

Some more options if you can have more than 4 could be:
S.T.A.R Labs.
Luthor for president.
Ace chemicals.

Post by: BentonGrey on July 25, 2021, 01:59:16 PM
Luthor for president!  Ha, oh man, that would be cool!  Good ideas, Dean!

And yeah, there are a bunch of billboards that can be replaced, it's just only 4 that need to be replaced to remove the FF members.

Ragdoll - nothing found released in my collection. Searching the site, KSSaints was working on one a long time ago, as well as Ghazkul. Found a mention that either Copper Age of Kenn X had done one, as well as a hex by detourne_me/ Tap43 (you might have that already from reading the thread)

The Monocle - KennX has one up on Alex's site.

Airwave  - some skins and meshs, but nothing I could find with the mesh change. Maybe a body swap in scripting with a KO to another mesh?

I didn't see any Ragdoll in any of those creators' Yahoo groups from the download (granted, I wasn't a member of all of the groups, like daglob was).  I also don't see it at Alex's (that search function he added is a godsend).  I *feel* like I remember seeing one at one point, and I would have thought Copper Age would have been the go-to for that, but it wasn't there unless it was named something else.

If only there was some sedentary booze hound that could be prodded into creating one ....

I have some old men floating around, Vulture I think and that was a recycle of a tick character named The Destroyer. They're lanky bodies if I recall right. Not unreasonable to think there's some buried in my Lantern Corps either, I made a ton of body types there. I was moving at a very fast pace though and didn't commit much to memory. That's a fairly easy job otherwise, you can do it right in Blender without weighting and such. The armpits are the only struggle otherwise you just scaling.

Edit: Hazy week for me sorry, if you can give me some reference on the body and character I can probably just as well make it. This area is a strong suit for me.

So guys, I'm getting back to work, and I'm picking up with my LSH mini-campaign.  I'm working on a new map for the future setting, and I'm adapting some of Tommy's work from his awesome mod.  I want to use the Legion clubhouse mesh he created, but I'm wondering if anyone is willing to tweak the skin a bit for me.

On a partially related note, does anyone have a map-pack updated copy of HumanTon's Midtown map?  Weirdly, the copy in my download of the Mappack seems to be blank.

And here's an odd one: can anyone give me just a blank, alphaed texture?  Something that would be transparent and have nothing on it?

I might have an older version, before they were collected into the map-pack.  The date on my zip for that is 22 Mar '03.  The readme does say it's a beta, missing finer touches such as sounds.

Here's another one.  Does anyone have (or would anyone be willing to make) an FF car or the like with a generic 'future-y' looking dude driving it?  I want some traffic in the 30th century.  I know there are various versions of the FF car with pilots, and if there is one with a male_basic driver, I'm sure I can find something suitably future-y.

So, here's another one, and this one may not be practical.  I'm looking for things to make my 30th Century map pop, things to make it feel special.  I think I've got a lot of cool features, but I was thinking about a central feature in a little park area flanked by big statues.  I thought a fountain would be a cool point of interest, but the vanilla fountains all felt too insignificant and parochial in this context.  So, here's my idea.  What about a fountain of light?  Would it be possible to add particle emitters to one of the fountain objects, like those on a Wonderman or Human Torch mesh?  Something that shots out a bunch of sparks or the like?  Would anyone be willing to do that for me?  Is that possible?

:EDIT: Yet another one.  I've got a nice science police mesh from Tommyboy, but the gun isn't showing up, and it isn't hidden on the mesh.  I think maybe it's alphaed out, but I have no idea how to fix it.  Anyone willing to take a look at the skope/skin for me?

Hello CP, I'm afraid I have no plans to add Wildstorm.  However, the purpose of the DCUG was always to add as a springboard for others to make their own content, so feel free to add those characters you've been working on and even release your own expansion once I'm done!

Thanks, Dean!

So, here's another one: I've got an awesome Cosmic Boy skope that John Jr. made for me, but the mesh needs brightening up for FF2.  Unfortunately, there's something wrong with the skope when I open it in Nifskope.  Most of the body, other than the hips and thighs, doesn't load, leaving only a skeleton.  And I get this error message:
Quote"failed to load block number 256 (NiSkinPartition) previous block was NiSkinData"
"failed to load nif from 'C:/Program Files (x86)/Steam/steamapps/common/Freedom Force vs. the 3rd Reich/Custom/Art/library/characters/vxCosmic_Boy-skope/character.nif'"
Oddly, the mesh works great in game and in CTool.  I'm not sure what to do with this, but I clearly can't brighten it up this way.

This is the problem.

I have had this issue several times trying to open some meshes in nifskope. I suspect it has to do with the fact that they are meshes that have come from a 3d editing program like blender or studiomax.

I still have not been able to know how to fix this problem, so I join your request. I only know that it has to do with "NiSkinPartition", which seems to be a way to fix some pieces to the main skeleton of the mesh.

Would you happen to know where x-dud's sentinel mesh is?
